  • Here's one from July 30/2021. Curtains closed as it was during a heatwave. I spent 2021 recovering from my brain aneurism and did not busk that year. 25 minute jam. RUclips makes me pennies. If you want to support live improv, please sign up for a PAID membership on Patreon (free membership doesn't help you or me) or download this track off bandcamp. That's how I survive. If you want to tip, use paypal or my other links. If you tip on RUclips I get only 50-70% of it.

@@FrankStewart-go7zr thanks. What’s interesting about this video is that it is pure music and it barely got any views. unless it’s Clickbait or some kind of negative or confrontational video, no one watches it. This is the saddest realization while running my RUclips channel.

How long have you been playing guitar? I am 39 and just started. I am so afraid that because of my age, that I'll never be able to do things like what you're doing and that I'll at best only be able to do a little bit.

I started in 1972 when I was 10. getting good depends on how much time you put in. I didn’t really focus on playing a lot of what I liked until 1978, before that it was lessons. then I worked on ear training, learning solos note for note off records, Learnng where all the chords are by ear. if you practice, avoid watching RUclips videos to learn songs. listen to the song. find the bass notes, find the rhythm, find the solos. Ear training is Number one skill you need to learn first. you should be able to learn any song by ear without tabs, videos, or lessons. do this for a year consistently, every day, and you will reap the rewards. main focus points after this is working on your own ideas and improvisation. I was 30 before I even started doing improv. 37 before I recorded my first songs. 43 before I started my first serious bands, 53 before I went busking and did 100% improv on the streets.

@@shatnershairpieceDo you think it is still possible to get good, even starting at 39 (almost 40)? I pick it up everyday and if I'm really cooking, I can spend 2-3 hours on it. I know I'll never be "the best" but I wanna be good. I wanna be able to sit and play for people, while sitting underground, in the subway station. I wanna be on stage, jamming with a band. So, I have goals. Now, just the getting there and finding the route to get there.
Man, you sound so good. I haven't commented in a while, but I am the one (if you don't remember) telling all the jealous people you meet on the streets, to get a guitar and learn it, if they want to play, instead of messing with your shit.

you can get good within a year or two of practice. depends on motivation. also depends on if you want to be a rhythm player or a lead player. 5 year olds these days can play a million miles an hour, and you’re not 80. you have lots of time before dementia sets in.
