It doesn't look like so much now, but I still remember my first time playing this. I had a SNES at the time and this was such a crazy leap forward. I was absolutely amazed.
It's funny how the 8bit and 16 bit stuff has aged much better than this early 3d stuff. Everyone lives the classic pixel art. No one lives jaggy ass 3d art.
At the time I also traded in my Megadrive and SNES for a Saturn I came home from the market in Bury with Nights into dreams and Panza Dragoon saga and I was blown away. Looking at this now I don't ever remember it looking this blocky. Funny how things change.
We don't notice it, but a lot of games made at the time were made with crt screens in mind. For example, the transparency of the waterfalls in Sonic and Donkey Kong Country were achieved because of the crt. A lot of games don't look as good on emulator because of that.
Shigeru Miyamoto also wishes he designed Angry Birds. edit: he also said he wish he'd made "Sim City on the PC." no proof that he said Nights into Dreams, but the word has definitely gotten around so i think it's true. but obviously since then he has wished he'd made other games too.
This is random, but thank you for helping me find my favorite childhood game!!!!!!!! I wasn't sure until I watched the gameplay, now I completely remember it all ! 😃
I have been looking for this game my whole adult life. I played it as a demo in one of the PlayStation 1 or 2 games? I never knew the name but remember me flying around collecting the stars and orbs and here it is! My 25 year search is over!
Luca K Yeah, it had a secondary chip added late in development that took a lot of hard assembly coding to get working right. Games like early builds of Shenmue pushed the game to its limits and looked better than PS1 and N64 - almost halfway between them and dreamcast. Some games used this very well, but most didn't.
God I see how this was revolutionary for the time, but it looks rather confused. Despite only really moving in 2 directions dictated by in game events, I still can’t tell where the hell they’re going. Sometimes it’s going in circles and sometimes it’s not. Again I’m sure this game was amazing for the time, but now it looks visually confused. I think it needs an HD make over for people now to understand it. Plus I’d like to live in a world where new NiGHTS games were coming out regularly.
Cara, eu sempre volto nesse vídeo para matar um pouco da saudade desse jogo 🥲 que nostalgia, eu tenho o jogo até hoje, mas infelizmente o meu Sega Saturn não liga mais... poxa, sinto maior falta 💔
The first time I was ever alone with a girl when I was 12 I for reason thought it was cool that I owned a Saturn and this game and she was like “omg I love this game” and just humiliated me. I still suck at this game to this day
HOLY COW! So, I have been searching (not super hard apparently) for this game for about 20 years. All of my earliest memories are of when I was 3. At the time, my siblings had a Sega Saturn. I don't know how I know that is what it was called. I just do. I don't remember anything about it, EXCEPT for this game. No idea what it was called, and honestly, 99% of this is unfamiliar to me. But the flying around and the little fly-in at 1:17 just makes my brain scream with nostalgia. Literally just now typed into google Sega saturn flying game. And here it is. I can die happily now.
I had a PS1 as a kid (thank god) but for some reason I really wanted this game. Looking back, I'm glad some things never happened. I don't know why I ever wanted this game..
I remember seeing this game in the stores when the Saturn launched and was very confused but impressed by it. Sega had some weird unorthodox games back in the day.
Omg I feel so old, this was super tech when it came out..... but the original Mario was and still is tell this day the greatest game ever made. Wow how far we've come😊
This game was pseudo-3D on rails at a time when the N64 and the PS were doing open worlds for real. The Saturn couldn't handle 'real 3D' because Sega banked on gamers wanting a 2D powerhouse gaming system for that generation, and only added the second processor when they realized the other systems' 3D capabilities were going to bury them. This of course made it extra complicated to develop for and so few companies (on always-tight deadlines) ever squeezed all the potential out of it that was possible. The game doesn't look bad for the time, but it would have been much better with the freedom to fly in an open world instead of through rings, Superman 64 style.
This plays smoother and faster and looks better than Mario 64 or Crash. Its proof that 3D isn't everything. Also Saturn Tomb raider is fully 3D and the best version. Saturn also had an expanded version of Resident evil. When the Saturn produced 3D it did it better but due to its focus on 2d most of the Saturn's library has aged better than any other console from that generation. Most 3D games from that era were abortions of computer science. Its one of the reasons the N64 is a turd console with a library that's 90% shovel ware and failed experiments, some even from otherwise reputable studios. The Playstation has aged almost as well do the focus on RPGs and a controller that was not a nightmare to use. Even many games on the PS1 that employ 3D graphics play like SNES games. Which is what baffles me when people slam the Saturn for its focus on 2D while praising games like Symphony of the Night and Final Fantasy 7. Really the PS1 is like a Saturn with less processing power but a larger library to its credit. The 64 is just a train wreck that no self respecting engineer would call a properly made, carefully thought out console. As far as comparing NiGHTS to SM64, that's just silly. That's like comparing Michelangelo's David to Sonichu.
I have been trying to remember the name of this game for the last decade. My memory was wrong though. I thought the character was a fairy and that the game was on PS1. But this is definitely it! I need to get a Sega Saturn!
Now I understand why there was a need to limit playing time back then . . . my eyes hurt looking at this, although I do remember this looking great back when it was new lol
This character, Nights. The most confusing character ever I thought it was a girl when I was small because it has eyelashes, is purple and has a very cute face. When I got older, I noticed that it has man's clothes, also the body proportions/illusion with the clothes that makes it look like it has broad shoulders and at the same time, narrow waist with women's hips/ass/LEGS. Years later I got to know that it was meant to be genderless and up to the player. Well played

This game confused tf out of me as a child and watching this now it still does
2023 and SAME I’m just as confused 🤣🤷🏽♂️
😂👍
Its a fun dreamy game.. nothing confusing about it.
Me too!! I always founded it disturbing!
It doesn't look like so much now, but I still remember my first time playing this. I had a SNES at the time and this was such a crazy leap forward. I was absolutely amazed.
+DrAmazing Oof, it really has aged a bit, hasn't it? I remember being in awe when it came out, though.
+Hunnggggh Gunnnnngg I felt the same way too when this game came out.

It's funny how the 8bit and 16 bit stuff has aged much better than this early 3d stuff. Everyone lives the classic pixel art. No one lives jaggy ass 3d art.
It was definitely next gen back then for a brief moment anyways
At the time I also traded in my Megadrive and SNES for a Saturn I came home from the market in Bury with Nights into dreams and Panza Dragoon saga and I was blown away. Looking at this now I don't ever remember it looking this blocky. Funny how things change.

I never actually played this back then, but I remember being astonished by it when it was released.
Yup seeing it as a kid wished I had a Saturn
This is the one game that Shigeru Miyamoto actually stated that he wished he created it. I say thats a high honor for any game
But no, he never did.
DRAKONOLUS don't hate nights into dreams
sounds believable. something Miyamoto would do
When did he say that ?
Shigeru Miyamoto also wishes he designed Angry Birds.
edit: he also said he wish he'd made "Sim City on the PC."
no proof that he said Nights into Dreams, but the word has definitely gotten around so i think it's true. but obviously since then he has wished he'd made other games too.
this game looks gorgeous
When game developers take massive hits of LSD
This is that, if they had to figure out how to fit everything together once they came down from the high.
I'm digging this out of the attic n playing it tomorrow...
Music sounds like sonic adventure chao garden music.
This is random, but thank you for helping me find my favorite childhood game!!!!!!!! I wasn't sure until I watched the gameplay, now I completely remember it all ! 😃
I thought I was the only one who had this same memory of this game! It was such a great highlight of my childhood!
I have been looking for this game my whole adult life. I played it as a demo in one of the PlayStation 1 or 2 games? I never knew the name but remember me flying around collecting the stars and orbs and here it is! My 25 year search is over!
Me paso lo mismo
This looked awesome for the saturn, it really pushed the console's limitations
The Saturn actually had a second GPU that only Sega knew how to use. :^)
+Joseph DiSalvo Is that true?
Luca K Yeah, it had a secondary chip added late in development that took a lot of hard assembly coding to get working right. Games like early builds of Shenmue pushed the game to its limits and looked better than PS1 and N64 - almost halfway between them and dreamcast.
Some games used this very well, but most didn't.
Now, that's impressive.

This is what superman 64 wanted to be

Amazing game. Must own for anyone with a Saturn.
Or PS3/Xbox 360/PC
Jason Warnecke I just found my saturn inside a foam case it's been there since 2006 and it looks new

Saturn was technically ahead of its time
Cara, eu sempre volto nesse vídeo para matar um pouco da saudade desse jogo 🥲 que nostalgia, eu tenho o jogo até hoje, mas infelizmente o meu Sega Saturn não liga mais... poxa, sinto maior falta 💔
Dude, this was my favorite when I was little! It gives me goosebumps watching this
The first time I was ever alone with a girl when I was 12 I for reason thought it was cool that I owned a Saturn and this game and she was like “omg I love this game” and just humiliated me. I still suck at this game to this day
Did you make out with her at least?
I played this game for days at a time, curtains closed, and just mesmerised by the floaty experience.
it'd be funny if a tiny little girl looked at this and then just screamed in terror
Me and my youngest daughter used to play this game A LOT! Way back when we did!
I used to be blown away by how real this looked lol
Playing this in 97 was a mindfuck

Sega tried to make Nights into the new Sonic and it failed but the game was awesome.
I noticed that the in-game octave is higher than usual. BUT I LOVE IT!
Oliver Forst higher than what? The video?

I remember this and Echo the Dolphin coming out for Saturn thinking this was gonna be the PEAK of gaming technology
oh my..good old days
Never played it, fascinated by it as a kid( we only got Ps1 in South Africa) would love a remake
Omg I feel so old, this was super tech when it came out..... but the original Mario was and still is tell this day the greatest game ever made. Wow how far we've come😊
One of my favorite games and I still have it
Nyla Baby do you really? ?still own the game
@@julioalmanza8090 yes I do I still have the system too my Sega Saturn
The good days life was simple.
They should remake a new Nights game for next gen consoles
You're in luck, they did. Sorta
Balan Wonderland?
Used to get blazed and play this with my friends, good times oh and SF Alpha 2 winner stays on tournaments into the early hours
Definitely needed the specific controller for the full experience.
I love that game! I had also the special analogue joystick of Sega!

... Remember my uni days, playing this while on the shrooms ...
I always loved this game..
So beautiful

The Beginning bring memories of Superman 64. The horror.
Now I understand why there was a need to limit playing time back then . . . my eyes hurt looking at this, although I do remember this looking great back when it was new lol
But did you find the game
so basically superman 64 with jesters
and fun

Love the music 💜❤️
Wait so you telling me that Nights into dreams originated on the Sega Saturn not the Dreamcast
Yes.
This character, Nights. The most confusing character ever

Well played
For me always girl.
is it just about flying or got something more? Looks like nice game, but if its just about flying its like minigame.
if acid trip was a game
I used to fuckin LOVE this game lmao
This looks lush, I might try it via emu.
This looks great, why on earth sega never remastered and released this for newer systems?
+ordepcbmt They did, idiot. You can get it on XBLA, PSN, and Steam. Learn to do some research next time.
+THE MAN
why did you say "idiot" about him? he only asked.
+arcadius1985 Because that's how internet warriors operate. I am sure he felt "supreme" After he was done typing non sense.
rayochapin I called him an idiot because I was probably mad about something at the time. I'm too cynical for my own good.
+THE MAN At least you admit it there, heya.
Looks like Pandemonium. Looks good. :-)
stunning game thwn and stunning game now sega was the pinnacle
it was gorgeous back then. they really need to make a reboot for this game
nice ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
Hey beautiful how was your holiday?
The music on my Sega Saturn sounds infinitely better 🎶
A ella se le ve en sonic shuffle
One of Xavier Woods's favorite games, eh?
I dont know i used to like to play it
I played the crap outta the demo of this but never got the actual game
This video seems slightly too slow
Why did I watch this!? What is happening!? I never owned this game!! XD
The music is rough
Didn't feel how funny for this game
Gorgeous game, concept, characters, atmosphere, and music but it's so damn boring imo. Is the sequel any more interesting?
This game gave me dizzy spells as a kid. Had to stop playing.
I couldn't understand jack about this game back in the day. Seriously, what the hell are you suppose to do??? 😕😕😕😕
I'm here because i don't understand what you do in this game and what it's even about. still don't understand after watching this video.
WTF is this rocket league patch?
Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
