Just knowing that the random anxiety I was having while trying my first open water swim is normal helps me a lot. As soon as I get into the deep parts and look into the abyss I freak out, even in lakes with no chance of anything attacking me. It is such a mental challenge.
I have the same now, any tips?
Nice work, Taren - but I think the subtitles are from your trail running video.
Excellent Taren!!!
I saw your video of the Roka entry level suit when you released it, and it is indeed an awesome suit!
This video just popped up in my autoplay... good stuff I suppose but to someone who grew up around thousands of lakes, swimming huge distances in them for fun, getting an unexpected peek into the mindset of someone who might fear open water swimming have me mental whiplash :D
Congrats on the weight loss, as well! I've done something similar, 70lbs and another 10 ahead for vanity and lighter running. Maybe I should look into triathlon for real - I already have cycling down, and am training for my first half marathon. :D
I just got to get over the panic in the water then I can move up to the Olympic distance. With these tips and some others I will try and keep at it to get better. Thank you for the information.
Solid video Taren! I want to get into triathlon and love every aspect of it EXCEPT the open water swimming😅 I wasn’t taught proper technique when I was young (which tires me WAY too fast) ontop of some slight traumas when I was really small. So basicly just being in water where I can’t touch the bottom freaks me out! I can’t swin more than 50 meters either before I’m panting and feel like I’ll drown. This helped though. Nice too see that it’s so common. Looking forward to overthrowing this fear!
Just happened to me at my first Tri this weekend. Being in the water with so many people made me panic that I could keep my freestyle swim going. I reverted to swimming on my back and somehow managed to get out of the water before the cut-off.
Timely - my last triathlon was about exactly one year ago (in CDA) and I had a panic in the water for the first time ever and dnf'd
One week ago - I just started training again and have had two pool sessions so far.
Ty for this vid taren 💦
I’m a very confident pool swimmer, but can’t get confident swimming in lakes or the sea. Interestingly, rivers seem to be fine. Possibly the thought of being so far away from aid?
Same problem
