This is one of my favorite videos concerning the Chevelle. I hope you continue to do more about the interior and other things to look for. Excellent info!!
@@hollyrockscorner6223 even though I have a 66 Gto for 10 yrs that supposedly scored 97 at Gto nats in 06 (had a 67 SS396) I had to run to the garage and check my rad cap which is the same as yours and correct for 3rd week May.
I had an L34 350 hp. A 396 yet it was a 402 CI from the factory. Came with everything the owner requested. Close ratio steering, Dayna Posi Rear end, bench seat, Rally wheels, M21 4 speed. One mean street machine. My friend had an L78 and after I gave him a ride he refused to race me saying I was much quicker. Joe Reaths mechanics told me not to touch a thing on the engine except for a 780 Holly and headers. I was the second owner with very low miles.
I have a 66 L78 Chevelle . You said the crankshaft pulley is a 3 groove ? When I bought this car nearly 30 years ago it was in rough shape but a lot of the under hood stuff was still there . It has a 2 groove cast iron pulley on the Crankshaft . Did you replace your fan with an electric fan ?
I have 3 1966 vehicles. 2 Chevelles and an El Camino. I never liked clones but now 66 Super Sport Chevelles are so expensive I won’t be able to have one and drive it unless it’s a clone. I have a 427 66 Chevelle and a convertible 66 and a 66 El Camino. My first from 1980 cost 1200 dollars. Now it’s 12 bolt posi is worth several thousand dollars.
Are those the correct Factory Headers ? Did you notice that when you turn on your park lights , they come on , but when you turn your head lights on , the park lights goes out , this is not a Electrical problem , this is how all 66 Chevelle cars work , I have Three 66 Chevelle cars , Two are True 138 Super Sport cars and one is a 136 Malibu
These cars never came with headers but I do have the original exhaust manifolds in the storage cabinet. And yes I did notice that with the lights my 1965 Chevy C10 does the same thing.
Well.....Not from the factory, BUT, I have documentation from the original owner of my 66 L78 that my car, which I purchased in 1975 for $600.00 was the dealers manager demo car (Suburban Chevrolet, Hopkins, MN). He bought it with appliance headers and manual cutouts which were both dealer installed. I have the headers still and the original pipes that were in the trunk with the original tags on them. My car is numbers matching and an oddball color combination. Cameo Beige, Aztec Bronze interior and a Tan vinyl top. There were several options that were dealer add ons, including the Nascar Air Cleaner and RH Mirror.@@jimthomas777
Good job! Wish you would do this for a 1969 Chevelle.

Thank you so much I appreciate I do a lot of research.
I love these detail videos.
Thank you I love the details as well I thrive on them actually knowing more and more about this car and doing the research

Was the flat spot on the valve cover because of the vacuum booster?
Yes it was and in 1967 the flat spot got much larger
How about the hood ground bracket on the cowl vent area , which no one ever has.
I'm not quite there yet I'll find it one of these days
What about the fan. I noticed the cooling fan was missing. What would be the correct fan for those as well as fan shroud?
Should be a five blade clutch fan. I have the plastic shroud on mine. But you could also get the metal finger guard version as well

Very nice what year was yours?

Yes I added the electric fans. It's very hot in Phoenix. The 3 groove pulley is correct for an L78. They can cost up to $700 for that one.

Yeah those 12 bolts are expensive. You can't find them for less than $2,500 now
@@hollyrockscorner6223 mine has a Moroso Brute Strength posi unit in it and special axles. It grabs going around corners because of the stiff springs.
Too much chrome finish on the valve covers?
Yes the original valve covers were flash chromed. So the original chrome finish would not look like show Chrome.
Argent means silver in French for Canadian workers
Where is the fan?
I'm still trying to find the correct one.

@@hollyrockscorner6223 , I know that the 66 Chevelle didn't come with Headers ,

No fan?
Still trying to find the fan and the Harrison radiator. Unfortunately those parts were missing when I bought the car.
