Exile may be one of the easier Myst games, if not the easiest, but they completely nailed the aesthetic of each age. Each has a consistent theme and atmosphere, Voltaic is dry and rocky with a steampunk aesthetic, Amateria is damp and mossy with an ornate Japanese aesthetic, Edanna is like being in a tropical rainforest inside a tree as a kind of natural greenhouse, Jnanin is a like a windswept sandy island off a temperate coast with an art-deco aesthetic, and Narayan has this cold, alien sci-fi feel which fits the strangeness of the age. It's clear the designers put a lot of effort into making each age feel different and unique, possibly more so than any other Myst game. Myst IV managed it again with Spire but arguably dropped the ball with Haven and Serenia, they just don't have that same level of consistency, elements feel more jumbled together like the first Myst game.

Why was the 3d so good for its time?

It's so much fun, and actually canonical

I haven’t really seen this game all that much, so I haven’t been clued into the story. Are the bosses only Tzeentch themed or are there other chaos bossses? (I.E. Slaanesh, Nurgle, the other one whose name I forgot)

Hmmm, as good as this is and as much as I love Riven, this remake lacks the realism of the original.

Now that a Riven remake has been released where you can play in 3d or VR maybe we will see Exile get a remake in a few years as well.

This game has such a niche nostalgia for me. My teacher spent half the school year letting us play it instead of normal lessons when I was 9/10 and it was an experience. I love this game so much.

I just prefer the 360 nodes, prerendered graphics myst 3 and 4 had.

I want more games with the 360 node, prerendered, point and click gameplay. I never really liked the 3D versions (myst 5), and Uru was just a bit of a pain, control-wise, to play.

38:15 the orange rings are heaters, because riven water has bacteria that makes it repel from heat (i guess the big boiler filters/kills the bacteria)

Riven may be the best Myst game, but Exile is a great vibe, basically like Myst 1 for gameplay. I was able to complete all of exile at age 7 except for the Narayan puzzle

I remember it being quite fascinating and immersive. I'll be replaying as soon as I get through the 2021 Myst and the most recent Riven. Definitely worth it 👍
