- In this video, we show the setup of the enclosure before the rehousing (I've had some folks asks why I don't ever show that part). :)

I like watching enclosures being put together as well. She’s beautiful.
I have to start doing more of those. Most of the time, I do it before we start recording. Thanks!
making it rain is best asmr
Hahaha I should mic up the tank when I do that.
Kudus Tom! You and Davie' little beasties really are the go to guys in the hobby .
Thanks so much, Miguel!
@@TomsBigSpiders you know you're followed from across the big pond, surely!
Very educating and well done, all the time!
M
@@migueltonnies6856 I do, and I truly appreciate it! It means a lot that people trust my advice!
Agreed. I have learned a ton from these guys. I especially like Dave's style. I love that he goes out and collects all of his substrate, moss, and decor from nature.
The dark den is amazing too
It the send button by accident Tom, so apologies for the incomplete first message, I wanted to say that the colour on the carapace is stunning, fantastic job on the set up aswell Tom.
OH I love that pink on her carapace.
Isn't that pretty? :)
Had I more space I’d love one of these guys. Unfortunately I don’t, so I’m glad I have yours to look for now Tom! Some proper eye candy 🍭 😂
Totally get it, Christopher! Good on you for being responsible with how much space you have. Thank you!
My partner who's heard many of your podcast but never seen you on video, until today - "Tom has sleeves !?!" 😹
Hahahahaha I've gotten that a couple times now. haha That's awesome!
That carapace is sooo pretty! 🕷💞💞🕷
I love that color!
I like the idea of their final or adult eclosure to be nice and beautiful for your spider to be on display. And this video was a good example. Beautiful spider.
Hello! Yeah, I like to wait until they are adults to give them the super nice enclosures. At that point they shouldn't require a rehousing any time soon, so it's totally worth it. Thanks!
another T to add to the old wish list! Great video
Thank you, Dee!
I remember when Billie bought those for you. And I remember checking out the price...and gasped! 😆
I still want on though.
There's a Repticon convention in Greenville SC next weekend and I think I'm going to go and find me some "tax season" T's. As well as a few "amphib's and lizzards", maybe. It's supposed to rain all frigging day Saturday 11th and it takes almost 2 hours to drive there on the crazy winding two lane backroads. But there's another one there in June as well if I decide it's too rainy.
Anyway? Have fun in the snow you two! Be safe. Stay warm and be glad you don't live in the mountains of California. Those poor people have 10 to 18 feet of snow and more on the way.
Yeah, I looked them up and was SHOCKED. hahaha She's WAY too good to me.
Make sure you let me know which tax season spiders you get! We'll probably end up paying in again this year, so I doubt that there will be any for me.
Yeah, I definitely don't need that much snow. haha I'll take the 7" we got and be happy. haha Hope all is well!
Hi again Tom! Perfect conversion to centimeters this time haha 🙌
YESSSSSSS. Hahaha Thank you!
I have an immanis and intermedia and both are fantastic spiders - big, beautiful, colorful, ferocious eaters, what’s not to love about this genus
Hey, Parker! I agree!
One of my "bucket list" spiders. Simply gorgeous. I think the enclosure might be worth the investment if it doesn't warp over time and you are the type to enjoy sitting and watching your spiders about their business. Having such a clear enclosure for a large beautiful adult seems wonderful to me
Hi, Madeline! They really are amazing, despite the price. And I will definitely keep people updated on the warping, as that's a concern that I have. Fingers crossed that it doesn't become and issue, because I agree...the clearness is amazing. Thanks!
I love the bioactive setup. I don’t tend to use them for Ts very often but they work incredibly well with trapdoor spiders and less web producing mygalomorphae.
Yeah, I tend to pick and choose which ones I add plants to. This one spent the last three days tearing the plant apart. Oh well!
Hi Tom,
Great rehousing and information video. This Tarantula is simply stunning, the Carapace is mindblowingly gorgeous! I’m gonna say that she’s a She 😂😂
Take care 🕷️🕷️
Thanks so much, Joanne! I'm thinking she as well. haha
Hello great video information and rehousing nice Tarantula Tom
Happy Saturday, Moon! And thank you so much!
Awesome looking spider. Definitely being added to my collection this year.
Thanks, bud! Hope all is well!
I had Pothos in all 3 of my Xenesthis intermedia enclosures and they dug them up exposing all of the roots repeatedly and killed them eventually. I'm sure it will work for some but I got tired of trying to re bury them. And I ended up with the "wasteland" you spoke of lol
Hey, Bill! Yup, that's what I was afraid of. Mine has already started to butcher the one in her enclosure. haha
Stunning T! I must say the 12 in. Tarantula Cube is a great display enclosure. I use one for my B Boehmei. Lots of room.
Hi, Tina! Yeah, I'm really loving how this looks!
Absolutely gorgeous!!! 🕷♥️♥️♥️🕷
Thank you, Lisa!
Awww. Now She's becoming really beautiful. Wonderful starburst Pattern. The Setup looks nice too, let's hope the Pothos will make it🤞
Thanks, Mike! It's not looking so good for the pothos...she's been ripping the leaves off one by one. haha
Stunning carapace!!!🤩
I love the color, Sandy!
Just picked up a breeding pair of these beauties 🙌 absolutely gorgeous
Congrats, that's awesome!
Nice! My N incei passed away due to old age. I wished they lived longer. So this will be my next purchase! I know 10 is my limit. I will be getting 3 of these in hopes of getting 1 female. Buying 3 will take me to 11. My T albo is male and should be gone in a few years (sadly). When he passes I will be back at 10. My LP is going to need some room before long. I am slowly feeding it to keep it from growing too fast. Hoping it is a female, but still, Big spider = more room. Thankfully with my feeding schedule it is only at 1 inch. Pinhead crickets seem to do the trick or a large cricket leg. No noticeable abdomen grown. Healthy and happy it seems. Trying to delay the inevitable LOL. When summer hits I will boost it's feeding a bit to finally get it out of it's sling colors and into it's adult colors. I will be moving soon and I don't want any of my "Heavy bodied" T's to be too plump during transit. A loss during transit would be devastating. Why do I always ramble on your videos? lol Love the podcasts! 45 minutes or more is great! It makes my Monday mornings go by so fast! Shout out to Billie as always! She kills it every time! From the bottom of my heart I want I say "Thank you Tom for all that you do."
p.s. I knew that my next Monday was going to be rough so I skipped this weeks podcast! LOL Two podcasts in one day is going to be FANTASTIC! So much work is going to be done! It will be awesome!
Awwwww...I'm so sorry to hear that, Dusty! And big spider DOES = more room. I wish that all folks thought of it that way. And thank YOU for always taking the time to watch, listen, and comment. I truly appreciate it, Dusty!
Best shirt yet!
Great videos as always. Keep em coming!
Hahaha I LOVE this shirt, thanks!
A lush enclosure for an equally lush spider :) Good to hear that it took to the burrow instead of rooting up the plant. Looking forward for a feeding clip at some point to see how things are holding up with time.
Stay safe and thanks for sharing :)
Hey, Luc! Well, about that plant...hahaha It's been ripping the leaves off it one by one. I don't think that the plant is going to make it. Thanks so much, bud! Always appreciate the comments!
Wow!!! Absolutely stunning spider 🩷🩷💜 awesome video 📹 thank you for sharing Mr and Mrs Tom 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you for watching, Susan! :)
Ah brilliant video Tom, really enjoyed it, that Xenesthis is absolutely stunning, love the colour on the car
Hey, George! Isn't that carapace stunning? Love that color. And no worries...thank you so much!
Great video I hope for a room tour video coming soon
Hopefully, very soon. Every time I go to do one, I get a bunch of new enclosures that I want to use. haha
I love the T-Cribs stuff. It's nice looking. I like going slow. Buy the animal and then buy the enclosure instead of just going all out on animals and having to just do DIY enclosures. That's my method. Not the "right method " but just my method.
Hey, whatever works for you! I like to save buying the nice enclosures to mine are young adults. There is definitely no right or wrong way, as long as the spider is set up correctly.
@@TomsBigSpiders Exactly. Hope you've been well. Take care buddy. :)
My A. Gen has been hovering over her water bowl so thank you so much for the piece of advice you included about that, always love your videos, thanks again Tom!!
I'm so glad that was helpful, Courtney! I would just moisten down part of the substrate and see what happens!
Great video Tom she is gorgeous I've got my first one and molted about a week ago.and I agree they do put size on.
Thanks so much, James...and congrats on the molt! They tend to REALLY grow quickly in their first year or so!
Thank you for a nice Enclosure setup video. Always informative and cool to see ur videos.
14:28 i was about to warn you, you have a spider loose under one of ur bags.. Before realising it was the Tarantaua picture from the Substrate bag 🤣
Ha! Oh my god, I totally see that! haha Thanks so much!
@@TomsBigSpiders It looked so real from that angle,, the bag on the left side you could easily make out it was a picture. but that one got me 😅
Keep an eye out, these are some extremely crafty ninja escape artists 🤭
@@aliensensation8299 It really did! I wonder if you'll be the only one to mention it?
Beautiful tarantula 🥰
Great video as always Tom! Like you im at the point where im not getting many more spiders so im upgrading to nicer enclosures. I like that you show which enclosures you are using.
It's a nice place to be at, honestly! :) And thank you so much. I love sharing the enclosures that I try out.
Great video as always
Thanks so much, Chantal!
Picking up a Sp. Bright from Tom Patterson over at Hardcore Arachnids this coming Tuesday and so excited for my first Xenethesis. Thanks for all the great info on this species throughout the last couple years, can’t wait to take care of my own.
That's awesome! I love my species bright. And thanks for the very kind words!
Great video as always, Tom. I’ve learned so much from you over the years. ❤
Thank you so much, Jackson! I really appreciate it!
Finally big T
Thanks, Amber! haha
We had a snow day here last week. We got 3 inches that laid until late afternoon. They kids got a snow day and started late so they could play in the snow which we do not get very often in the desert. Hi Billie. Don't let Tom lose fingers. He is going to have to use gloves someday. Have a great week.
Awwww...that's awesome that the kids got to go out! We got about 7". Believe it or not, this was our first significant snowfall all winter!
@@TomsBigSpiders It has been like that in Canada (parts of it) too. My friend said they had a green Christmas and we are getting snow that lays. We have snow every year usually in the early am hours. Then when the sun comes up it melts. We had 3 inches of snow that laid. It amazes me. Spring is early tho. We had upper 70's this last 2 weeks. But it will go down again and we WILL get another blast of cold before the hot comes. I hope we don't get what we had in '97. I snowed, sleeted and rained on Easter. Because I had to go and say. At least we don't have to worry about it snowing on Easter here the way we did back in Wisconsin. God showed me! Have a blessed week my friend and give our love to Billie. She is a keeper!!
Nice one Tom, enclosure looks great, very informative as always, T looks stunning, still not bit the bullet with Xenesthis yet but I'm sure I will 👍🏻
Hey, Sean! Thank you so much!
Thanks for showing us the setup process this time. You always do a great job explaining what you do and why you do it. She is a gorgeous girl 🕷😍
Love that C.H.U.D. shirt too 👍
That CHUD shirt is badass
Thank you so much! And I LOVE this shirt. C.H.U.D. has been a running joke in our house for years. haha Love the movie.
Thanks, Parker!
I keep thinking your tarantula figure behind you is real and I keep screaming at the screen that one got out 😂
Hahaha! That's actually a molt from one of my T. blondis. :)
I have thought about getting one of these for my GBB because they look awesome, but I worry about her webbing the top shut lol Great video!
Yeah, that could be a concern. I had one of my adults in a 12 x 12 x 12 exo terra, and it wasn't an issue. Maybe it wouldn't be with this one!
@@TomsBigSpiders Great to know thank you!
5:42 Tom, I've found that mixing in a bowl or bucket, then transferring to the enclosure, is the way to go. It's what all the cool kids are doing.
Hey, Brian! Sooooo...funny story. I mixed up the substrate the night before, and I left it in the garage over night...where it froze. haha. Great tip, and you are absolutely right! On this one, I just was not cool enough... :)
I got a tarantula crib enclosure as a birthday gift in October and it warped almost immediately. I guess it's an acrylic thing in general? I was really excited to set it up and it's otherwise very nice. But having to fight to slide open the lid is pretty disappointing.
Thanks for chiming in, Joe! I have MANY acrylic enclosures, and warping seems to be a common issue with many of them. In most cases, the warping is a minor inconvenience. However, if the lid to this was to warp, it would likely render the enclosure unusable. Sorry to hear about that.
🕷👍
Thanks, Tom!
I have one of these. Super bolty. This video was super helpful to me. I will be giving mine more water tomorrow. Just wondering why mine sticks it’s booty in the air when it moves.
Hi, Rebecca! Glad that this was helpful. They will often stick their booties in the air to look larger if they feel threatened.
great video! Im curious if you have any videos or wrote any articles on tarantulas that are being picky eaters?
Hi, Zach! I've thought about doing one, but it seems to vary more from specimen to specimen than species to species.
Hey Tom! I’m experiencing what I believe is one of those ‘fake deaths’ with my 1.5in p. Ecclesiasticus. I was wanted to know if there was anything I should be doing besides making sure it gets hydrated. Right now I have it on its back and I’m using a syringe to put water in its mouth daily. It has been doing small twitches for the last week or so with very little movement otherwise. Also I wanted to know if there was anything I should be recording/documenting for the hobby otherwise. Thanks so much loving the podcast and videos!
Hi, William! Man, it's so odd that these keep happening with Psalmopeous species. For mine, I put it on paper towel and moistened down part of it in case it wanted to drink. If it starts improving, I would try it with prekilled prey as to not stress it out. Besides that, there really isn't much to do. Keep me update, please!
She or he is blue-tiful, ❣️💙 sorry little blue front
Bahahaha Thanks, Melody!
@@TomsBigSpiders you're welcome, LoL 😂
Hi. That's a beautiful beautiful tarantula. I really like this species but don't currently have any. Do you think that there is more of a chance to get haired by a xenesthis species that a b smithi or a t vagans Have a great day. ,🕷️🕸️🦂
Hello! Mine all went through quite a kicky stage where they wouldn't hesitate to kick. That said, my B. smithi did, too. I think that giving them more space and deep sub in which to burrow a bit helps.
Hi Tom, is an area of 12"x12" really enough for a T that gets 8"+ in size?
Hey, bud! I just went back into the video, and apparently I cut out the part (18:38) by accident where I said that we'd see how big she got and decide if it would be large enough for her. I can say that I have an 8+" Phormictopus Dominican purple, and she would probably been okay in one this size. However, if not, I have 10-gallon ones ready for them.
Question! When should you pull an egg sack or look for it (if hidden)? Or is it okay to just wait to see what happens? I have a Trinidad olive who has been sealed for about a month but don't want to disturb her. Any help would be great
I'm so sorry...I missed this one! Most pull them around 30 days after they first see them. You can leave them with mom, which is fine, but it can be a bit of a pain collecting all of the slings once they molt out to 2nd instar. At that point, they start to scatter. Good luck!
@TomsBigSpiders at least you got back to me. I posted on many creators' pages, and no one responded. Even some of the fb groups as well. I checked Jul 5, and she was acting like she was guarding something, but when I checked, there was nothing. The inside of her hole was thick with the web, but nothing was there, and she was still the same plumpness she was before she blocked herself in. So either she ate it, or she never laid. So I left her alone, and I was a little upset, but it's been 2 weeks since then, and she has blocked off the hide again (I checked), so I'll see again end of the month.
Hi Tom !! I’m 65 so I’m in a good position to buy it if I want it 😊
Simply Call Tom !!!!
Hi, Candy! Hahahaha That's awesome! :)
What brand of moss is that? As in, what company did you get it from?
Hi, Melly! That's Galapagos brand; I get it from Amazon!

I use both acrylic and glass i perfur glass it more dorabull
Glass definitely has it all over acrylic as far as durability!
Love the sheert .. I used to mess with my kids wen they were little about chud in the sewr
We do the same! hahaha C.H.U.D. has been a bit of a running joke in our house for years!
Lol o yeah more substrate lol jk
I actually added a bit more after the video. haha
@@TomsBigSpiders lololol hahaha
Scratch your acrylic mixing the substrate in the cube.
I was being careful. Besides, scratches are going to happen at the substrate level even when you just pack it down.
Why don't you just look ventraly to confirm the sex? At that size it's impossible to get it wrong
I'll try to get a peek when it's up on the glass. I did that with the last one that I rehoused.
mine is a 1.5 to 2 in. sling. It has made a massive burrow system and it definitely likes it a little moist. They will indeed seek out moisture if they are lacking it.
Great to hear that I'm not the only one who has seen this. Thanks for chiming in!
