I see now why the project was called *The Starry Expanse*
I especially love "how" they "solved" the mile-plus long bridge that connected Crater and Dome islands.
They did a stunning job with the remake/expansion of this game! My favourite areas were Ghens Lab, Ghens 233rd age, Catherine’s Prison Island. I also love the music that plays in that area.
I’m excited to keep exploring and reliving one of my favourites games
A truly amazing and incredible video. :D
They, absolutely did, a great job and you can feel the passion, that they had making this. :D
Thank you very much. :D
That you for watching! I had a blast playing it
the boiler is for creating paper pulp that gehn uses to make paper for books. the minecart takes the wood from jungle island and dumps it into the woodchipper to prepare it for the boiler. the pipe you're walking through is the drain of the boiler. pretty much nothing in the game is there for no reason, it's nuts
Yeah it’s crazy the detail
You said it seemed there was no reason for things but there are. This is where Cyan tends to shine. Everything is mostly explained if you read the texts/books in-game (which you're skipping, wouldn't recommend skipping) and the other blanks are filled by the other games and books. The boiler for example, if you followed the story from the initial rotating room with the scarabs, starter book, and his lab. Gehn is trying to make linking books, you can see he chopped the trees on Jungle island, took them to boiler island where you see the wood chipper beneath the minecart, making wood chips. The boiler is for boiling the wood chips to turn it into paper pulp, which he then processes in his lab into paper for his books.
Yeah was just skipping the books for the gameplay video. Normally read them when I play for myself. Tbh I totally forgot most of the boiler part stuff. I think the journals are essential for the myst game experience. I think I was too eager to explore and see all the things they changed might read the books in the next play through. Thanks for all the info was really interesting
@@cursedblake That's great to hear! I was like, oh no! He's missing the cool lore and details xD So, definitely worth reading :3 I always love discovering the bits that seem unimportant at first glance but turn out to have meaning and purpose. The world feels real
Was looking forward to your reaction! I’m almost done with it and it’s phenomenal. I love all their changes tbh as a longtime fan.
Thanks dude! I really enjoyed making this
Hammerspace is canon to Myst now.
Well, thank you man for all the nostalgia dose in your videos and for informing us about what's up
Thanks so much! I have a heap of fun reliving these games and talking about them! I’m glad you have been enjoying them
38:15 the orange rings are heaters, because riven water has bacteria that makes it repel from heat (i guess the big boiler filters/kills the bacteria)
Yeah! In the next episode I read through all the journals and was like oh that’s what that was ! Thanks for the comment I really appreciate it!
Also I got that glitch with Ghen as well. If you click it the second time it works perfectly. The first time messes up .
Yea this game has loading issues, especially the first time you do things.
Yeah it’s a bit weird and jarring but still loving the show experience
I've always felt that excited every time I played a new Myst game.
This feels like a new myst game for me
Hey another little change with the keyboard - w moves forward, but shift-w runs... so W (capital) runs. So you can caps-lock to toggle run permanently, which makes shift-capital-W walk. Thought that was neat!
that is super cool!
Haha awesome
They outdid themselves, this is the first they've fully succeeded in getting down the look and vibe of the original CG but in real time
Not to knock the Myst remake but it still didn't quite rebottle it the way this one has
Yeah that’s how I feel about it also. It feels like they have remade the game but made it different enough so people can enjoy the challenge again
I just prefer the 360 nodes, prerendered graphics myst 3 and 4 had.
For a remake that mostly looks even more realistic and beautiful than the original, to start you out with a very cartoony looking Atrus just shows how bad of a move this was. It completely takes you out of the experience and makes you feel like you are watching some stupid kids cartoon. The movement of his lips don't even match the words coming out of his mouth. Couldn't they have had FMV or like real human textures displayed on top of the 3D model or something like that? They really should have learned their lesson and at least given the option to see FMV. Not everyone is playing this in VR. Then immediately after that when I start walking around, everything is shimmering strangely. The stuff on that island in the distance, the rails going over the ocean, the moving shadows of the moving grass on the ground right next to me. So because everything else looks so amazing, it these strange bits just stand out to me even more and pull me out of the experience.
Ok I fixed the shimmering. For some reason it kept changing the "super sampling quality" to the very bottom "ultra performance". But now for some reason its actually staying at "quality" when I set it to that.
Also, the screenshot tool is retarted. It captures the images blurry, not the same as what you see on the screen, and can end up making the clues unreadable when you go to reference it in the screen shot later.
I wouldn’t say it looks more realistic than the original, but yeah it’s really beautiful.
Don’t like CG characters :(
