Beautifully told...makes me think of my son Garrett that I gave birth too 100 years too late. He is a cowboy through n through. Keep riding my son, showing and being the best horse whisper you can, love mama.
My parents always tell me I was born 100 years late and that I belong in some ranch deep in the heart of Texas or heading cows as a cowboy through Oklahoma.
I lived the cowboy life and then they sent me to Vietnam to fight president johnsons war and I have never been the same I came home and I recovered from the physical wounds but I have other wounds that will never heal
Wow, I had forgotten that I wrote this about my son Garrett. From the time he was able to hold his head up and that was 31.5 years ago He was on his big Welch pony boo boo. He loved riding. He always told his father and me I'm either going to be a cowboy or a shoulder. I prayed it was a cowboy. By the time he graduated high school and put in 2 years at Southeastern University I remember him telling me he wasn't happy at school and wanted to go out west and work on a ranch. That has been 10 years now and I've never seen him as content, happy and so well adjusted. Do I miss him...EVERY SINGLE DAY. But he is doing what he loves and that's what makes this mom truly happy. Love you son. Mom
Think is one of the most beautiful songs that I never heard untill about 1 year ago. Where have i been, and what have I been listening to. I grew up watching B&W cowboy movies. Thank you God, for this. I am truly grateful.
This song brings back the days when those good old Black ..White ..and Spanish cowboys rode together ..biting the dust behind slow moving herds from the Louisiana border to the Kansas prairie .. cowcamps ..full of life and tall tales ..when a fellow cowboy was more than a brother ..we need that feeling today ...God knows..
Countrywaltz wonderfull song in memories for they men...love Ed Bruce and you Willie for that ...respect for Ed and thanks my love Willie...jeudi from Paris 2023.02.23...wigh my heartlove ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👍🙏🙏🙏
A version of this is on the feed at work. It reminds me of a newspaper headline I saw not many years after moving to where I am now. A piece of living history had died. It turned out that this area of West Texas and Eastern New Mexico had had one roving cowboy left. He had a group of ranches he rode between that he had been going to since before the current owners of the ranches had been born. He was in his early 90s when he pulled up at a Clovis are ranch. They welcomed him with open arms as always and gave him a bunk, a stable for his horse and some tasks he could help out with. The next morning his bunk was empty. His horse was also gone. Riders were sent all over the area to try to find him. Early afternoon a rider saw a horse where there shouldn't be one. There was the old man. Rolled up in his bedroll facing East. The coroner said he died around sunrise. A fitting end for him. Put on the open range that was his home.

I wanna head back out to WY but my wife is doing all she can to stop me from living my dream. She'll never understand, no where close and even if she went it would mean nothing to her to be there and remember. I must go to where my heart and spirit are. Freedom

Got a few cowboys and horse thieves in the family. Here is my 2nd cousin Lee Caldwell on Flying Devil in 1914, I believe. (whoops...guess I can't paste a photo here. Well if you're interested google Lee Caldwell Flying Devil)
There is a thrilling story of Lee wining the 1919 Pendleton World Championship Bucking Horse title in a superb book Let 'Er Buck by Charles Wellington Furlong in 1921....with a broken arm no less. Those were the days when men were a bit tougher than today.

It's nice to see the likes of wild bill hickock holding some sheep horns and tom horn on horseback on this song

Love that photo Greg. Looks to me that horse was aptly named.
