First off, I've been a fan of Gambit almost since Uncanny X-Men 266, and yes, I got 266 when it was first put on the stand as a new issue. I think a few months afterwards and he was in the stories more is when I fully appreciated his character. Seeing him on X-Men TAS really put him over for me as it had for others. So there is that. So in those early years of the character, he and Wolverine were my faves, and so much so that I'd study his character as he developed. When they released his limited series, I snatched those off the shelf as quick as I could just to learn more of his character and history. So, big time fan of the Ragin' Cajin! Secondly, since I had studied his character so thoroughly, I would role play as Gambit in text chat rooms. Every detail about him was put into description, every tool and ability mentioned in the comics, put into the stories. Even his accent, I used to the best of my ability, although I did leave out speaking in 3rd person because I find that irritating, as it did for others. Later, I role played Gambit in a 3D environment, that required making everything from costumes to weapons, and even "functional" glowing throwing cards. People said I was probably the best Gambit role player they had played with because of my in depth, almost scholarly knowledge of Remy LeBeau. I certainly tried my best anyway. With all that said, I think Channing Tatum did absolutely amazingly with the role, but not without some minor critiques. When it comes to the accent, while true to real world Cajun, he should slow it down a little bit. The only reason he should slow it down is mainly for cinematic clarity, and nothing else. I get that it is a mush mouth dialect, but you need to be clear for an audience for entertainment. I think Chris Potter's version in XM-TAS is about right, and if Chan can blend his accent with Chris Potter's vocal cadence, he'll hit a freaking home run with the accent. The eyes not being red iris' on black.... I mean, that is the look represented in the comics and cartoons, and I understand this is a cameo, but an important cameo, so yeah, at least when Gambit is using his powers, the eyes need those contact lens'. Maybe Channing can't wear contacts or wasn't offered them? Still, the red on black eyes is a trademark of the character. Doesn't really break the character, not entirely, but it is a thing that used to be brought up as a part of his lore. The next thing is the costume, which I think was 99% spot on! Gambit's costume is unique, and makes a statement, but really it's all practical to his trade. Hidden pockets on his thighs (where the purple spaced lines are), are a place he stores extra playing cards. His chest armor also functions as a cooling suit, which is kinda like the Stillsuits in Dune, but his movements pump fluid underneath the armor that can hide his body heat signature from things like IR cameras and sensors. The metal tube-like part that separates the collar from the rest of his chest armor and goes around his body also hides other tools, and can act as a small temporary air supply like a snorkel or similar to a SCUBA suit (more like a rebreather). Part of it also has ferrous fillings that can be used to mess up motion sensors when thrown (think ninja pocket sand). All the tools someone in the Thieves Guild would need to pull off a heist. I mean, he's pretty much James Bond of the Bayou! Lastly, his portrayal of his powers was a little off. The stock, off the shelf version of Gambit can't charge biological matter. Clothes, armor, weapons, and other non-organic things on a person can be charged though. I did love the sticky bomb aspect shown in the movie, where he just slid charged cards onto a person's attire till they exploded, he's done that in the comics. Also, the size of the object determines the time it takes to charge it, the energy expenditure for it, and the explosive size. That is why he prefers playing cards over everything else, because they are light, don't sap much energy, and are equivalent explosive power of a grenade. In the comics, he's used nuts and bolts when he was out of cards, and up to the size of a huge statue, which nearly killed him not just by the explosion, but from the energy it drained from him, which he barely got away. His collapsible bo staff can conduct the charge to a limited degree, but I don't recall him stabbing someone with it and conducting the charge through that, and it shouldn't have cut someone's foot off unless it was the version of his staff that had blades extending from it, which wasn't shown in the movie. As long as he holds it while charged, it wouldn't explode, but he can charge it and throw it like an explosive javelin if the need arises. He has a fairly wide assortment of abilities, which makes him kinda broken and a little overpowered really. The very nature of his ability to manipulate kinetic energy makes him mostly immune to telepathic probes, and if he held a charged card to the side of his head, even powerful telepaths like Xavier can't read his mind. His power makes him move faster, more agile, and with much less effort than everyone else too. Which is why Channing Tatum may want to slim down a little, since Gambit isn't a bulky guy, but also not a stick twig of a guy either. My overall impression of how Gambit was portrayed is it was really, really, really well done! Not perfect, and I can go on and on nitpicking the small details and all that could have made it all perfection of perfection, but really, I'm just glad we got a mostly comic accurate representation of a character that wasn't portrayed right in X-Men Origins by a guy that clearly loves the character. That just makes my day! Laissez les bons temps rouler!
Yeah, Gambit is really one of the best characters in the xmen and it sounds like you have really done your homework. Yes there are flaws with his portrayal and when/if he reappears it is likely he will train and slim down beforehand as this was, as you said, just a cameo. It is also likely his costume will change, which is natural for this. If he reappears his accent will change as it wont be used for comedy and it will be more understandable. It is a give and take with live action. But to see the ragin cajun on screen again, we are willing to forgive some things. We hope you enjoy his next appearance. Also fun fact, Edward and I met through a superhero role play group
He deserved the role. Ive never seen someone so passionate about playing a character, jist saw his interviews earlier and he really loves gambit that alone gets my vote for him to be gambit.
Regarding the age conversation, Wolverine is unique because the older Jackman gets the more he actually looks like a proper Logan. Regarding Gambit's family dynamics, I love the X-23 books where you have Daddy Wolverine to X-23 & Jubilee, X-23 & Vampire Jubilee as sisters/besties(although its the first comic relationship I actually shipped and wanted to become more), and Gambit became the Uncle to the girls which I think actually endeared him even more to Logan as I'd never seen them get along as well as they had in that series. If you're still here, thanks for reading my ramble.
Well, my father went and decided to name me jubilee so of course we’re X-Men fans and yes, I absolutely absolutely one. Channing Tatum back is gambit. I thought he was charming, funny, sexy, lethal all the things that gambit is supposed to be embodied perfectly.
You can tell he put in the work! I hope to see him in battle world, X-men movie and then a solo project, maybe a movie or limited series. And we need to see Rogue! I agree with you about casting her 30+. i believe she was a little younger than him in the comics & animated series.
Im from LaPlace louisiana and my god dat accent was good. I love it and understood what he was saying which made it funnier. I feel channing tatum was prefect for the role because his dad is from new orleans and he was in the mississippi louisiana area. But who ever rouge actress might be needs to be able to have that southern mississippi accent in my opinion
Who do you guys think would make a fitting Rogue to Channing’s Gambit? I liked Anna Paquin well enough, I especially dug how they depicted her power in action, but they did her dirty in each movie. Especially Last Stand
@@nerddoctors I’m told this is kind of an odd pick, but I think Deborah Ann Will could do it. If she darkened her hair, not even brown all the way, but like just a super dark red & then the white streak. Plus she can do a Southern accent from working on Tru Blood. Has some fight choreography experience. Only trouble is her playing Karen on Daredevil. We don’t want Matt & Remy coming to blows Bo staff vs Billy clubs!!
You can argue that Gambit even tho not specified, incorporates a lot of ninjutsu in his techniques.. his cards are shurikens essentially and he doesn’t live in the shadows like Batman but can definitely sneak around and has a lot of ninja like attributes
@1:02 He actually does have red eyes for all the people complaining he wasn’t comic accurate enough and didn’t have the red eyes. Although I will conceit that they should have been more pronounced.
Channing Tatum studied Louisiana “black” people to pull off the Cajun accent. I’ve said that discussing Jean Claude Van as gambit in the 90’s sounding like a Frenchman. Ryan Reynolds is Deadpool as Robert Downy is to Dr. Doom..Born to be Ironman..same as Hugh Jackman is Van Helsing as Glen Danzig is to Wolverine
U know.. I remember thinking there is absolutely no way they can ever get bigger than Endgame.. and then I just realized.. X-men.. gambit.. wolverine now.. all this other stuff frekaing BLADE... ALL OF THEM and all the others in a new avengers movie.. oh FUCKKKKKK it would be TOO BIG.. too BIG FOR ANY MOVIE.. IT WOULD HAVE TO BE LIKE 2 MOVIES. OR 3. EFF THISB RO.. OH GOD.. IM SO IN.
People forget years ago.. he was slimmer and ready to go. From his training video. Before fox got bought out.. he can easily slim down.. and they could cgi his eyes. This was probably last minute when ryan reached out to him to be in Deadpool 3. And production was ready to go.
Taylor kitsch did good job too as gambit i wish marvel bring him back as gambit but as villain who become follower for apocalypse and fight tatum gambit version cause both still good job i cant say tatum is best gambit and same with kitsch but we need wait mcu gambit
Having Kitsch be a villain is an interesting take. We aren't certain if we will see that. It is unlikely before Secret Wars. But who knows what the cards hold. Channing does need another appearance before he can be considered the "best" that is understandable.

Heath Ledgers Joker, Hugh Jackmans Wolverine, Channing Tatums Gamibt, Ryan Reynolds Deadpool are all prime examples of why comic book fans and nerds do not know what they are talking about and need to just shut up. Every time there is a casting for a character we hear the usual idiots complain they are the worst person possible for the role. I even remember some these same idiots saying Jared Leto will be a good (or some said ok) Joker lol I don't mind these idiots talking about the role after it has been played as they know the history, details, can compare and so can give a deeper incite. But they (not just you guys ALL idiots that do this) clearly have no vision or the ability to see talent or what the actor is capable of before it has happened. I often wonder if all the negative comments play any part in the executives delaying or being hesitant on a project. So lets all from now on keep our negative shit to ourselves and wait till the movie is out regarding future roles. I am not talking about this instance with talk of gambit as we have seen what he can do, and yes he will be awesome and i hope they make a movie or better more than one. Note: I have liked and subed this channel for your incites on things AFTER it has happened, I call you and any who say blah blah would be bad for a role before they have had a chance to play it idiots and non visionaries. So hope you can take take the good with the bad.
@@nerddoctors Sorry for the tough love, but i feel it needs to be said. All I really ask is try not to be negative of a persons ability to do a job until after you have seen them in the role, for we never know what hidden talents they may have. Channing Tatum as Gambit was 10x worst than Taylor Kitsch's version in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. On top of that, what worked in the comic books doesn't translate well in real life. So what's the problem with Channing? 1. He's too old. 2. The costume trying to be true to comics didn't sell well. 3. The mask. They could have done away with it and just left it to the hairstylist to create the same effect. 4. The shirt. Non-functional. 5. They even got the metal socks wrong. They should have been segmented. 6. Channing is too big. Gambit is slender. 7. I've never heard a cajun accent like that before. It's worst than Ben Affleck trying to speak like an Irish American in "The Town."
Taylor definitely had the coat.(Channing’s was better )And as far as purple goes, his button up under the coat was purple, but the lighting in his scenes were garbage. Been excited for Channing ever since I heard the casting back in the day. he’s definitely more muscular than he appears in the comics, but I’m willing to make an exception for that because of how much passion he brought his character just like Hugh not being 5 foot three. And Taylor I still love you, man waiting for covenant two still.

100% you cant train passion
Keke Palmer as Rogue would pair up so nicely with Channing's Gambit
Maybe, we would need some convincing
Xmen have such great relationships. Seeing Wolverine and Gambit in these parental mentor roles was great!
Channing and Wesley. 👌🏿
They really stole it
Well, my father went and decided to name me jubilee so of course we’re X-Men fans and yes, I absolutely absolutely one. Channing Tatum back is gambit. I thought he was charming, funny, sexy, lethal all the things that gambit is supposed to be embodied perfectly.
Haha well that is perfect! He did such a fantastic job.
Have any men tried the, “No wonder I saw fireworks after seeing you.” Pick up line yet? That’s low hanging fruit for an ice breaker.
🤣🤣
We need a stand alone Gambit movie with Channing Tatum
We really do
You can tell he put in the work! I hope to see him in battle world, X-men movie and then a solo project, maybe a movie or limited series. And we need to see Rogue! I agree with you about casting her 30+. i believe she was a little younger than him in the comics & animated series.
Things are looking good for him to return!
Yeah, that would fit very well
Who do you guys think would make a fitting Rogue to Channing’s Gambit? I liked Anna Paquin well enough, I especially dug how they depicted her power in action, but they did her dirty in each movie. Especially Last Stand
We have been thinking of Hassie Harrison
@@nerddoctors I’m told this is kind of an odd pick, but I think Deborah Ann Will could do it. If she darkened her hair, not even brown all the way, but like just a super dark red & then the white streak. Plus she can do a Southern accent from working on Tru Blood. Has some fight choreography experience. Only trouble is her playing Karen on Daredevil. We don’t want Matt & Remy coming to blows Bo staff vs Billy clubs!!
That would be an interesting pick. Maybe if she wasnt Karen Page
I think a gambit solo movie would be good. He's well liked and it could connect to another story arc.
Yeah it would be so much fun
after hearing that gambit Channing Tatum was in Deadpool Wolverine I was like I need to see this in theaters not later on at home on Disney +
Oh same with us! We are so glad that we did
Yes, he should definitely be back and do more Gambit!!! By the way, I watched the original cartoon From the 90s and read the comic books
He is currently in talks!
You can argue that Gambit even tho not specified, incorporates a lot of ninjutsu in his techniques.. his cards are shurikens essentially and he doesn’t live in the shadows like Batman but can definitely sneak around and has a lot of ninja like attributes
Yes, he is a thief and sticking to the shadows and sneaking around is pretty on par
@1:02 He actually does have red eyes for all the people complaining he wasn’t comic accurate enough and didn’t have the red eyes. Although I will conceit that they should have been more pronounced.
We went again and checked for it, his eyes glowed when using his powers. But otherwise they were brown.
He did so much work and it paid off
Indeed. I hope he stays in the gambit for a while & everyone after him will have to be better like Michael Kenton’s Batman
We think he will. Tatum did confirm recently that he is in talks to return
OH GOD.. IM SO IN.
They really can do something bigger than endgame. Xmen is huge with some great stories
People forget years ago.. he was slimmer and ready to go. From his training video. Before fox got bought out.. he can easily slim down.. and they could cgi his eyes. This was probably last minute when ryan reached out to him to be in Deadpool 3. And production was ready to go.
Exactly, he has the time to do it now. I mean if Hugh can work out to look like that, then tatum can slim down a little
Channing Tatum's accent work in this movie is second only to his work in 22 Jump Street
Haha, a man of many accents
@@nerddoctors "Jeff" was peak level
Haha it really was. His career took off after Jump Street
I’d stamp his Cajun card. Oh Oui Mon Ami!
Haha thank you!
GAMBIT WAS AWESOME……….but you can’t make everyone happy.
Very true
Damn .I really hope n wish mcu make a gambit movie❤
Fingers crossed
Channing Tatum is actually Cajun
He was born nearby, but he isnt cajun
C H A M B I T
Haha perfect
wolverine vs gambit is Canadian French vs American French
Haha kinda
Poker card is more easy to use...
They are compact, many, it is the perfect weapon for him
A 16min vid of asking such a simple answer and is have you seen Deadpool and cut the vid there
Sorry the video wasnt for you
Taylor kitsch did good job too as gambit i wish marvel bring him back as gambit but as villain who become follower for apocalypse and fight tatum gambit version cause both still good job i cant say tatum is best gambit and same with kitsch but we need wait mcu gambit
Having Kitsch be a villain is an interesting take. We aren't certain if we will see that. It is unlikely before Secret Wars. But who knows what the cards hold. Channing does need another appearance before he can be considered the "best" that is understandable.
Kitsch was not good as Gambit and didn’t even do anything to be good as Gambit.
@@Byronic19134 but he should be back bro in secret wars alot pepole like him as gambit i like both tatum and kitsh and kitsch should be back as gambit villain who work for apocalypse
Secret Wars could have soooo many people
yes perfect Gambit
more Gambit (channing tatum) and X-23 (Dafne Keen)
We think we will. We think we may see X-23 as the main wolverine in the MCU
@@nerddoctors wolverine (logan) (Hugh Jackman) retire from the title but still serve as a mentor for X-23 as the new wolverine
That or just give Hugh a break
@@nerddoctors yes
So….everybody just forgot Taylor Kitch…
No, we didnt forget him. We even talked about him a little bit. We just like Tatum more. Taylor got very unlucky and was mistreated ion that movie
@@nerddoctors good info. Damn shame. he seems to be snake bitten when projects come his way. Dude was outstanding as David Koresh in “Waco”…
Yeah, he is a great actor
Never even considered him "gambit". He was a mistake as a character completely. Such terrible interpretation.
@@shalotstage well, it was a “Origin” story, so…..they ALL looked different before they became X-Men…..
It’s really not purple it’s fuchsia, that dark pink
Fair enough, it also depends on the artist

Heath Ledgers Joker, Hugh Jackmans Wolverine, Channing Tatums Gamibt, Ryan Reynolds Deadpool are all prime examples of why comic book fans and nerds do not know what they are talking about and need to just shut up. Every time there is a casting for a character we hear the usual idiots complain they are the worst person possible for the role. I even remember some these same idiots saying Jared Leto will be a good (or some said ok) Joker lol
I don't mind these idiots talking about the role after it has been played as they know the history, details, can compare and so can give a deeper incite.
Haha thanks?
@@nerddoctors Sorry for the tough love, but i feel it needs to be said. Society need more people telling the emperors they have nothing on lol
You guy do give great incites and details and depth to comic book lore, a thing i am an utter idiot of... and for the record if I threw my hat into the ring and started to try to pick who could play what, then I too would be an idiot.
All I really ask is try not to be negative of a persons ability to do a job until after you have seen them in the role, for we never know what hidden talents they may have.
The same actor may play a crap iceman but then go on to be the greatest Bishop or Cyclops (or bad green lantern to great Deadpool lol) we just dont know till they try it.
Keep up the great work guys
Haha all good. Actors have surprised us all of the time
Exiles film set in battle world
Exactly!
@@nerddoctors strike while the irons hot. You could maybe even have rouge from fox X-men meet and fall in love with gambit should they actually perish in battle world it could almost be poetic for them to do so together.
They will figure it out
He need it, but nothing to do with the current mcu story, be like a venom movie which he runs alone n have nothing to do with Tom Holland spiderman..
Haha honestly
@@nerddoctors mcu gave too much character n they only focus on the cap, thor, iron man n hulk ...this time add on f4 n doctor doom, I don't think gambit fits in...give him his own movie n his own adventure
Yeah, we also dont need an xmen movie before secret wars
@@nerddoctors we need them to introduce mutants evolution before making a x movie n a standalone...a gambit movie is possible, but due to the mcu full schedule, it might end up after 2030..
We have had mutants in the MCU for years. They can do an xmen standalone movie now. It just doesnt make sense with secret wars
If there's no spandex, it isn't comic book accurate!
Haha fair
I love tatum. He was great but
Disney is allergic to money. I'll believe the rumors when they stop the M-she-U.
Let's see if anything happens at D23 tonight. They just brought back RDJ they are allergic to anything but money
@@nerddoctors
They keep saying they hear us but didnt they just green lit another season of she hulk? Why is there even a rumor of female only xmen? I love the women of xmen but i have no faith they can properly exicute that.
They took seto kaiba too seriously:
Screw the money! We have the messege!
Season 2 of She Hulk was canceled and the rumor of an all female xmen is clickbait and baseless
When are you guys going to stop pretending that the MCU isn't making billions of dollars? You just incessantly pretend that things you don't like aren't popular. I don't like the Nolan batman trilogy. It's objectively terrible, but I'm not pretending it didn't make money.
@@redrick8900
Lets say a movie cost 300 mil to make. You have to have a minimal of 300 mill in advertizing. To break even, lets just say a healthy 300 mil. That's 900 to truely break even bc wheres the money to make the nect movie? Sure they can barrow money but thays the whole reason why the M-she-U exist in the first place. So NO! They dont have billions laying around. Have you not been paying attention to the billions lost in buying franchizes, loosing money on making movies not for the public. Starwas is dead. Indiana jones is doa. Marvel seems to only make movies for those that dont care to see them. Disney itself makes non family friendly movies.
Ur welcome to liking thelater disney stuff. Im just saying disney need to make super heroes super heroes! Look how they slaughtered my girl she hulk! All i have to say about that is she is not she hulk. Her origin story itself is amazing. Instead, we got ...
Would you j/o gambit?
Who the hell is Channing taden lol
What?
We are sorry you didnt like it
I’m probably in the minority but I don’t like the comicbook accurate suits. They look ridiculous in the flesh lol
That is very fair. Some of them look really ridiculous.
Yes you certainly are in the minority. You want a guy who walks around throwing kinetically charged poker cards to dress normal?
Agreed. I actually prefer the 90s and 2000s idea of redesigning them for film while keeping traits of the comic design.
Yeah there are better costumes for gambit that are more realistic
Taylor definitely had the coat.(Channing’s was better )And as far as purple goes, his button up under the coat was purple, but the lighting in his scenes were garbage. Been excited for Channing ever since I heard the casting back in the day. he’s definitely more muscular than he appears in the comics, but I’m willing to make an exception for that because of how much passion he brought his character just like Hugh not being 5 foot three. And Taylor I still love you, man waiting for covenant two still.
Haha yeah, Taylor was done wrong. But he did make the most of it. The coat was close, but not what was wanted
@@nerddoctors agreed. It’s a shame. The studio, the director, and the script screwed really good actors out of what could have been great rolls in that film. The cast did the best with what they had though.
That movie had all of the makings to be good if they read a comic book
Tatum just doesn't sell it for me...sorry
All good, sorry he wasnt for you
no he isnt and no he wasnt. he was not a good gambit. its his name as an actor that carries his performance as gambit. but he was a hoorible choice to play gambit.
Channing Tatum was always a really bad fan cast. It only worked the movie poked fun at how bad of an actual casting he was.
Really? We did think he was a bad cast at first. But the movie definitely didnt poke fun at how bad he is.
@@nerddoctors most of his scenes revolved around Channings bad accent…. I think it’s been a running joke that Tatum can’t do accents, they made fun of that also in 21 jump street
It wasnt a bad accent though. That was very accurate. For future appearances he will have to tone it down so people can understand him. But that was accurate.
@@nerddoctors I’m sure I’m just being a hater. I can be salty at times
Haha all good
His Gambit was too bulky and too comedic. Gambit is suppose to be a little slimmer and he’s supposed to be the cool anti- hero type.
He will slim down for the next one. He didnt have time for this one
That costume was awful. I get it’s comic accurate but something’s just don’t translate
Yeah, it isnt realistic. The next appearance will be better.
I'm not feeling Tatum as Gambit. The fight scenes were cool. His dialogue and everything else was trash. It would be an absolute nightmare if Gambit gets a solo movie with Channing Tatum being the guy to play as him.
The accent will be toned down so people can understand him if he gets his own appearance.
Dude In 97 sounded better, I thought Tatum did good with the fight scenes but I think his face is too thick for the mask and he sounded too silly…especially his laugh after saying boom
Yeah, the accent while accurate can be hard to deal with. In Xmen 97 having it being easier to understand does help
There’s a pic out there someone made the headpiece little more on his face and red eyes it looked amazing
With another attempt I am sure the costume will be better
Yo!🎯.💥…….💨🤏🏼🥷🏻✌🏼Yo!
