I thought Chris was at his peak in this game. He drops everything and comes to a dangerous zombie-infested island because he hears that his little sister is in trouble. There's also the gold lugers, are they even usable as actual weapons in the game? You can equip them, they have an ammo counter and the description says they can hold 30 rounds but there's no ammo for them anywhere. Kind of weird that they're nothing but keys for that one door even though they're programmed as fully functional weapons that you can't really use.
I always loved Code: Veronica in my own way, but there was also something about it that made it my least favorite "classic-style" RE game. After watching this, I understand why I felt that way about it and why it was always difficult for me to come back to it in comparison to the others, even those of the action trilogy. Still, I love playing the game, especially because of these things: - The ability to play as Chris and Claire again, and in the same game, is pretty awesome. I have owned the PS2 version as a kid, so playing this game with classic controls was a big plus for me. - You can play as Wesker in the Battle Game, this game's mini-game. - The knife is extremely fun to use in this game. - Obtaining the rocket launcher in this game (the infinite one) is actually a very difficult challenge and one that I've never been up to doing myself. - This game has the dumbest, most dramatic story in the series, and that makes it extremely appealing to me. Thanks, also, TGB, for staying authentic and playing the original DC release for this video!
I'm sure I will one day :) Learning how to speedrun and master each game is one of the most amazing feelings in gaming to me, and doing that with Code: Veronica will surely be just as awesome, even if it takes insane work. I've owned the strategy guide for Code: Veronica X since I was little. It was passed down from my father. As a kid, I couldn't beat Code: Veronica despite having no trouble playing RE1 and RE2 (which were also my father's games) and the fact that my dad owned the strategy guide only for C:V sort of created this legend that Code: Veronica was unwinnable or something. It was the Prima guide, and reading the requirements for getting an A rank was like, "Well, I guess that's not happening!" It wouldn't be until my teenagehood that I was able to beat it alone without the guide, but maybe one day I'll be able to get an A rank.
Channel: NES1995 As someone that managed to unlock the rocket launcher for Code: Veronica X, the first and only time in any classic RE game, it was...honestly, pretty underwhelming compared to what I had to do to get it. Memorizing the majority of puzzles and difficult enemy locations, avoiding zombies and unnecessary encounters as best as I could (Which is kinda easy for zombies since I recall it being really easy to break out of most zombie grabs before losing health, anyways), accumulating as much rare ammo and weapons as I could to the point of using only the knife to kill the Nosferatu-looking monster (Which is somehow doable if you manage to stab it right a certain way), all to get a Rocket Launcher that I only ever used on a few zombies. I mean, I had some fun with the game, but completion just wasn’t worth it in hindsight.
@@bakerdoze To be fair, I would argue getting the infinite rocket launcher is never really worth it in terms of gameplay. To me, it is worth the journey it takes to get there, as well as the added bonus of being able to say "Hey, I feel like speedrunning Resident Evil *blank* today!" and actually being able to do it xD Having the infinite rocket launcher is a lot of fun in 4 and 5, though. I really wish RE6 had an infinite rocket launcher!
So, who here left the fire extinguisher on the island, inside the security box, and was unable to put out the fire to get the AK later in Antarctica your first playthrough?
@@joshuanelson6795 Yep, if the game "doesnt ask you" to get rid of the item because its useless, you should always keep it with you in one way or another.
This is mostly unrelated to the video but I find it kind of interesting how there are a lot of classic game series/formats that at the time people started to get fatigued by but now they're so scarce and we've been without them for so long that they're craving it. Classic Resident Evil, Tony Hawk's is another that comes to mind. To a lesser extent I feel like this is true for classic action games like Devil May Cry. Capcom was worried they weren't innovating enough with the series, only for it to basically enter a hiatus for five years, broken by a reboot most fans didn't like, followed by a six year hiatus until we got a classic title in a format we basically don't see anymore at all.
If you go from Nemesis to Veronica, it seems like kind of a step back. Nemesis had "fight or flight" choices when it came to Nemesis. But Veronica was just linear and kind of boring. The gunpowder was removed, so how you mixed those was another choice taken out. While there's 2 characters to play as, you don't choose like in RE1 or 2. If anything, it's a bit worse. Sure, 3 didn't let you choose either but you got to play as Carlos for a bit when Jill got infected. Whereas Chris' first section is just retreading old ground. So 3's character changed move the plot forward whereas Veronica just had you play as Chris to catch up to Claire, which is boring. Wesker was brought back. I love the character and his voice but it's kind of a "Wait, what?" moment if you think about it too much. Wesker injected himself with some experimental serum, to revive him after death and it also gave him super powers. You'd think that would change the direction of the series. Here's something that brings people back to life, super powered and no longer mindless zombies. Why isn't Umbrella trying to recreate that? Ok, the PR from RE2 pretty much kills the company but why isn't this Wesker's plan to find a way to recreate that serum and make mad money off of it? We keep going back to zombies or zombie like creatures. I'm probably just overthinking this.
for some reason also the voice acting felt like a big step back from re3 and 2, weird since the voice actress for claire is the same, but the script was way cheesier than in 3 and 2, also yeah mechanics being removed and for some reason it really annoyed me not being able to walk up the stair by myself specially when there was an enemy and i knew that he was going to hit me because there was no way of stopping my character and shooting the guy down
@@rollins1212 I really like Claire's voice acting in 2 and in general the Canadian casts which were used for the earlier games, but Veronica's problem was in cultural differences in direction I think more than anything. My theory is the creators wanted the game to be the most cinematic yet by baking in the melodrama, so the cast delivered their lines in a less Hollywood and a more Japanese soap opera type way.
@@12ealDealOfficial yes it did have some weird soap opera moments, like those awkward "romantic" moments with Claire and Steve with a romantic song appearing out of nowhere, i do think that out of re2, 3 and cv, cv is the one that would gain the most from a remake because of all of the reasons that many of us said(including those in the video)
@@rollins1212 I think most would agree the gameplay could use some refinement. With all the first person stuff going on, I'd LOVE if they went that direction. But imagine the Alexia boss battle theme getting a fresh coat of paint!

I think it's no surprise that when Code Veronica came out that reviews for it were talking about "Resident Evil fatigue" that gave so much hype and energy to the RE4 pre-release coverage for not having normal zombies, not having fixed camera angles, etc. It's crazy to think it, but only 5ish years into the IP's lifespan and people were already tiring of it (and now here we are with 7 people wanting to go back to basics). IDK how many of the watchers here can remember those early days, but I certainly do. One thing you didn't mention though - the knife is INSANELY good in this game! Rather than striking an enemy one time per swing, it hits for as long as the hitbox is hitting an enemy's hurtbox - so you can score several hits at once especially on downed enemies, making this the first time the knife wasn't a total joke best left in the item box. It also has that cool secret instant kill on Nosferatu as well.
I wouldn't say Code V was shitty, just very.... run of the mill. The formula got stale because new things weren't really being added to it here, and mind you Capcom WAS farting these games out hella fast in those days. After Code V we got the Big Nintendo deal where not only did we get REmake but also Gamecube ports of RE2, 3, and Code VX, as well as Zero a year later. On the PS2 side of things we got the Outbreak games (which were good but janky and ahead of their time tbh) and Dead Aim, granted that game wasn't traditional RE, it was the third in the Guncon games. Still, the point remains that an RE that rests on its laurels will magnify the faults it has, and an oversaturation of ports will devalue people's respect of them.
Saying Code V wasn't good is kind of hyperbolic. It wasn't great, but it was not a -bad- game. Zero was better, and its inventory system I thought was fine - many people thought it an improvement over the Item Box. Outbreak's online was ahead of its time, but it did work if you were one of the only people with broadband in 2003. Dead Aim... yeah that one was kinda shit lmao
Only 5-ish years of lifespan with 10+ games. The series was oversaturated with the same old bullshit. Something that you failed to understand as to why people got tired of it. Especially when Silent Hill at the time overthrown Resident Evil in terms of "Survival Horror" genre.
@@Pretzelcoatlus First of all, who the fuck are you? Am I replying to your comment in the first place? No. I'm not even talking to you and yet you got triggered for some stupid reason. Superiority complex much?
what are you guys talking about? Code veronica was loved by everyone when it FIRST released (the code veronica X got poor reviews). Go look it up if you don't believe me. RE4 came out after resident evil 0 and resident REMAKE. That's when people were talking ''resident evil fatigue'' 2 entire games later
How long until the next one? I've literally been waiting 8 months so far. Great series! Edit: 1 year now... Edit: STILL waiting 14 months later... Edit: the new one has been out for a month now and I haven't bothered to watch it... LOLOL
Having recently completed a playthrough of Code Veronica myself, I have to say you hit it pretty on the nose here. Even though the story had me crying from laughter during a couple of scenes it came off as incredibly lame compared to re3 or re2. I had my head in my hands during the romance scenes. And the gameplay itself bored me so I was mostly beating it just so I could see the next cutscene where Alfred was present and so I could scratch another Resident Evil game off of my playlist. Luckily the serieshas a couple of zingers before the next dissapointment.
At the time of the original dreamcast release I can see why it got glowing praise. The game's graphics would have been a huge step up from what came before and the style was something new in the series. The level design is at its most complex and the game is rather difficult. My favourite areas would be the prison, mansions and Antarctica. The game's soundtrack is also my favourite in the series. However I think this game has aged the worst aside from the original. The training facility and airport are the least interesting areas in the game and yet are horribly padded out, especially since Chris's scenario forces you to do them again. Monster designs are decent. I like the variety of the zombie designs, the spider redesigns are alrights and the returning mosnters have been updated just fine. The original monsters fall flat. Bandersnatch's look goofy and are irritating to encounter in the game. The poisonous flying creatures are just a nuisance. The zombie salamanders are just lame. The boss fights can be very hit or miss. I'll give the development team credit for trying to make the mandatory fights more interesting than just stand, shoot and move. Nosforatu is easily the highlight. A great monster design and interesting sniper fight where you have to shoot him just when he close enough to be visible but for your in his range. Alexia form 1 can be rather tense with her instant kill attack and attempts to block your escape with walls of fire. I even don't mind the tyrant despite being a real sucker punch on a first playthrough. However, Alexia form 2 is an irritating fight with too much going on, form 3 being irritating to hit and mutant Steve has to be one of the most bullshit moments in all of Resident Evil. The other fights are so un-threating they're not worth mentioning. I'll give them credit for trying to create an ambitious story but I think it falls flat. The voice acting and dialogue is laughably bad(Claire being the exception), the villains are more funny than threatening (aside from Alexia after transforming) and the love story is terrible. Its entertaining but for all the wrong reasons. Overall I like the game but it my least favourite in the classic resident evil series so far (I've yet to play Zero). I'd give it B rank for being fun overall but held back by noticeable flaws.
This is my second favorite of the classic RE games (after 2). It's just so batshit insane and I love it. From the characters to the voice acting to the insanity of having a lab in Antarctica.
Saying code Veronica is a game of it's time sums up it's issues nicely. Nemesis was in retrospect fine and even innovative. I don't get why people hate it outside of, ''it's still tank controls.'' If one game hasn't evolved it's Veronica. I was baffled when I first played it and had to auto climb stairs. I replayed zero more than I did this.
RE3 was and is still the best in the franchise in terms of tight gameplay and perfect pacing. The game even geniously subverts its own tropes while celebrating them at the same time. The music was relentless while that visual look, with those salmon reds, hard yellows, and blacks, could only be described as lurid.
@@SaberRexZealot Indeed it was beautiful even though some of the environnements were a bit drab. As the mechanics, they were poorly done but I'd like to see them done again.
I am a bit disappointed that you didn't really like this one. CVX and REmake and definitely my favorite Resi games. I don't remember that cheesy ending theme though. Possibly because I played Code Veronica X instead? I'm REALLY looking forward to your take on REmake.
You forgot to mention the weirdly out-of-place one on one fight cutscene between Chris and Wesker after the final boss It's like five whole minutes of slow-motion crap lmao
I had literally 5 softlocks in this Me and my counsin tried to beat this game for like 3 years We screamed in happiness when we did it and open a Coke to celebrate
The idea of going back into an area after its token Resident Evil self-destruct and trying to traverse the wreckage was interesting, but my main issue with it is that it feels like you could have survived it as some areas were almost completely untouched by the explosion. But needing to re-acquire the blue plate key item previously left by Claire believing it was no longer useful is also a good example of subversion with how in the RE games your character somehow always knows when a key item is no longer needed.
Code: Veronica is weirdly like Sonic CD (compared to Sonic 2) in terms of its development: it's clear there were some ideas implemented from the sequel that was in development simultaneously but it also lacks some of the things that mainline sequel did. The thing that Code: Veronica doesn't have that Resident Evil 3 introduced (and which Zero and REmake retained) which I missed the most... was the ability to move freely on staircases. You can't stop midway and shoot down or up at zombies or expect enemies to shuffle up or down steps after you. That was a really cool thing in parts of REmake.
From a tonal perspective, I think the creators were more concerned with canon by the time Code Veronica was in development - rejecting the vague, ominous feel of the first two games in favour of trying to tie events, characters and backstory together in order to form some kind of lore. As mentioned, the end result is kind of underwhelming and comes across as pretty lukewarm. Especially when compared to the way Silent Hill tells its story.
Nice video, i finished RE Code Veronica last week, and for me this game was the most hard in the classic series, the enemies are more fast than the others, and the aim isn't acurrate as the previuos one. Speaking about the enemies: the tyrant boss fight in the plane you can win easier if you shoot 10 explosives arrows at him, than you can activate the cargo and that's it; and in the steve part you can quick turn and run, he will hit you one time, you use a herb, and run, then you be able to escape with a little bit of trouble.
I missed CV back in the day, so on one of my own personal retrospectives I gave it a whirl. While I enjoyed it for a while, since I enjoy classic RE, once I got to the Wesker children I started having similar feelings to what he describes here. RE was known for cheese, but at this point there are moments where you can't help but wonder if the developers were trolling you.
Wow! What a perfect timing to watch your video, I've just finished the game for the first time like 5 minutes ago and now I have only one Resident Evil game left to play and that's number 4!
Glad to see a more grounded review for once that acknowledges CV's flaws. Yes, it's a nice classic RE game, but it has way more flaws and weird design/character/story/gameplay choices than 1, 2 and 3. It really feels like the odd one out among RE games - for valid reasons. Well done :)
Loved the video and your channel Was listening to this in the background and when you compared the score in veronica to silent hill I instantly went back in time. Great stuff ! :)
Great video! I was interested in this kind of video, to analyze and see what it is about Code Veronica that just kind of makes the game not as fun or memorable as the first three games. The training facility and prison are indeed kind of dull, and the fact that you have to explore those areas twice (once with Claire, and then with Chris) kind of drags down the experience. I felt that the palace and the private residence are the two best areas, and it's a shame that you do not get to spend too much time in them. If there is a Code Veronica Remake one day, I hope that the Remake would focus on and greatly expand upon those two areas. Maybe more so than the first three games, but, to me, Code Veronica just felt like one giant fetch quest that had you running back and forth all over the map. I also remember a lot of room or area transitions taking an extremely long time, such as whenever you have to get on and off the submarine. I also agree that there are certain parts of the game that are poorly designed, from the standpoint that you can permanently screw yourself over (such as the Tyrant plane fight, having no indication about when you are about to switch between Claire and Chris, and, and how easy it is to miss the magnum). I would like to say that the Private Residence could possibly be the creepiest area in any Resident Evil game. I think that it's truly a shame that more wasn't done with that area and setting.
7:12 You can go through that corridor without any zombies. When you go through it first time around, trigger the shutters at the end of it, but don't raise them. When you come back over later on, the zombies won't be able to break the windows and come through.
I always thought that Code Veronica is just a run of the mill standard RE game that doesn't really break new ground outside the graphics or the semi-fixed camera system. I honestly believe it was a clever decision to give Nemesis a numbered title because, unlike Code Veronica, it took more of an ambitious approach in terms of the design and scope. I enjoyed Code Veronica, but not really something that I'd go back to unlike first three entries.
Honestly I never havr the will to end the game, since I played for the first time around 8 years ago I started more than 10 games, but there's something that just makes me lost interest in it
The first time I ever got to the tyrant on the plane I had to restart from the beginning cause i didnt have enough ammo, but for some reason hearing you talk about how long and tedious it is really makes me wanna play through it again
I'm happy to hear that "plane tyrant" is a thing. This was my first Resident Evil game, and I refused to do the Easy difficulty. I went with Hard, got to this point and just could not get passed it. So I restarted, went down to easy, and played more carefully. I then got to the plane, and (if memory serves) they have a rocket launcher sitting in the cockpit on Easy. Suffice to say I got through the second time. And yes, to save my Resident Evil fan card I went back and beat the game on Hard after I did the rest of the series.
Hell yeah I get so excited for every new episode in this series because I’ve been with RE since I was 9 when the first game came out. I’m so excited for the RE 2 remake and will def buy it day one.
Something that I feel should be mentioned is that the knife is actually useable in this game! I mean good luck killing anything that's not a Bat, Regular Zombie, or Dog but it's actually not too bad for those enemies and if you use it to kill the zombies for a bit at the beginning of the game the rest becomes a breeze because you saved so much ammo in the beginning lol
I remember reading somewhere that CODE: Veronica was meant to be the main entry for 3 and Nemesis was made as a side story, but due to time constraints and pushes for a new game they were swapped around.
Completely agree with this review. For Halloween last year, from September until late October (perhaps early November), I played Resident Evil 1-3, Gaiden, Code Veronica, and Outbreak file 2. Even though it definitely has its positives, Code Veronica was the only one I did not want to revisit immediately after.
This was like the first res game me and my mum played, her playing it. the plain boss legit screws her so much she had to restart the entire game again and still couldn't beat him on the plain. She still hasn't beaten it. Still probably one of my favroute for pure nostalgia.
Your commentary is true. However, the boss fight inside the plane is my FAVORITE boss fight of the RE series. I love the whole dodge/get to the spring ejector after it has recharged challenge. Very satisfying after you finally eject his ass out into the clear blue sky! I love the tracking drone/Hunter threat following you. I love the Haunted House style mansion. In fact, I LOVE the whole flawed, illogical, wacky game. GIVE US A REMAKE!
My first playthrough went very poorly. I missed a lot of the more powerful weapons, and chewed through Claire's sub-machine guns, thinking there would be plenty of ammo later. When I got to Alexia, I had to fight her with just the pistol, as the Hunter's had chewed through my Shotgun Shells, and I never found another weapon as Chris. When I got to the final boss, I had to use the Crossbow. Not even with explosive rounds, just the normal crossbow. I didn't have the magnum, the AK, the other SMG's. The pistol wouldn't cut it and the shotgun wasn't cutting it. There were several points where I almost restarted the game. I had to use the Grenade Launcher to get past Mr.BasicallytheIncredibleHulkwithaBattleaxe It was frustrating... but beating it was a relief.
Comment section very divided half hate it the other half its their favorite. Hey everyone has their own favorite resi game, I've played them all and my favorite is 7! How's that for some controversy!! Anyways, resi fans are some of the best and i think it says a lot about the series that so many different titles are considered favorites by fans
I'm the weirdo who calls this his favorite entry in the series but on my current playthrough I can definitely see the devs chose violent when they were developing those Bandersnatch fuckers.
Glad I can zoom to fill the screen on my phone :) Still got vertical white borders though I think black would be preferable. But yeah picked this up day one, US import from the original CEX just off Oxford Street. Fond memories overall. This always felt like a bit of a spin off game but it was alright at the time. Not a patch on the first ones though imho
After watching half of your video I decided to play the game as I love RE1 style of gameplay, I must say that I had a lot of fun and thought that it was very good game. However I agree with every critic, I particularly think the story is good but most of the dialogues are almost RE1 level, it tries to be serious but it comes across as funny. I can't even describe the rage that I felt when the game switched over to Chris, I had to load up my save from 1 hour and a half ago to do the entire Antartic Lab as Claire so I could leave my weapons and ammo for Chris. This character switching out of blue is just as trash as the final boss, at least you can cheese it with the Submachine Guns if you stand in a corner, but if you wasted your ammo it's worse than RE3 Remake Final Nemesis.
16:16 go off, Mr. The Gaming Brit. The tyrant plane fight and this quirk of Claire and Chris sharing the same inventory box could only exist in an age where one didn’t have access to the opening weekend hot takes. Do you imagine the inevitable remake would address them or make some brand new gameplay issue rug pull that even has a cheeky Achievement / Trophy attached?
I know im 4 years late but I have to say. THIS IS MY ALL TIME FAVOURITE RESIDENT EVIL GAME! I remember it absolutely blew my mind when I played it on GC. Its a bit cheesy sometimes but I love the enviroment, the new features. Im already afraid when Capcom eventually remakes this one and makes it a TPS.
Or, and bear with me here, get the Duralumin alloy but set off the alarm right before you make the SP Emblem on the computer side. If the alarm is triggered and the shutters are down (I just pick up the BOW Gas Rounds and dump them there) the zombies never break through.
I've heard everything about this game, especially a lot of hate, but I'll always love it, and will always be one of my favorites. Still, I'd love a good remake of CVX.
I enjoyed the plot of Code Veronica a lot. The gameplay was okay, but I like to play the games to learn more about the lore and I got that from this game.
Tecnically speaking you can dodge the purple poison of the boss, the poison will spread based on where the wind is blowing, so you can predict where the poison will go by watching where the background snow is going. Still annoing as hell though...
Oh shit, I thought this series was dead! Glad to see it return. Hm. Guess my first impressions of this game from playing some of it were pretty much spot on. Don't think I'll be finishing this one.
I loved Code Veronica. Never had any issue with the music, the setting, the bosses. It was cheesy at times, but it didn't ruin anything for me. It just added to the atmosphere. The only thing I guess I could have done without is Wesker's new powers. I still get nostalgia for a replay every time I think about it. I love every one of the games for different reasons. All the Resident Evil and Dino Crisis games are very unique to me, I hardly get the same experience and mood with other games. I loved Silent hill as well, but it creates a complete different mood to me so I don't compere them.
Not quite fair to say they could've effectively implemented a free camera. The environments may have been too complex to render at a decent framerate. Much like fov sliders in pc games, the devs can choose what to render on screen with a fixed viewpoint
It wasn’t just that crash bandicoot boss or whatever but the insta kill puzzle right before it as well was the little portion I had to play a million times to figure out wtf the game wanted me to do
i want to include an anecdote from my playthroughs, i sucessfully went into the Tyrant plane fight with full ammo, thinking that was the ONLY point you could be left weaponless. i didnt realize that near the end of the game you could accidentally go to fight Alexia as Chris weaponless. well, there is a knife in that room - so not TOTALLY weaponless. it took me 34 attempts to not be required to restart from the previous save i had made.
I never got past the 'deposit all metal' bit. My game glitched and wouldn't let me through even if I had a 100% empty inventory, and I just never tried again.

@@ruaridh2k7 Awesome! And I can definitely imagine that, with all the needless running around and the possibility of being low on supplies.
So, who here left the fire extinguisher on the island, inside the security box, and was unable to put out the fire to get the AK later in Antarctica your first playthrough?
The extinguisher was used to get the magnum, not the AK. But yeah, leaving the extinguisher behind is a pretty common mistake.
Here. Played it again last year and did the same thing again :D
I did too, but I'd say that's more the player's fault than the game's. Assuming you'll never need the fire extinguisher again is a careless mistake.
@@joshuanelson6795 Yep, if the game "doesnt ask you" to get rid of the item because its useless, you should always keep it with you in one way or another.
@@Pretzelcoatlus woops, typo. fixed now.

I'd give it B rank for being fun overall but held back by noticeable flaws.
>the game is rather difficult
????????
It's by far the easiest of the classics.
Nemesis is such an awesome villain, he makes RE3 for me. I'm dying for a remake.....!
Zero was also probably one of the best looking titles in the series with some interesting mechanics
@@12ealDealOfficial That's an apt description. The game is indeed opressive.
I am a bit disappointed that you didn't really like this one. CVX and REmake and definitely my favorite Resi games. I don't remember that cheesy ending theme though. Possibly because I played Code Veronica X instead? I'm REALLY looking forward to your take on REmake.
That cheesy sega music is on dreamcast version.
CVX is objectively one of the worst RE games. Great OST though.
You forgot to mention the weirdly out-of-place one on one fight cutscene between Chris and Wesker after the final boss
It's like five whole minutes of slow-motion crap lmao
That scene is in CVX version. Only in that one Claire meets Wesker.
the tyrant fight literally forced me to restart the entire game because i had 0 ammo and no health
Same but I just gave up on the game at that point. Felt so screwed over I had no desire to start over
@@Uzaair Oh trust me i didnt try playing the game again until years later when i downloaded the PS4 Port
I had literally 5 softlocks in this
Me and my counsin tried to beat this game for like 3 years
We screamed in happiness when we did it and open a Coke to celebrate
The idea of going back into an area after its token Resident Evil self-destruct and trying to traverse the wreckage was interesting, but my main issue with it is that it feels like you could have survived it as some areas were almost completely untouched by the explosion. But needing to re-acquire the blue plate key item previously left by Claire believing it was no longer useful is also a good example of subversion with how in the RE games your character somehow always knows when a key item is no longer needed.
Kept us waiting, huh?
Big Boss? Is that you?

Code: Veronica is weirdly like Sonic CD (compared to Sonic 2) in terms of its development: it's clear there were some ideas implemented from the sequel that was in development simultaneously but it also lacks some of the things that mainline sequel did. The thing that Code: Veronica doesn't have that Resident Evil 3 introduced (and which Zero and REmake retained) which I missed the most... was the ability to move freely on staircases. You can't stop midway and shoot down or up at zombies or expect enemies to shuffle up or down steps after you. That was a really cool thing in parts of REmake.
The funny thing is that the enemies and zombies can move up and down the stairs freely but the player doesn't.
They didn't know the MT framework Engine too much at the time, the opposite of the old engine of Re1/2/3 and Remake1/∅
Love this series, and love this channel. Desperately trying to fill the void in my life that 2 Best Friends left, and this definitely helps.
That bit with the zombies coming out of the ground was the scariest shit I had ever seen at age 6
Great video man.
its kinda hilarious but im actually finished replaying code veronica few days ago, still one of my favorite RE games.
its a fucking great RE game
Wow!
What a perfect timing to watch your video, I've just finished the game for the first time like 5 minutes ago and now I have only one Resident Evil game left to play and that's number 4!
Now I remember ! That laugh Alfred makes sounds exactly like that screech yoko Ono made that pissed off chuck berry.
Great to start the year off with Road to the Rocket Launcher, thank you so much for making these!
YES! So happy to see a new episode out! Thank you! Looking forward to the next one already, ofc!
I might have cheered a little at the Blue Stinger reference. Looking forward to REmake :)
Yay, finally! I’ve watched the other videos so many times in anticipation.
Not mentioning the AMAZING soundtrack?!
Brisson Kévin All the Resi games have fantastic music
Agreed. I especially love the theme for Alexia's boss battle.
Best save room theme, and the Nosferatu boss fight music was awesome.

7:12 You can go through that corridor without any zombies. When you go through it first time around, trigger the shutters at the end of it, but don't raise them. When you come back over later on, the zombies won't be able to break the windows and come through.
CV is the game that needs a modern remake like Capcom did with RE2. I mean, I love RE4 but that game doesn't really NEED a remake like CV does.
Honestly I never havr the will to end the game, since I played for the first time around 8 years ago I started more than 10 games, but there's something that just makes me lost interest in it
You know, it's interesting that fate worked out the way that it did, with Nemesis being named RE3 as opposed to Code Veronica.
*JOKES ON YOU!*
Now you gotta do ReMake, Resi 0 and Resi 4!!!!!

How to defeat the Tyrant:
-Use the catapult
-Repeat step above until victory
I've definitely been waiting a long time for this one. Excited to see you get into the GameCube releases next!
Absolutely Fantastic. Cannot Wait to see more videos for Classic PS1/PS2 Games
It's FINALLY out! I missed you bro, and this series.
I remember reading somewhere that CODE: Veronica was meant to be the main entry for 3 and Nemesis was made as a side story, but due to time constraints and pushes for a new game they were swapped around.
I think they realized that CVX sucks and 3 was actually good so they flipped them.
Completely agree with this review. For Halloween last year, from September until late October (perhaps early November), I played Resident Evil 1-3, Gaiden, Code Veronica, and Outbreak file 2. Even though it definitely has its positives, Code Veronica was the only one I did not want to revisit immediately after.
been playing this on ps4 pro using ps now streaming, its a really good RE game that i missed back in the dreamcast days
This was like the first res game me and my mum played, her playing it. the plain boss legit screws her so much she had to restart the entire game again and still couldn't beat him on the plain. She still hasn't beaten it.
Still probably one of my favroute for pure nostalgia.
GamingBrit back at it again with that fresh new content, 2019 off to good start so far.
Veronica was supposed to be the next main entry, but I totally agree with you
My favorite Resident Evil. Uncompromising, but awesome.
I had to use the Grenade Launcher to get past Mr.BasicallytheIncredibleHulkwithaBattleaxe
It was frustrating... but beating it was a relief.

I'm the weirdo who calls this his favorite entry in the series but on my current playthrough I can definitely see the devs chose violent when they were developing those Bandersnatch fuckers.
The game is good despite its flaws, but the video made it look way worse than it is.
Super hyped, someone else has herd of Blue Stinger
I was watching Road to Rocket Launcher RE3 yesterday and here is Code Veronica YUH
Ooof, that was a lot of negativity. That hurt a little bit, not gonna lie.
When I just saw this video in my feed: "Uuh... Uuuuhhhh!" Been almost a year again, damn. Now let's enjoy this. :)
Was thinking of rewatching the old Re episodes and BAM you post this. Now I'll watch the old ones again after this.
Good stuff, well done! Haven't played Code Veronica myself I was curious what was special about it
16:16 go off, Mr.
He won't care about your tip. He dislikes the game, so why would he try to be good at it?
I've heard everything about this game, especially a lot of hate, but I'll always love it, and will always be one of my favorites. Still, I'd love a good remake of CVX.
I enjoyed the plot of Code Veronica a lot. The gameplay was okay, but I like to play the games to learn more about the lore and I got that from this game.
Tecnically speaking you can dodge the purple poison of the boss, the poison will spread based on where the wind is blowing, so you can predict where the poison will go by watching where the background snow is going.
Still annoing as hell though...
So glad I rewatched all the Road to the Rocket Launchers recently
Oh shit, I thought this series was dead! Glad to see it return.
Hm. Guess my first impressions of this game from playing some of it were pretty much spot on. Don't think I'll be finishing this one.
Could not have said it better! Code Veronica was the biggest chore of the RE’s
Using the bright borders around the video makes this impossible to watch at night on my phone lol
And thank you for that.
Sweet Late Christmas Present! Cheers good sir.
I'm not even really a fan of RE, but your video's on the series sure as hell do entertain =D
Yesssss! waited for this for ages!
Your back yeaaaaaaah
Glad you back.. love this series!
glad to see another TttRL ; u ;
WOOO! Missed you Charlie :)
I never got past the 'deposit all metal' bit. My game glitched and wouldn't let me through even if I had a 100% empty inventory, and I just never tried again.
Love your videos, keep up the good work
This was the first game Ruben Langdon worked on for Capcom.
Charlie can't escape Dante.
