Thanks for reacting to this! I tried to find similar replacement footage from the original for the new stuff in the remake. I definitely think the original graphics hold up to the remake even all these years later. There's some details missing from the remake that were in the original and vice versa.
@@cursedblakeI played the demo, and stuff like Gehn's throne on the first island is moved. It looks like the new one is trying to be a bit less obtuse, and the only redesigned puzzles in the demo are ones that originally had you close to the ground. Those are changed to make is more accessible in VR.
Obduction, also from Cyan, was full 3D and still used FMVs for characters and holograms. They were actually pretty neat, and seemed to be in stereoscopic 3D when playing Obduction in VR.
4:56 the crack in the ocean isnt in the original. There is an explanation for it though. On a dev stream, it was revealed that someone add steam effects to the ocean beause it looked cool, and one lady on the dev team went "that doesnt make sense, riven's water moves away from heat". So basically riven now has steam vents that parts the water
I agree about the FMV and the linking book-which I wonder if they did because they felt that they didn't have the resources to make burning look good in a 3D environment? Though I believe there were creative workarounds they could've explored, such as making the burning effect either 2D or have the transition burn toward the inside of the link rather than toward the player. As for FMV, maybe by next version they can use ML for 3D characters.
I was tempted to play the demo but really wanted to wait, cos I don’t want to be restrained to a demo area! Only a couple of days now. But understand why others play it!
The original Riven is a masterpiece in every respect, the new version has a huge benchmark to step up to... New puzzles and relocated puzzles ARE in the mix on the new version. The CGI sucks which is a shame and the slightly 'Woke' intro is a very sad sign of the times. One very minor detail is missing from the new version... The first Maglev trip from Temple Island to Jungle Island: Look at the running rails as the car leaves Temple Island, there is a very slight (and very realistic) quiver on the rails which is missing from the new version, THIS is the level of detail that was put in the original game, this and other small details like this are what made it seem so real.

I thought it was too amazing not to react to it! Thanks for making it!
They have already stated that they are in fact adding new puzzles. New areas. New characters.
Ooo awesome I didn’t realise ! Thanks for letting me me know ! My old walkthrough isn’t going to work now 😝

Oh interesting! I should go watch that dev stream at sompoint. That’s for the info!
Some areas I can’t make my mind up if I prefer the remake or og prerendered version, but overall the remake looks stunningly beautiful
It looks amazing!

Woke intro? Tf you on about?
what "slightly" woke intro? Citation needed.
I guess they mean the fact that "one man prison" was replaced with "one person prison" which seems to have mildly upset some people.
Og when cho steals the book from you at the beginning the bars don’t shake in the remake.
