There absolutely are music exams in the US, and they are often a substantial focus (and sometimes source of grief 😅) for private teachers and their students. They are generally administered by state-specific music associations and follow similar level/grade structure and requirements to their European counterparts. RCM and ABRSM also have a presence in most of the country, so many students complete these exams and diplomas as well.
Whow you speak exactly like I teach. Yes there are so many avenues to music that require different skills & exams are only a fraction of them, but yep pushy parents do not understand that & think that exams are the be all & end all of music ( we know different🥴)
