You brought back some memories with the remark about a NINE BOB BIT Mike. We always had traveling lads come to my yard. One day a local traveling lad came in with his mate to pay for some parts. One of my lads said to me: watch out that he doesn't pay you in nine bob notes, so my son said, don't worry my dad has a load of three bob notes in change. Thanks for that Mike. OH! and for filling in the gaps of my knowledge of the power steering box. Once again an in depth tutorial video. Many thanks, Yorkshire Rob.
Thanks Rob! Seems as if I am attracting some thin skins to this channel who are offend by something's I say, so I may have to stop comments here and only have comments on Utreon
Yes that's the way things are going Mike, but like you, me being a Yorkshire lad I do tend to say things in a direct manner and a lot of people cant face up to that, so why don't they just stay away ( eef off ) and stay in their own comfort zone instead of telling others what they can, or can not say..@@BritannicaRestorations
It is certainly not the same world I grew up in, so much political correctness - bonkers!
Great explanations here... facinating vid... i would love such a workshop!! Just to visit.... so much to learn... thanks again..
Any time!

Thank you, I will!
The worm that turns... wasn't that a Two Ronnies Sketch :)
I believe it was!
I did this top seal on a discover 1 in situ, take the circling out fit the hydraulic pipes back on to the box and fire it up, turn the steering and the seal will shoot out easy
Excellent vidéo Master 👍
Thanks 👍
Excellent information! Thanks, Mike.
Glad it was helpful!
....very interesting video Mike, it's nice to know how these are supposed to work!......and I love the cliff-hanger at the end :)
Glad you enjoyed it Paul - more to come!
Another excellent video Mike. Thanks mate. Keith.
Glad you enjoyed it
Since I've been watching you on RUclips I have learnt a lot I used to do things a different way but can you use ep90 in it axles and gearbox and transfer box😁👍
All but the gearbox
Great vid ,herd talk about a tool to get the arm off called a bushwacker do you have a picture of it , I have a testing machine a genuine landrover one it weighs nearly 2 tons 😅
Wasn't the bushwhacker for getting the rubber bushes out?
@@BritannicaRestorations I might be getting them mixed but there was a powerful tool which actually worked to get them arms off
Not sure of the seal dimensions or actual part number, however Ive used double lipped viton seals as replacements. Got them from Orings and more. Never had a leak after that
Might have a go at mine now, slight weep but theres a god awful cracking noise at full right lock. Doesnt always happen ,checked ball joints on both the hub and steering only thing left is the box
Could be a bearing in the steering box
Mike. "Your terrible Muriel" from Malawi, as we think the new owner needs to go for reach budget vs safe budget (+25%) ? Re-built my project power steering box, so what do you expect after +25 years. No more charity cases Mr. Jamieson ! V.
Can you change the bottom seal above the steering drop arm without taking out the whole box out?
Hello... is there any chance that a land rover intended Adwest block could be fitted in my DAF 400? I have an Adwest assisted steering block but badly leaking... i am in france ..this Daf has a Peugeot engine.. and of course drives on the other side! So any ideas (such as a kit of seals , are they available? )
Send me some pictures = britrest@britrest.com
Hello Mike! question..the nut on top with the gasket if I change it needs adjustment? thank you
If you mean the nut right in the middle of the square top then, no if you do not turn the threaded adjuster
Just pay attention to the nut - the original nut has a built-in seal on the bottom, but the crappy aftermarket kits use a regular nyloc nut - no good at all!
thanks to you mike I have the freudenberg nut;)
hello mike sorry if I insist .. can you tell me the pitch in inches of the nut the big one? then I adjusted the clearance which is now non-existent from the nut on the ring nut. to adjust the steering weight, on the other hand, do I have to act on the large screw? thanks
I bought a 4 bolt Pas box and fitted seals as you are it leaks at bottom but just it will do as now I have power steering looking for a better box at good orice
Might be a scored shaft
@@BritannicaRestorations
Hi will find a second hand 1
Yours will be a nice motor after all that
This is why I rebuild my own and they are pretty sketchy at best - you will see on part 4, I made a rig to test these for backlash and leaks
just to be clear - the owner is Now restricting the budget and said to forgo replacing the old power steering hose ? or forgo replacing the power steering pump ? if the hose that would seem a pound foolish don't you think ?
I have already bought the hoses and other parts, but other jobs they wanted to be done are now on the back burner
@@BritannicaRestorations Yes these can be an endless cup of tea
OK 😁👍
Ok 👌

If the only difference between the Britpart and German kit is the top nut, can't you just get JP to bung the nut in his lathe and machine an o-ring groove into the lower face of it, so a suitable o-ring can be fitted?
Granted, it's a bit of a faff for a single repair but you could get half a dozen nuts done at once and then use them with Britpart kits when required.
I think just get a seal kit STC2847G - you are then guaranteed all the rest is correct
I forgot to mention this part 11011L - a Nylon tipped grub screw
Regular grub screw in the BP kit

Not the cheapest part!
Left it on a cliff hanger 😉
