I saw Battles during Primus’ “A Tribute to Kings” tour. To say that I was impressed would be a massive understatement. Walking into the venue, I expected an alt rock band that had maybe one good song in their entire set. This is the first time I stood at a concert wanting more from the opening band. They closed their set with this song, and it’s genuinely one of the best songs I’ve ever seen live. Shoutout to Primus for getting me into Battles I guess.
Fuck yeah dude! Love Primus. That's really cool that your introduction to Battles was at a Primus show. I saw Primus at Red Rocks just outside Denver back in like March. And they put on an amazing show as always. Them, Electric Wizard, and Grizzly Bear are my favorite live band experiences...Anyway; Battles, Primus, Electric Wizard, T Rex, 13th Floor Elevators, Grizzly Bear, Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, and Mastodon. Between those bands basically all of my needs are met. I do listen to stuff outside of that. But 90% of the time it's one of those bands. Throw in Wu Tang, Mf Doom, Vince Staples, or Esoteric if I want to listen to some hip hop. Which I am in the mood for sometimes. Anyway...Realized I ignored that genre lol.

+Vincenzo Rimola not for the entire song. 'Polymeter' that means many-meters, the meter changes. Keep practicing them digits!
Honestly, I think La Di Da Di is their best album yet. They aren't chained to the idea of making their songs catchy with vocals anymore. Just sounds like they're having fun.
I agree - its like these are older guys - veterans - and they're tired of making conventional music - this definitely requires a few spins - but I love this song - have it on continuous repeat.

So I was watching, waiting the whole time, really vibing to this amazing buildup that had me on the edge of my seat, ready to just completely lose my shit when they all actually went in and smashed it. So they're building and building, and I'm like OH SHIT this is gonna be too fucking real, and the flute part comes in and I'm just thrumming, feelin it. It gets faster and faster and the drummer is really goin in, sweating and pounding away, getting ready to really tear shit up, and then-- AND THEN THE SONG JUST FUCKING ENDS. IT'S FUCKING OVER. The Battles is that Dad Garage Band that was actually good, yet still embarrasses their children.
it's just Battles kid.
Are you embarrassed about getting old?
Ian, your comment doesn't make any sense, mate. Something is 'good' and yet embarrasses people?
Would you please explain what you mean? :-)
"The Battles" that's such a dad thing to say. "Hey son, do you want to listen to the Battles?"
haha true
Saw this the first time while on LSD. Seen it sober about a thousand times since. Awesome.
Glad to see visionaries and artists still do exist
Taking acid while watching their performance in Laneway, when I close my eyes, the visual for this song is 8bit Japanese retro pictures.... Images like Tokyo tower, ninja, fujiyama, shinkansen, koi fish... I love it.
sounds like your acid was most likely made by Toyota
Oh spot on! Nice one
I don't even care if you made that up. It sounds like a good time.
You may have seen John Stanier make orange juice before, but never like this!
WOW! Just amazing! The way all these instruments bind together is fantastic! Big thumbs up!
On my running playlist. Never tire of it.
