I can't understand how so many of these guys make such beautiful weapons and then throw it all away by just using loose conection methods with glue and some leather band. It's not like it's a suprise that they do a strengh test.

The Mandough yeah I was not happy when I saw those ice blocks. That was the first time I was triply nervous. I was hoping some metal science had happened and the tone that was too hard and snapped on the punkin was now a bit softer and no longer as apt to snap. And science happened and it just bent. Not ideal but got me through it.

All the force of the stab/trust goes into 1 single small point, the spike on the other weapon was a lot shorter and therefor got thicker a lot faster. witch makes the distribution of the force different.
3:13 I’ll be honest, pumpkins aren’t really good as things to test your weapon out. They are rather hard and sturdier than human flesh, so it probably would have more likelihood to result in the breaking of one of the spikes.
That's what I thought. The guy's weapon tip didn't look like the example shown and yet they tested it anyways when others missed lesser details and got disqualified.
That was super interesting, I'd never heard of the sodegarami before, it is a brutal weapon and took a lot of intricate work to finish. I could tell right away Rita had achieved a product much closer to the original, based on that she was already in the lead but I was cautious about the broken prong. Luckily for Rita the prong outlasted the unpinned connection of the opponent's build, I expect that even if that prong had broken Rita still would have held the lead. :)
I'm glad she won because she had a great personality and I loved the creative approach she took on it, however I can never respect when a smith on this show relies on welding more than forging. It's not called Welded in Fire!
This show just shows you the skill and craftsmanship of ancient blacksmiths. And shows technology can't replace tireless dedication and skill. These weapons would have lost wars back then.
The judges carry all the tests before and even forge the actual weapon, that's how they say that the time is tight fit, but enough to make it. They explained that in one of their specials.

If the weapon tested first break, they test the other one after to see if it survives. That to make it a fair testing.

They probably didn’t notice it was missing, on a handle it’s obvious but not on something that you hold away from your face
