Steve becoming the groups 'mom' is one of the best character arcs of the show. He went from a douchebag jock, to a mother hen trying to stop her hatchlings from jumping out of the nest and dying.
I think the most interesting part is that while Steve has massively grown as a person and we love him for it, he wasn't REALLY a douchebag jock in the first season. It's so weird - the show just showed us all of the common tropes a douchebag jock normally embodies, and we all said "yes". Second time watching the first season really challenges your memory of his character! He wasn't perfect, but he definitely wasn't actually as bad as we remember, which is super interesting.
