So wait This means Nocturne, Shin Megami Tensei, Devil May Cry, Blair Witch and Bloodrayne are all only a few degrees of seperation from each other?! My mind is kind of explode
4:50 "what makes you think the Grail is a myth?" that line alone makes me want to play this, there are characters where you learn things alongside them both of you as a neophyte, but then there's ones like the Stranger who come along with an air of mystery surrounding them that gives them character and makes you want to learn more about them specifically.
Damn you. Now I can't take this video seriously. He's just havin' a genuine go describing the game's premise and I'm over here like "LAWL HER LAB COAT THO!"
I don't think that extreme fall damage is caused by bad game design, you are playing at a high FPS, probably something that exceeds the intended one the engine is tied to. That also explains those weird twitches on jigglebones such as Strangers coat.
Yes Stranger does take ALOT of fall damage but even in my experience (Where I DID limit the FPS, which fixes the coat.) he didn't take THAT much fall damage.Granted the different is not much but it is more. Also sure it's responsible for jumping moving that fast since I don't recall it being that fast?
I played all of these games back when they were first released and the cloth physics were always glitchy while running on PCs from their time. I don't remember dying this often from falls though.
One thing I love about the characters in this game is they are played naturally. Like in the first story writers could easily make Stranger constantly talk about how he doesn't trust Svetlana. Instead Stranger deals with working with her in a professional manner and plays it cool. I feel like there is a lot of potential for a game set in a world filled with many different dangers like demons, ghosts, eldrich horrors and aliens, instead we get zombie/mutant games all the time with a focus on one type of monster throughout whole story.
Damn can't believe brit is covering one of terminal reality's first games. I discovered nocturne this year due to getting into bloodrayne and it seems pretty neat, though I'm not surprised it would have some jank in some form.
BloodRayne is a spiritual successor to Nocturne and the titular Rayne is voiced by Laura Bailey. Video makes mention that it took until RE6 to feature waist-down nudity while Nocturne accomplished this in 1999. Nude character shown is Deborah, the younger sister of Helena, who is voiced by Laura Bailey. It's all connected.
I played Nocturne as a 9 years old child and this had a big influence on my taste in movies, fashion and even my character, I can see it now, it took me months to beat the game, one hour a day or three on weekends. I was so excited to see some video on it on internet and what a great video this turned out to be. I'm not a gamer anymore but the thought that this may be a continuation of the original excited me beyond words, again cant put into words how the nostalgia and your descriptions made this half an hour a surreal experience. Thank you 🖤
Man, something about a classic horror game running at a high framerate with some decent physics (for the time) just looks really cool. Now I want to play this. Watching monsters on fire gib into 50 pieces without the slow FPS I'm used to in old horror games just looks neat. Reminds me of DMC in a way, and not just the guns akimbo.
Great video. The cover of the game box always mesmerized me as a kid. What a great game even with all the jank. Those insta deaths made my brother and I laugh back in the day. Good times
I played the demo of this ages ago and loved the crap out of it. It oozes atmosphere and the graphics were really mind blowing for its time with the real time shadows.
Nocturne needs to be remade. No, not with modern grafix, but made less ASS. No stupid bugs, models with proper animations, controls that are enjoyable. Keep the story, just polish the game. Perhaps Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare could have an episode. Did you even play it?
I played this game as a kid. I remember getting hard stuck when I accidentally saved right before I was gonna die. I don't think I ever got very far into it.
Just the other days I was thinking about this game; it's been quite a few years since I've heard anybody mentioning it, so it's pretty nice to see it getting some recognition that it truly deserves. At least at the nostalgia level. Cheers, man - excellent put together video.
Thank you so much for this video ! I'm always looking for old school survival horror game with this fixed camera thing, and Nocturne and the blair witch trilogy games are just what I'm looking for :)

Even at the age of 28, this game still gives me the chills. Just recently downloaded it and it still creeps me out at a few moments. I never played it as a kid, my father and brother played it more. I’m more familiar with the first two acts, a bit familiar with act three, but I dont think they ever got to the forth act or far into it. The first act is probably the best, as it features everything classic horror movie fans would enjoy, from the settings to the monsters. The second act has a great start with the werewolves on the train and the zombies in the western town, but I feel like bug creatures just makes the game go from horror to sci-fi. The last two I have very little understand of, other than three taking place in Chicago and having to reanimating corpses and four having to do with some psychopath locking Stranger up in a house with monsters.
I wish the devs of Nocturne were still around making these kinds of games. I remember seeing it when I was little, the church being a refuge for a zombie outbreak in some dark, dreary village. No. Instead there was a sequel in the works and the higher ups shifted it from being about the Stranger main protagonist to being about the sexy sidekick vampire character...Rayne, effectively starting the Bloodrayne games.
@@WarlockX4 well, it's like Gamingbrit said in the vid: Svetlana served as a base for Rayne in the new Bloodrayne games that followed because sex appeal. And we all know how that trend in games went.
I like Bloodrayne 1, but yeah, Nocturne deserves a sequel or at least a good remaster. Too bad what happened to the dev, that Walking Dead game was terrible.
You've mentioned bloodrayne. I remember my cousin used to play that game in a gamecube when I was a kid, it was pretty cool for the time. It would be great if you did a vid about them since I find those games pretty unique. Man, this makes me miss when games were more unique and varied, we need to bring back AA gaming.
I still own the CD's to this game. Rumor has it that Nightdive Studios might remaster this at one point, but that is only a rumor. Still, I hope to see this game again someday. I still love it.
I hope they can remaster it for both consoles and pc. I only found out about this this year and I don't own a CD copy. I liked Bloodrayne, well the 1st one as you got to fight Nazis.
I’ve actually started writing a story inspired by Nocturne, Bloodrayne, house of the dead, resident evil, nightmare creatures and other 90’s and early 2000’s horror movies and games. It follows the experiences of several agents working for a monster hunting organization and the very horrible creatures and nightmarish scenarios they find themselves in ranging from natural monster conflicts, missing people, man made and caused monsters and anomalies, government experimentations gone wild, mutations and various other horror scenarios. Several agents themselves are monsters ranging from vampires, werewolves, changelings, lizard people and various others.
If anybody wants or knows game developers I haven’t finished each story but I know the direction each goes in. I’ve also got a range of characters and ideas as well as several monster scenarios ranging from parasites reawakened accidentally by vampires in the swamps of New Orleans, a military laboratory working on genetic weoponry of human insect hybrids gone wrong from a mad scientist, a facility overrun with mutated plants and insects, a situation where a cult finds real monsters known as wytches and in exchange for their ability to cure diseases and issues they require human sacrifices which the town provides, an incident in Ireland featuring insect like creatures that fall under the fae category of monsters wearing people’s skins, a situation with rat people in the sewers of L.A. devouring people turns out to be an issue related to lizard men, a string of bizarre murders caused by large giant like creatures, an incident in Hollywood where pornographic snuff films featuring bizarre vampiric like creatures require a dhampir’s and female vampires touch in stopping the films, as well as many more.
I played it when it first came out and loved it!.......well expect for the last chapter and the excess of instant death puzzle. It had some glitches like all games of the era but it was no where near as bad as it appears if you play it on a modern system. I tried playing it again years later on vista I think and the glitching was insane and i honestly think it somehow made ladders in some areas unusable. Great video and makes me miss the idea of a sequel but no desire to try to boot it up again. I actually forgot it had that first person view i never used it in game. Oh and the cloth physics had less of a possessed feel.........though i recall the gradma from the texas level siting in a church pew with her skirt kept inching up higher and higher on its own......true horror that for my young mind lol
10:38 Had the video in the background and thought it was weird to hear Grim's voice all of a sudden XD. He recently remade the review for the game too.
