Compared to my brother I feel like a loser. He has a zooology degree, he's boss of a big meat processing factory, he has a wife who's a math teacher and he has 3 kids. I only finished middle school, have mental issues and a cat. But when we're together he never makes me feel like a loser. He's very caring and we still have the same stupid and witty humor. I would've never said this as a kid, but I'm lucky he's my brother.
Same. My brother finished his IT degrees, was head hunted for a job in a foreign country, he's married and owns 2 houses. I'm 30, never finished my degree because of mental health issues and I work in a shit job. But he wants the best for me, and I want the best for him. I'm glad you have a good relationship with your brother too ❤
At some point in the transition to adulthood, some people no longer want to feel that role of being the younger sibling or baby of the house as a remaining identity.
My siblings and I Older brother - 7 years older than me Me Younger sis - 2 years younger than me Younger brother - 11 years younger than me We’re all super close! I think it was my parents forcing us to hang out growing up. Now we all have a sick relationship together.
Same with me and my siblings. Our parents were huge on sharing and taught us to always have each others' backs. And now into adulthood we're super close.
@@schnitzelthoughts2515 it’s awesome! When I was younger I hated it specially when I was in high school and my sister was still in middle school and I had to bring her every time I went out with friends lol
Similar to Ryan, my relation with my siblings is hella awkward. The biggest age gap is 9 years. I liken it to living with roommates. They exist and you see them around the house, but, you don't really do anything or know anything deep about them. It makes me deeply depressed everytime I think about it because it seems the time to develop that bond, that connection, has passed. It be way too awkward to try and force it now. To further rest Joe's case, I'm closest with my sibling who is only 1 year apart. I think the closeness in age, combined with the shared environment you grow up in, and affection or lack of, from parents, determines the bond you will eventually. We had a fucked up childhood, with conditional affection, and going through it together is sort of like a shared trauma bond.
I grew up with 2 sisters, 1 is 2 years younger and the other is 6 years younger. We haven't spoken in years. I am very close to my half sister who is 11 years younger. We live a couple hundred miles apart, but when we get together, we talk about everything with no judgement. My half brother is 17 years younger, lives in the country about a thousand miles away, spends all of his time with his wife, is reclusive, and doesn't have time for family. It bothers me that I am not close to my other siblings but it is what it is.
i’m not close with any of my siblings but they’re all 10-15 years older than me so by the time i was 8 i was an only child basically. and i was the only child of our parents. but we can hang out with each other and be friendly and loving, we just don’t have real close personal relationships
I feel you. I have one sibling almost 5 years apart that im pretty cool with, but i also have two siblings that are 40 and 35 (im 19). Im not as close with them because my older brother was an adult in and out of jail, and my older sister was in school and working most of the time. We will still see each other often and express love, but its also a lot of spending time with my nephew and nieces. One of my nephews and one of nieces are older than me by 1-2 years so i really grew up with them like cousins.
My older sister is very helpful, though at times she says things to me as if she thinks I am dumb. An example of this is: I am in charge of our parent's meds, yet my sister thought she needed to tell me that I needed to cut the tags off of the new clothes she bought for them as a gift, before I wash them. My older brother is helpful less often than my sister, yet he will sometimes show up if directly asked.
I really feel you on that, one of my older sisters is the same way. I try my best to not take it personally because I know she was unwillingly tasked with having to set examples and show me the ropes for two decades of our lives. Now she just can’t comprehend acting any other way towards me, and I just think it’s a price I have to pay for relying on her for so many years.
I asked the question because I love my younger sister and its been dope to see her slowly become a grown ass adult. We've had to learn to see eye to eye, set boundaries, and learn how to be in each others lives now that we have left our childhood homes and are making a life for ourselves. It's no longer big bro and lil sis. It's just bro and sis now :)
I coulda swore we’ve seen Joe’s brother on one of the channels. Didn’t he briefly work for Barbell Brigade? Edit: Just checked some old Barbell videos and yeah, definitely used to be part of their staff. No reason for Bart to be acting like he’s only met him once lol
Like Ryan, I’m not close with my older brother and we’re 3 years apart. We’re super different. We never got along or have any common ground. We don’t talk to each other. We only have a cordial relationship and not an actual relationship. My mom never try to encourage it. People would ask me, “How’s my brother?” I tell them, “I don’t know.” I have nephews, but I’m not close to them either.
It’s sad when I hear that people don’t have good relationships with their siblings. I have one older brother and when we were little he would always pick on me. And we would always fight. But as we got older we became essentially best friends. And till this day we are very close.
I’m the oldest out of 4, my brother is a year apart from me, my other brother is 2 years apart from me, my younger sister is 17 years apart from me 😂 but we’re all close and besties and talk daily in our group chat. I can’t imagine my life without them!
Ryan is fucking trolling now. First you talk about body building without Bart. Then having sex without the sex haver Anthony. Now sibling relations without Steve. Wtf
i can kinda relate to both nick and ryan's dynamics with their siblings lol it felt like i had 2 extra parents because my siblings are 8 and 7 years older than me. we don't really talk as adults because we don't have a lot in common plus i went through a lot of mental health stuff so i feel a bit like an outsider in my own family. i don't really talk to family in general too much especially about personal stuff because of what ryan mentioned about how his sister feels and how family can be really blunt about things (and they gossip too much for my liking)
Me & My 4 sisters have 10yrs 8yrs 9yrs & 4yr age gaps and we are veryyy close. Like to the point where we call eachother everyday on a video chat call, or individually just to check up on eachother. BUT thats just me and my family. Also we are mexican so that could play a role idk haha
I tried to hang out with my older brothers when I was little, but they kept pushing me away. As an adult, they want to get closer to me now, but I don't care anymore. They lost their chance with me. I'm fine with never talking to them again.
Siblings and I got split up young but I think because we all have big hearts we always made time for each other even our little half brothers share the same love and all 6 of us have the same stupidity 😂😂
Follow-up question: Would you guys, at this stage in your lives, try to have a closer relationship with your siblings by asking them out for lunch dates, etc.?
No. I tried for 34 years. My brother is such a toxic narcissist, he is someone I would not like to enter back into my life. Sadly, he still torturing my parents with his narcissistic views.
Youngest of 8, and they are truly all very messed up. It's a long story. I'm the black sheep, it's all good though, I prefer it that way. Two do live with me, but they won't for long, hopefully. Blood isn't always family. Ours are huge age gaps as well.
i have 5 siblings and we're all 4-5ish years apart. I'm the eldest. I'm the closest with the 2nd sibling, but growing up, like kalyne, we were either the worst enemies or the bestest of friends. But now we're both in our early 20s (almost 20 for her) we're the closest we've ever been. We both despise the 3rd sibling, our bratty, spoiled and immature younger brother/middle child, but we're both very fond and close with the last two younger siblings (10 and 6 y/o). We both are basically the 3rd and 4th parent LOLLLL southeast asian tingzzz. also, same anthony !!! me and my sis bond over our sufferings at home under our parents regime 🤣🤣😭 as well as how dickish our middle younger brother is 😶🌫
thought i was the youngest till 8th grade summer when i found out im adopted now i got three older siblings and also the oldest to three younger sisters my shit complicated to say the least 😅
I'm the second youngest of 7. As a child, I was close with one of my sisters who is 13 years older than me. But she changed completely when she married her husband, and now she's the one I interact with the least. I've always been close to my baby brother (2 years younger) and we also grew up together while all the other siblings had already moved away from home.
