It’s weird. I played this game a lot as a kid and it’s got more in depth stats and mods than most games today. You can definitely see the trend with other souls games. I redownloaded 3 and silent line and I’m having a absolute blast trying out build ideas. Been nearly 15 years
Quality ages well
Right! Same here.
Also, my mind was blown to find out the portable versions had even more hidden parts, and even parts from past gens. Was SO stoked to find the gen 2 MK2 Karasawa in Silent Line, been making gen 3 builds with gen 2 Karasawa has been a BLAST.
@@abyssphantom6786 it’s great, I had no idea about more hidden parts on the PSP, I’ll definitely look into changing my game out. Glad to see other people enjoying 3, took me right back to my childhood.
When the guy is humming the level ost you know it’s going to be good.
It's so dang good, I can't help it.
When I first played AC3 and AC:SL, I would name my pilot "Earth Wing" and name my craft "Quake Sword" and the craft I used to beat the game and most of other missions was the 9999 tank build because I was obsessed with using the most health when I was younger.
Big beef for big fun
Seeing that 9999 was so glorious as a kid!
I also did the tank 9999 build in silent line XD I was young and I loved that goddamn build but my elder brother would always kick my ass with energy weapons and spider legs XD
Out of all people I've never expected to find the cf monster guide guy
@@franciscopadilla4844 It all falls together.
Thanks for the guide. Got into AC because of the announcement for AC6 and decided that 3 is a good one to start. Yeah.. already had 3 game overs barely getting money to upgrade my generator. I always lose at that test mission where a really powerful AC comes and destroys me in seconds. Hope I will get it this time
Switch controls to twin stick (X to lower analog R yada yada) , , learn to B-Hop. Weight is your second biggest enemy. Buy a Short Range (or shallow and wide) FCS and get the MWG 220 (500 round Slug Machine Gun) it’ll eat funds at first but it’s also an amazing crutch to learn the game around as you can get away using the mwg damn near for everything up to B Tier Arena
@@Pipes7472 wish i could use twin stick, been playing the psp version
@@eduardodias2073 I thought the PSP version of AC3 was twin stick? Weird I saw a Reddit post about it. Do you have a decent pc? If so you can “emulate” the PSP Version “that you own” and map the controls. That’s all I got for remapping.
@@Pipes7472 the psp has only one stick, and i've just starded on the franchise, been playing on my phone though lol
@@eduardodias2073 I completely forgot that the orginal PSP has only one stick. I own a vita and forget my bad
My strategy was to have all the ranges covered. A heavy duty long range, high capacity mid range and a decent sword. I liked the grenade launcher and the 1000round assault rifle.
New to the series, this is awesome for a beginner. I'm playing the PS2 version and doing good on missions but only get A rank. What's up with that?
Always glad to hear more folks getting into these games! So the game rates you based on a few things. First it's income, which is why S Rank builds and high end Arena characters usually have every weapons (they have no ammo cost). Second is speed, and third is any bonus objectives it wanted. Each mission has it's own stuff going on, but usually the big one will be your paycheck, since it's supposed to be a job review, after all.
Sometimes the mission lists bonuses, like how you can't S Rank the bridge destruction mission without sniping a couple of trains. Seems a bit pointless considering, but hey, the client must just be a terrible person.
Thanks so much for this! The hover build got me off my feet and comfortable enough to start messing around with parts and stuff in the arena.
Up to the Cs and having some trouble, might need to start doing missions now haha. Maybe try out the reverse joints you progress to.
ATM I think quad legs are a good fit!
Glad to help!
Ac3 has great music
Dang straight it does!
After playing AC6, I decided to check out AC3 portable and boy, I'm glad I did. There's now a new hacked version that adds two stick support to the Portable version
Armored cores are the one game I can definitively say my build and pilot skills made me almost unbeatable and I have 2 A.Cs that no one in the several neighborhoods that gamed ever beat.
I had a favorite iteration of the game. ... I think it was 3.
Mt spider tank high A.P , high attack and when piloted correctly never has to touch the ground. But you will want as the boost with spider legs on the ground can be devasting to your opponents. Versus mode was where it was at as a kid
I admit that I was mostly favoring middle weight humanoid legs. Somewhat slow and as much AP as possible used Linear Cannon, Karasawa and Moonlight. #goodtimesindeed
I know where you got that side to side swivel!! Not even sure if it's AC3, but there's a few missions where you fight some MT's to train their AI. At first they're crap but then they're actually quite difficult to beat. I leaned that swivel from them... then you have to take on LOADS of the bloody things.
Wait you mean the AI will learn how you play?
This is a great video. I am revisiting ac3 on stream soon to experience the story, so thanks for reacquainting me with the parts.
Glad to help, sorry for missing this comment for half a year!
I remember building an S-Rank Hit n' Run AC with Hover Bottom, small arms & body (ofc), machinegun back part and a submachinegun
Flamethrower/Orca/Parry Blade/Hover legs for early Arena clearing with fun. It's not optimal as it requires skill but it's so fun if you can learn to get good with it the skill you teach yourself outweighs the convenience of using other weapons as a new player.
And the Handgun + Howitzer is just dumb.
Limited range, and kinda clunky, but that would make for one hell of a speedrun. Issue with the parry blade is that you'd then have to worry about heat, ironically. They're the only weapon that heats up your own AC with every used. Usually it's not an issue, but for the starter internals, it ain't great if you take a tad too much plink. (Funnily enough did a Parry/Napalm run before, being a bee is fun!)
@@CoffeePotato This is more along the lines of a starter set up, much like how you did here. And this is a great starter guide, you don't just tell the player what to do you explain why and give context, and that's what I see alot of people not doing.
Giving people information, as opposed to instilling knowledge.
Also, few hours ago, nailing Ace for 4.5k AP midair with a Moonlight Tank strike is pure joy, especially when the Moonlight is slapped on as a joke and I was trying to fight with Zooks and Energy E.O.'s.
He just dropped to the ground exploding leaving me baffled, not only surprised my X+O landed but that the fight was OVER just like that. Had to watch replay to see how much AP he had before popping and it was about the strongest blade strike I can ever recall personally pulling off.
Without even building towards maximum blading potential either.
Have you ever tried to build an "M.T." AC? And try to make it as effective as you can while still building and playing as if it were a super MT?
Good guide! I'm on my way to start from AC 3 and get a save file all the way up to AC Last Raven and see what gives.
Good luck, and don't forget the ice cream scoop boosters in SL!
This is a cool guide.
TheSamuraiGoomba Well thank ya! I appreciate it!
Yeah, I'm playing AC3 for the first time and was looking for general tips. Your video is pretty much the best I've found on youtube for 3rd gen armored core general info. Your advice about hover legs was super helpful in getting a good early start.
TheSamuraiGoomba Glad to help man! Yeah, 3 and SL have a lot of useful options early on. Personally I love the hover legs in early third gen here, they let You bounce around with few downsides, while also making a lot of harder early missions, such as protecting the capsules, far easier. This is probably my favorite game, and I love to see people getting into it! Enjoy!
The hover legs really help since I suck at bunny hopping. I might as well zoom around instead, lol.
Started playing armored core today with 3 portable. Got S rank on the Layer 3 mission after an hour of save scumming, thought rushing would be the best idea but eventually got settled. Also swapped my strafe keys with my look left/right, those just really didn’t feel good.
As funky as the original controls are, there's a logic to them. You're usually better off moving your whole AC rather than aiming, especially since turn speeds and movement of all kinds can vary so much. Like the Rocket Only of the PSP games had almost no direct aiming as much as prediction shots. To each their own obviously, I'm only mentioning this because I've seen a few make that jump from "I made the controls better" to "why can't I turn fast enough?"
Just started playing today on my vita through adrenaline, fun game but when I load into the layer 3 mine mission the doors don’t open and won’t let me into the first space with enemies, any idea why?
Just started on the psp, loving it
Hey! Not sure if you're still responding to comments, but what do you think about the various Quad legs in the game?
Would you recommend any of them? By far they are my favorite aesthetically.
Yup, depends on what you're going for. Pretty drainy, but walking with a chaingun is fun.
@@CoffeePotato I would enjoy doing some setup where my arms and shoulder are just four massive guns pointing in whatever direction I face.
@@-ShiraZen- IIRC you can do that in Silent Line with the double chaingun for the back. Otherwise if you just equip two of the same back weapons, it basically just gives you double the ammo, as you can only fire one at a time. I am new to the series, though, so I could very well be wrong.
after the announcement of ac6, decided to go back and play a bit of ac3. Can anyone tell me what the drone machine gun thing is that keeps popping up and firing? I think I followed his build but maybe I missed something
It's the ORCA core.
I have my silver slim ps2 up and running and found a nice old TV. It has been awhile but I sitll have AC3 and this was just what I was looking for. Just a quick little refresh. I have 2 and 3 but none of the expansions and they currently run like 200 CAD, but their just something fun about building your own little death robot.
Still holds up.
Grinded AC3 and silent line while recovering from surgery.
3 and SL were peak AC, 4 and for answer just kinda felt more like DMC than AC.
Excited for 6.
As someone who only played AC 4 growing up. I bought 6 on release. Got all the trophies. Replayed ac4 and for answer on 360. Beat ac3 a few days ago. I prefer the more grounded boosting and limited time in the air boost unless you really spam QB. Feels more weighty. AC6 feels more grounded. I liked it a lot.
I also liked Ac3 a lot. The part designs in Ac4 were killer though.
@soopwizsoopwiz343 so far ac 6 feels like what 3 wanted to be.
The moment I got to the main menu I knew this game was good and the boost being just a mode makes ac design so much easier as a concept.
The gameplay loop feels alot like a combo of 3 and 4.
I fuckin dig it it feels like I'm playing my old ps2 every time I boot it up.
@@lotekchapra AC3, AC6, Silent line, AC2 and Nexus are my favorites so far. Playing 9 breaker now and its ass.
If it werent for your build tips, I wouldn't have got as far as i was in AC3 right now, the game is really fun even after ive finished it, im still improving my gameplay as im still an amateur at certain builds and opponents
Glad to help!
I Just started playing the AC series and I suck ass at this game so this video helped alot thank you
Glad to help!
I got into Armored Core from AC6 and i'm just now starting to play ac3, Toothpaste was the name i gave to my AC in 6 lol
Your bot is overpowered for single player mode I guess. The real challenge is building them for versus mode. There are 2 kinds of bots..... single players and versus. Versus separates the mechs from the boys lol
Been a while but ranged lazer blade that fired the circular saw blade, and the 12 shot laser bolt sniper rifle, with the back mount locking missles and the lock on system and antenna that allows you to track enemy through buildings and lock enough times to fire all of your homing missles in one go is the best attack set up. Then you build a bot with heavy legs... preferably spider for weight capacity, high AP pool, ground movement speed and agility, coupled with the best power cell, a great booster, great heat sync, and arms built to aim offeres the best robot assassin if you can learn to pilot it.
I love these games. They do everything they do amazingly. Build, and the ability to understand how to pilot what you build, coupled with smart decision making while piloting . It's a game that should be on part 200 by now and your bots and parts should carry over from part one all the way to for newest version
One thing I hope to see in the new game is electromagnetic feet and hands for attaching to walls for sniper positions or whatever tactical advantage you come up with for the feature. Armored cores are a masterpiece of a game series but gaming can do so much more now that I'd be happy with armored core 1 graphics and a bunch of new crazy features and abilities for the mechs.
Well yeah, it's an early S Rank guide.
What's the thing you keep calling a chainsaw? Can't seem to find it anywhere. Sorry to ask a question on a verrrry old video lol
All good, I should do more of these, and that would be the Orca Core part. It has an EO, which will be on your L3.
What is the weapon that you are using in 11:01? I've been trying to find it for hours but not sure what exactly that is.
That's the Orca Core, using the EO system
sorry if you've already been asked, but what is that floating energy mg you have equipped?
EO from that core.
@@CoffeePotato thank you!
Somehow I missed this series back in the day. Just started playing AC3 though! It seems pretty fun. Question though - I'm playing the PS2 version and this looks like the PSP...is the PSP version better?
In most ways, it is. It's easier to emulate, or the natural hardware is more convenient than a PS2 and TV. It has more content, there's various bug fixes, but the PS2 games look slightly better.
@@CoffeePotato Thank you for the reply! Does it do 60 fps emulated? Started on the PS2 version emulated and wondering if it'll take a FPS hit if I go with PSP instead.
Allready beat AC3 Portable and 100% it today(Well, 96% really i think the 4% is getting the Blade Range OP-I from Exile which i regret fighting him without OP-I) and right now im starting Silent Line with all the Parts transfered lmao
I know I live in the right time line cause I can play this game at absolutely amazing performance (by which I mean I forget it's not original hardware) on my switch for the first time. I can't believe I've been sleeping on armored core, thank God for that ac6 announcement.
Hell, now you know how I felt playing it on a PSP over a decade ago. PS2 emulation seemed impossible outside of the PS3, and suddenly they're like "we brought it back 100%, and added DLC, and it fits in your pants. Boom."
@@CoffeePotato technically I'm emulating the psp version so I had to do some extra fiddling with the controls in PPSSPP and ac3 itself, but once I got that this game really opened up for me
@@sazo1st It's one of those you'll find more and more details in as you go through again and again.
Do you know if the optional part that reduces EN cost while firing works on the EO cores?
It does, if makes the EN MG viable.
Just playing ac for the first time with ps2 ver of ac3, didnt get used to controlling this with analog controller, didnt know which companies should i trust in the missions, but yeah its pretty cool game, thanks for the build tho ;).
"Give it a cool name...like Toothpaste" hahahaha
Gotta keep those namings fresh, don'tcha know?
What's the control mapping you're using ? I want to move smoothly like that
Standard PSP controls. Folks may laugh, but that control scheme is legit.
@@CoffeePotato so it's default setting ? I need more practice then
@@renoldhekmatyar Yup, and everyone just has a different thing that works for them. Many folks remap to dual analogs, and the "Type A" scheme later games use. I just prefer to lead stuff into shots, rather than aim, so this sort of tiered pancake circles world view of the PSP control scheme works well.
@@CoffeePotato the thing is I used the default setting when starting the game, it feels weird at first but I try to get used to it. But then I saw some video of people playing pvp and he using custom setting for the control. The left analog is full for control with left and right to move, not for camera. I did the same with analog only and it feels faster and easier for control but I don't know why something's bugging me. It did made the maneuver easier but I need aiming while moving too. Then I realized I can do that using the default. Now I'm wondering if I should back to the og setting or not, because I see that you can move like that with the og setting
@@renoldhekmatyar It's just a batter of picking what's mentally cozy to remember, and then just doing stuff until it's muscle memory. I personally found that challenge runs with a consistent build were the biggest slingshot to getting good at it. Especially just trying to win with the starter AC. You learn pretty quick to take the minimal amount of movement to get stuff done, which translates up well when you actually have an AC that doesn't suck
early fighting in the arena with gaitling is fun ^^...
Dang right it is
12:15
what is this for some back weapon?
its from the new core armor?
Exceed Orbit from the Orca Core.
Whats that floaty thing you get half way through and how can I get it?
Exceed Orbit, all Mirage cores use it instead of the Over boost function.
@Coffee Potato Thanks. I'll probably use a mirage core then!
You started by building the kind of AC I always do during mid game and ended with what I usually have in the beginning of the game
I always go extra fast and heat weapons so the enemy is always losing health
True, but the goal was to build towards a simple and effective no cost build that can be slapped together in a few minutes.
@@CoffeePotato sure it is a solid build for the beginning of the game
It's funny that I usually make the reverse XD
I wanted to try an armored core game for the first time, so I fired up AC3, got thrown into the shop and said "I have no idea what's happening"
So I found this video since its the closest thing to an armored core build guide online
I watched it
And I have no idea what's happening lol
Any chance of explaining why all this stuff is good lol, AC6 just got announced so there will probably be a bunch of people looking for something to help them figure things out but the thisisgoodbuythis thisisamazingdontneedit thisisgoodbuythis thiswasgoodlastmissionbutsellitnow thisisgoodbuythis is making my head spin
🤣
For a lot of the stuff he scrapped, I think he was essentially saying "this is a good part in general, but not for the build I'm featuring".
I also started with AC3 just yesterday, but it's a relief to know the buy and sell price are the same; you can infinitely swap out, buy, and sell parts without worrying about losing money.
The biggest money loser I've seen is taking damage and using up too much ammo (in missions, specifically).
I'll have to give that a go soon!
Oh you're doing psp. i'm wondering why my UI is completely different from yours. Also i got the A rank in the test and didn't get any volars. alas
It's not the rank, you need near perfect accuracy, and to keep firing regularly. I believe it was...100%, but fewer shots in PS2, but 95% and at least 30 shots or something in PSP. Just grab a rifle and pop a shot every few seconds.
I got 41 shots and 100 accuracy and it still said D. But i also did the campaign a little so I think i made up for the money selling the legs would have brought in. thanks for this@@CoffeePotato
@@krinkle8 Did you check your emails? You should have them.
Having never played an AC game before, trying to get into 3 with no experience is frustrating. I guess Dark Souls was the same, but man I feel so stupid with this game. I have a Destroy Naire bridge mission instead and no secret parts I'm losing my hair over this 😅
They're more alike than they seem. Similar learning curve. The secret to the part is to destroy one monorail when clearing one side, then slide over to the other, which should show up right before you hit the last one. Just use those 20 seconds to burn it. Congratulations, you're probably on a list now.
@Coffee Potato damn brother I was not expecting a reply from you so long after the video was published. Thanks a bunch, imma give it another go 🙏 ❤️ as frustrating as it is, I can't drop it. Very much a soulslike in that sense atleast 😅

How to get that energy turret pod mini robot?
Any Mirage Core has that.
That's hella great
Are you playing this on a vita or emulator?
Vita
You didn't do the death trick to unlock the hidden upgrades.... not so op after all, eh?
That's AC2, AC3 replaced it with the OP-I unlock sidequest.
@@CoffeePotato Oh shit I forgot AC3 was the one that changed to that. How did you get that OP-I again?
@@TooBigToHide You unlock the fight with Exile in the arena, aka "basically beat the game", at which point they send you the part. It does nothing at first, but gets bonuses as you do hidden challenges in missions, like killing secondary bosses.
@@CoffeePotato Man... I forgot about all of that!! I gotta find a emulator to play this on my laptop!
try playing again, using only energy weapons you'll save soooo much $ and be able to unlock more alot sooner.
You don't spend money in the arena, and unlocking a bunch of parts is faster than ammo savings for an early boost. The idea of this video was just to get to an energy based S Rank Speed Build in a few minutes.
I play on a emulator and I can't get it past 30% average FPS and this gameplay looks like I'm on some hard crack
Which version are you playing?
@@CoffeePotato oh I'm just playing the PS2 but when I checked psp it ran smoothly
@@carlosiyanaszca Yeah, just play the PSP version. It's got more content, and the PS2 version is a bit of an emulation monster for no apparent reason. I've never had a setup that could handle it until the Steam Deck.
How doable is this in the PS2 version
Even easier, because you can fire one shot in the target shooting test, wait until it ends, and start the game with Volars
no where near what you would call overpowered in AC3, go for vert missiles, missile arms, support verti launchers, WS3/1 FCS and work your way through the arena, SNSK Legs, NER core, heaviest generator, lightest rad, FLEET / MARE boosters, hover legs are the absolute worse legs to choose even early one, they have the worse stats for everything. BARACHETA will decimate that AC you built, mobility/turning and defense in AC3 and silent line is a must
Ok, then.Wiped barchetta with rockets on the most garbage AC that would come to mind...before carrying it through to the rest of third gen. This humble little thing is for S ranks in under 10 minutes, not going full try hard for baby's first multiplayer match. 🤣
Should look up the Javelin Arena Rocket Only series for how much prediction can carry.

What emulator you playing this on?
Probably ppsspp since its the portable ver not ps2
PPSSPP, the only real one 🤣
What’s the difference in unlocking stuff between the psp and the PS2?
For AC3, it's mostly the same, but there's tweaks for it to make more sense. The 50% mags allow a hit, I think, but the target practice one requires getting a kill every 4 seconds instead of just 100% accuracy. For the remakes, they generally seemed to go out of their way to have them make more sense. If anything you may get a part on accident instead of grinding forever. Oh, right, the escort convoy thing is more forgiving too.
What I never understood was why this game looked significantly worse than 2.
Originally, I thought the same. It's some visual trick, but I think the more angular designs make it seem that way. I'm not sure other than that, but I always felt that played far better.
@@CoffeePotato It definitely benefited from the additional depth and mechanics.
@@MadJackChurchill1312 I think its because this is the psp version not the ps2 one
Colour scheme isn't as varied since most missions are set underground while AC2 has very colourful environments, also there's a lot more happening in many AC3 missions
