- Dana Point: Exploring Caves, Ships, Restaurants & Beaches
Amie and I took a trip down to Dana Point and spent 36 hours exploring the city and what there is to do there. During our time we hiked to a sea cave, rented jet skis, touched sharks, photographed the sunset and explored the Ritz Carlton. It was a whirlwind 36 hours.

Thanks Josh. This brought back so many memories. My Ex wife & I used to visit Dana Point when we lived in Orange County. But back in the seventies it was just a sleepy beach town. We used to talk about how nice it would be to have a little beach house on top of the bluff. Back then it was just open land up there pretty much. The view is just amazing. No surprise it became a luxury destination.
I used to live there
Great informative video. Dana Point has everything a visitor can want in a beach town, half way between L.A. and San Diego. Next door to Laguna Beach, San Juan Capistrano and San Clemente, three other great places. Kudos for finding two of the best eateries in town, Stacks and The Schwack, where the locals eat too. Interesting trivia, Salt Creek Beach below the Ritz Carlton was where the photo used for the iconic movie poster for Bruce Brown's classic surf doc "Endless Summer" was taken.
Thanks for the comment and for the info on Endless Summer, I had no idea!
The caves are very dangerous- rocks fall there all the time! My husband was hit by one and nearly killed. Please be cautious if you go here!
the Pilgrim was recently sunk. Repairs were too risky so it went bye-bye
I was wondering what happened, thank you
yup,, definitely coming here , 1 hour drive from Long Beach ..That Cave is Sick ! your new name is Gem Finder .
You would love that sea cave hike, short and easy but a cool spot to explore!
Nk
Ian Mandel lol he is one of thousands to “find” the cave
Check out El Matador in Malibu there’s a giant sea cave there as well
Really great episode mate! That hotel and general area looked amazing. Plus, alongside the beautiful videography and fantastic drone shots, you unknowingly reminded me of the name 'Dana Point' which I've been trying to remember for about three weeks! I was like "what's that place we always drive through on our way down the Pacific coastline that has the little lighthouses as you enter through the gateway?!" 😀 so thanks for that!! I'll have to make a point to stop off there next time...
Really appreciate it, thanks for the videography compliment! Glad the video helped you remember the name
Dana Point is named for Richard Henry Dana, 1815 -1882, author of the classic book "Two Years Before the Mast." A terrific true story of a young Boston native visiting California by sailing ship, before it was a State.
I live in Dana Point and didn’t even know about those caves! Thanks!! :)
Same lol
Lmao same tho
Really great vlog, it's beautifully filmed and I loved your commentary! Keep up the great work!
Thank you, I really appreciate it!
1000 steps...
Sea Cave.
Right there
by Dana Point.
Didnt make the list?
Will have to check that out next time I am in the area, it has been a while.
1000 steps is in Laguna Beach, they were exploring Dana Point not Laguna Beach
Remembering Dana point and surrounding area's about 1946/1947. Some of us guys would ride our bikes from Long Beach and explore the deserted caves and big gun emplacements that the military had set up for coastal protection during the war. Lots of adventure, no houses, no people. Palo Verde same way.
That sounds awesome
RIP lil Pilgrim.
I really enjoy all your videos, so informative! Thank you.
Thank you, I appreciate it!
Those strands stairs are like hell. I have to walk up and down them 5 days a week for Junior lifeguards
Pasadena CA. would be a good episode. Lots to do From hiking, Dining,Ice skating, Art and History museums.
That's a great suggestion, I will have to add that to the list!

It is I always looked at his videos before and while I was out all over So Cal from Malibu to San Diego.. loved Donut Bar!!
Amazing video!!! My earliest memories are in dana point, I grew up off selva rd, at RH Dana elementary we had a field trip to visit the ocean institute and one to visit the pilgrim boat, we also had a trip to see the whales and we buried a time capsule right in the cliff, that was about 25 years ago, I wonder if it’s still there
Pilgrim is not there anymore
In 1949 there were no commercial buildings along this stretch of Coast Highway. We camped on Salt Creek beach and gathered abalone from the under water cave at Dana Point. The men cleaned the stomachs out and the Mothers pounded the slices until tender. We fried them in hot butter for a minute and half on each side. They were delicious. Read "Two Years Before the Mast" by Dana. Susanna Pyron
Those were the days! Where is that under water cave?

This is great information. I love the caves and the funicular! If you're ever back, we loooove The Schwack for casual dining and they have beer if you're interested. They're consistently good and relaxed. A's Bugers are pretty great too.

Amazing...what song is this?
I slept on the Dana Point Mariner
Im visiting Anaheim for 3 days this weekend. Is it worth making the trip to Dana Point?
Well, there's a lot of choices of Orange County Beaches. I think Dana Point is great for hiking and beautiful views and some nice restaurants. Nearby Laguna Beach is my favorite though and if you're into art, that's the town to visit. They also have great dining, views, and hiking. Huntington Beach is the best for surf culture and wide and spacious beaches. . But Disney can take two days to really see it, if that's what you're interested in. So you may have to pick and choose. I would try to find time to go to at least one of the beaches I mentioned, though.
Who made that 1st beat? Fire
What a nice experience.
Nice..Thank you...
Love it! ❤️
Just moved from Dana point 💕💕
