The school parts were the scariest for me. Also I can't help but think we are visiting all the places where the priest molested Jessica (classrooms, offices, the pool bathrooms), which makes it all even more horrifying. x(
no Blake just ran through the pool bathrooms to escape from the priest. There's this reddit page that explains all of these scences. Example: Blake ran through the pool with jessica in his hands to escape Mr.whatever, he ran through the pool bathroom to find that the exit was locked, he then tried the other bathroom exit but it was also locked.
Skyrogue19. Because it happen exactly one after other. They are reversed.... the first school scene is exactly the last.....and the last is the first .....HUH ?😂😂😂😂
Notice how the Father Loutermilch monster does a gesture with his hand similar to masturbation? It somehow symbolizes his dark and sinister desires for Jessica. Since he is also a priest, he is lead to believe that when he killed Jessica by throwing her off the stairs, breaking her neck in the process, that it was God who took her life and not him. After that he even tried to cover up the murder by telling Blake a lie, then he covered up the murder as a suicide. If you played the school recordings backwards, you'll hear Loutermilch's voice in a journal like fashion; in one recording you can hear he confessed through a prayer about his murder, then he thinks he is absolved of his sins after that prayer. This game has a lot of meaning and backstory.
Huh? No priest thinks that, he is just a pervert and an evil sick man who hides and uses his profession for evil, same as any Dr lawyer, politician or police officer who does the same
I can't be the only one that school scenes gave me more than horror. It breaks something inside. When you are child, you are vulnerable, pure, innocent and nearly everything in life might get out of your control although none of them are your fault. Game gives that impression perfectly. 44:10 , 6:34 , 5:451:04:40 and other details are really tragic. Some games are piece of art.
43:10 was honestly my favorite scene from the whole school scene parts, when the chat said turn around i probably looked at the screen for like a good 30 seconds before i actually did.
I think school was way creepier than the asylum from the first game. It's much more erie when theres just one really horrofying demon out to get you, and empty schools at night feels sureal. I think father Loutermilch and his demon was scariest and most distubing character in whole outlast series
There's something so somber to these scenes, like a forlorn melancholy that's hard to explain. The snow outside, the loneliness of it and the story of tragic, crushed love.
For a game that's so horrific and brutal there's something oddly beautiful about this story. All these themes of trauma and guilt and forgiveness form such a wonderful narrative that you rarely see in gaming.
Gameplay And commentary no The priest pushed her down the stairs and Blake saw and then the priest hung Jessica to make it look like she hanged her self
I guess this really isn't as cool to people outside the states because this is *exactly* how catholic schools look in America. It's insane the details they got like the posters and the student projects hung up.
The only thing I got scared in the whole game, I'm not even talking about others they're not scary being chased is not scary anymore but this school athmosphere is just making me so uncomfortable
The rest of the game is fun and scary, but this school literally felt like being in hell. When you walk through a door or something and then BAM you're in the school, its a totally different atmosphere immediately. Really really disturbing and unsettling
Oh man, ever since I've known this unique backstory it keeps bothering my emotions. The Jessica story causes my brain to pump out sympathy hormones damn. This story haunts me everytime I sleep. So unique. 10/10
Completely agree with your opinion. As for me, this is the scariest part of outlast (both parts). Insane music, monster and atmosphere. I have no words...
Exactly I love the first game to death, but there is something with one demon chasing after you in a school at night that scares me more than a bunch of lunatics in a asylum.
This game would have been way too small if it took place in the school only. But i have to say the school parts were without a doubt the scariest gaming moments I‘ve ever had! And the only, very, truly scary parts of this game
forget the whole Jessica thing to begin with... these school scenes with that demon thing were the most terrifying i've ever experienced in a game in YEARS. i remember the first time i played it, after you saw Jessica hanging and went to the door to find it locked. i stood there and just turned a bit and noticed something was wrong with my shadow. i must've spent several minutes just turning quickly so i could get a glimpse of it and confirm there was SOMETHING wrong... then i decided to head back and had the jump scare, which ACTUALLY scared me. the bathroom, the library maze, the staircase... that fucking demon thing was actually horrifying and the scripting for its stalking of you was amazing.
"We're not alone here.." - Jessica. Ain't that the truth Jessica, ain't that the truth. Not the sort of not alone I like either. Awesome what they did with the school part, terrifying
I feel like, at first, the developers decided this game to be an indoor oriented, just like the first game was, but they changed their mind to an outdoor type of game and they didn't want to delete the school parts so they threw it in the game and made a plot out of it.
Honestly, I think the pedophile priest trope is so cliche. but then again it's hard to get unique ideas these days. So jessica fell down the stairs then the priest hung her to cover it up?
I don't think that's what happened. The priest abused her in school and she since Blake didn't arive in time to help her, she ended up feeling like she had nobody. Her dad was no help to her either. With her dad and the priest making her life constant hell, she ended it herself. This is also why Blake blames himself for her death. He felt like he could have saved her, but wasn't able to be there enough for her even though he tried.
This was the thing that will stick with me the most in Outlast 2. I felt so bad for Jessica after I finally understood what had happened to her. The Father guy messed with her and made her life a living hell, to the point where she committed suicide. She thought she had no one because Blake was forced away by the Father and no one else was there. I'm really happy for the ending scene with them praying. Really wraps up this part of the story completely. Also for people confused like I was, this is all happening in reverser order. Starts with Jessica having committed suicide, ends with Jessica being attacked by the priest. "I keep coming back earlier!" is what confirms this for me,
nukehobo it's actually worse. When the Father guy tells Blake to leave, he tries to rape Jessica, and when she puts up a fight the Father guy drops her down the stairs, killing her. The Father had clearly been trying to or had been raping her for a while, too, since Jessica begs for Blake to stay with her, and Blake not staying with her gives him guilt. Not only that, but the priest had tried to cover up the incident as a suicide attempt, and many people would believe it as it's suspected her dad also abuses her or treats her in a way that has her scared of him. And then the Father guy guilt trips Blake, making him think it's his fault.
What evidence do you have that he tried to rape her? There's not that many implications that he does. I've been doing a lot of research on these scenes and there hasn't been anything showing he attempts to rape her. There's more evidence that he would just abuse her mentally and physically. The only thing that could imply rape is his demon form that is like a weird tongue monster.

So I wasn't fooled when he tried to manipulate me into leaving. I also used my Kung Fu skills to knock that sucker out, long enough for Jess and I to get the police and tell the truth behind the death of our friends. While Loutermilch was being arrested, I decided to let Jess live with me, for I knew that her father was a very bad parent. On our way there, we both confessed our feelings for each other. And with that, we stayed together, forever
The most terrifying part of the game, the music too! It's terrifying because situations like this happen in real life, even as we speak. I can't even comprehend how people who have been through this sort of thing must feel, etc. It's heartbreaking! 😢 Also, at 38:22 and 38:32 you can hear Father Loutermilch's heavily breathing over the player's breathing too, which is also from the Father Loutermilch's disturbing cut voiceline content.
