I am straight up addicted to youtube....it's really bad because i work from home. Also, you can justify the endless consumption because you are "learning". We are curious creatures, its how we evolved, but that is being hijacked with modern technology. To be honest, i've never been more unhappy! I felt the same way in the past 2 weeks. It's so complex the world we live in. The way I found a solution to situations like this is just stop doing everything and focus on the one thing that will give me most pleasure at that specific moment. Sometimes that one thing it's just "nothing". The combination of dopamine and "less" always gets me out of the information or whatever other kind of fatigue.

Yessss!!! Information fatigue is definitely a thing! Especially when it comes to media. We are constantly bombarded with facts, opinions, useless information, and highly relevant information, all rolled up together and being tossed at us at high speed. Sometimes it can get extremely difficult to have mental clarity and untangle all these thoughts to pick out what is actually valuable and necessary. The issue of mental clutter is getting more and more prevalent and will only continue to grow as a problem. Awareness is the key. Detoxing when we can from our devices and being more selective with what we take in can be extremely helpful. Mindfulness practices such as meditation, yoga, and spending time outdoors and nature can also aid in this. I recently did a video on this topic because it is becoming an increasing problem for many of my clients. Thank you so much for addressing this in such a powerful and relatable way. You are a true inspiration and I wish you nothing but continued success and happiness in 2020! Sending love out to this incredible community that you have created here. ♥️

  • @SanjaySkar

I totally agree with the fact that we are the ones responsible for the constant flood of information pouring over us and get stuck with life but it also comes from standards, we as a society sets to succeed (i don't follow that that idea at all). It's true what you said that we need to free up some space to think, to realize everything is under control, but to make it a "normal" criterion, more people need to understand that option, although we are on the way to make a change, and glad to see you are working towards creating that change. :) Great video!

      @SanjaySkar 5 лет назад +2

@@lorenzogardella897 I think I get what you meant. But I also think that particular idea or belief that "we have everything within our hands" is what creates the change of perspective. We are somewhat forced by the achievements of humankind to follow the thought that we have everything we need. And this barely includes any humane values or benefits rather than a sea of information floating around which we don't where to look into. And it's so normal to think that way since, that's the way the society teaches us. :)

You just explained what's happening to me perfectly. I knew it was happening, but I didn't quite understand why or what to call it. Information overload. Why do I spend the bulk of my free time on my phone, knowing it is bad for me in the back of my mind, then wonder why I feel sick and mentally fatigued at the end of the day? I say it all the time, the internet is a blessing and a curse. I have to limit my time here, use it as little as possible, even for productive means, because there's always the temptation to do more. I feel like, even if you're doing something "productive", like editing photos, researching stuff for school, it's still not healthy to do it for 8 hours straight. Unplug, be with nature, talk to people face to face, be a human being in the world around you without a device glued to you 24/7. Anyway, you may well have saved my life today, my friend. Thank you.

I had chronic fatigue for 10 years and honestly taking 6 months away from social media, using my phone only after 2pm and for reduced time, no screens 1 hour before bed and nothing adrenaline fueled (thrillers, heavy music, etc- most things I loved were adrenaline filled), adding in meditation and learning to be 'bored' in my spare time is the best thing I ever did. I felt so good, I could walk again, socialise, feel pain free and have energy. Recently I have got back into the habit of spending too much time on screens and becoming so stressed but ignoring it and I feel utterly awful again, eating worse food, no motivation, pain, brain fog.. This video came at the right time to remind me, I need to get back to those good habits. Thank you!

This is exactly what I'm going through right now. I've been feeling very tired and exhausted with all the information that I consume every single day and just got to the point where I realized that I need to take care of how I obtain information. Taking too much information from social media and the internet world in general has made my thinking process unclear and unproductive. I recently deleted Instagram app from my smart phone and instead of scrolling down meaningless images on Instagram before going to bed which I used to do, I tend to go to sleep earlier and wake up earlier and use my time in a more efficient way. I still feel "information fatigued" as I cannot completely stop myself from using the internet but I can 100% feel that I've been taking better care of myself and my thoughts ever since I realized what's going on in my head and why I feel so unclear whenever I try to think. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this topic, Nathaniel! This video has made what I am going through even clearer so that I can help myself out!

For what it's worth, I think the most stupid word of the 21st century is 'productivity'. Everybody has to come up with a way of finding a value in their life that can't be measured in terms of output. Stop beating yourself up, ffs. Productivity is only something you have to do in order to earn enough money to live. After that, you just have to LIVE. I realise, of course, that the unexamined life isn't worth living, but examining your life isn't the same as constantly measuring your so-called 'productivity'.

Recently I started to cut down the hours I'd spent on my phone during the morning, while I was having breakfast, on public transport, etc. My mind started to feel calmer, like my life slowed down quite a bit. I also realize I became more present and focus during my daily activities, specially in the meetings I usually have every morning at my job.
And the best thing is: I discovered that I don't miss any important information. I thought I'd be alienated from the world if I stopped using social networks until midday. But if anything really important happens, people will talk about it day and night, it's easy to catch up. So, regarding what you said in this video, it's like I could filter what was relevant for me to know and then move on with my routine after using my phone.

So many times when I watch some of these self growth\lifestyle\idk videos on yt I'm kinda deluded bc (to me) they are fully missing the point of what they are talking about (so generally find a way to make your life better).
    Especially in the US.
I'm scared bc people always spread messages about DOING MORE, REACHING HIGHER GOALS, NEVER STOP, WORKING YOUR ASS OFF and so on.
That's not really the point to me, it only keeps us on the surface and it's also very dangerous for our sensibility.
I'm happy because you really are following (and sharing) your own path.. trying to reach the roots of these contemporary problems, that we all have.

I've been thinking the exact same thing as of late, but this is the first time I've heard anyone say it so clearly! For me, my brain fog mostly likely stems from both information fatigue and my unhealthy diet/lifestyle. Thank you for uploading this!!

📌 I just saw Madonna’s concert in a small place in Miami this weekend and before the concert they locked your phone in a small kinda pocket that you can’t open it. It was an amazing experience to enjoy that concert with no screen cellphones all over OMG it’s amazing feeling watching all those people enjoying the present moment without distractions!! Great video man!

u don't know how much this video just helped (and will help) me.
recently, i feel that i literally can't think straight and i just find it hard to talk sometimes. i find it hard to form thoughts and whenever i speak i get a little anxiety; i used to never really be like that.
i kinda just blamed it on the communications class i just took bc i was thinking that i have more anxiety while talking bc it was due to me being more cognizant of the words coming out of my mouth, but to be honest i don't think that's the reason now. i have been getting enough sleep, but i've DEFINITELY been on social media a whole lot more lately. i find that i care about other people's opinions a LOT and i just couldn't figure out why exactly my mind has been so fogged lately. now, my mind may not be fogged exclusively from social media, but i think that's definitely playing an impact.
so thank you. there's definitely some changes i'm going to have to make in my life, but this video was the first step. when i saw this video i was like "no way, that's literally my problem rn" so, again, thank you.

Another thought provoking video. I believe strongly that humans are having so much depression and anxiety from us constantly trying to keep up with ALL the new media, information and everything that comes with making a living. It leaves most of us exhausted physically, mentally and spiritually. Our creativity is stifled and we feel disconnected from nature. Unless we make the conscious choice to live in the present and not grasp, instead let go, our mental health won’t improve. It’s not easy. It’s something u must practice everyday along with meditation. If you don’t know yourself how can u even pretend to know another. Of course nature or God has its secrets that it probably will never reveal. But the mystery is beautiful. The tiny amount we can know is mind blowing! Great video by the way. Thank you so much for sharing your story....

This is exactly what's happening to me right now. I feel like I wake up and fall asleep in a daze (barely sleep at all) and I don't feel like doing anything because everything feels more of the same. And what you said in this video is exactly why. I've been on vacation for a week, first time in a while I've had so much time to myself and I've been watching not just my subscriptions but one recommended video after another, binge watching TV series and movies, reading news article after news article and today I feel I've just had enough. My sleep pattern has been broken, I feel like snacking non stop, I'm in a bad mood. I'm not enjoying my vacation because I've been simply abusing my mind by trying to cram as much as possible into my head and not taking a break.

Another great and meaningful video. I've been thanking about this topic lately. It's so easy to distract yourself this days and become addicted to those distractions. I know it's a problem for me, that I can't think clearly and I even know what i supposed to do. I have plans, I do list and everything. I cut off any social media, I don't have TV, don't play any games but still somehow I ending up constantly consuming meaningless contests and wasting time. Supposedly I'm learning things but true is I'm just overloaded with informations and in the end I dont even know what for I needed it at the first place. Probably because of this "informations overdose" I'm constantly tired and dont have energy to do things that actuall have meaning to me. And even if I'm working on this and doing pretty well my brain is often covered in this fog that makes everything blur and uncertain. That's cause anxiety and I ending up in endless wheel of slowly destroying myself. So need more changes on my life probably and can't stop trying to grow as a person.
It turned into sth more depressive I've planed. Anyway I'll try to work on my things and good luck to all of you guys~

I real think that you’re on the right track with this. I’ve had a similar thing happen multiple times. That’s why I’ve found it important to schedule retreats or fasts in a way. I’ve been trying to incorporate a 3 day fast every single month. 1 day where I completely cut myself off and only meditate and drink water in my room. The second day with more freedom but completely cut off from electronics and mostly exercising and doing more tactile/physical work that needs to be done. Then finally the third day getting my electronics back, but staying off of social media and other things I deem as time wasters like entertainment apps. It really helps refresh me. Especially the complete fasting day where it’s the equivalent of being in voluntary solitary. It makes me appreciate everything I have more. Even just doing a week long fast of no social media is beneficial. It’s important to understand the balance that’s necessary in life. Work is productive and enjoyable, but just like other things that aren’t as beneficial for you, if you do it too much your brain gets hooked on the dopamine releases. Overstimulation really drains a person over time, so it’s great to try not to stimulate yourself in any way. It’s like resetting something, it usually works a lot better when it stops for a bit.

Dude ... this video just came in the perfect time
A month ago I've been feeling not completely fine I felt there was something wrong with my mind because I am consuming a massive amount of information , I am trying to learn a new language..I downloaded 3 books to read and I subscribed dozens of educational and scientific RUclips channels ... I tried to learn alot at once and this manifest in my presence that even my family notices that .. I am feeling less disciplined and I am gradually losing my productivity and literally ended up not doing any of things above so I really need to slow down and gather my thoughts to do what I really want ....step by step

Whenever I go and visit my hometown I tend to detach myself from any of my social media accounts and I literally feel the difference. All I want is to just live in a moment, spend more time with the people I occasionally see and be creative in making use of my day enjoying the absence of internet. I feel rejuvenated.

In 2019, as in most years, I tried to read as many books as possible. But I found that I was consuming books but not digesting them. In 2020, I've picked a small list of books I've always wanted to read (e.g., 'War & Peace,' 'A Brief History of the Universe') and I'm going to read them slowly, engage with them and give them time to sink in. Thanks for this video, it helped clarify what I'm doing with this reading list.

We recently had a 10 days internet shutdown in my state. I remember how anxious and how agitated I had become during the first 3 days. For almost 72 hours I couldn't think of anything else but getting back my lost connection. I was physically aching to scroll through some webpage- Instagram, Twitter, Quora, RUclips... anything. Gradually, the feelings receded. The ache faded. And by the 9th day, I was actually feeling grateful for losing my internet connection. I felt more alive being disconnected from the world than I have ever felt before in the midst of so much information bombardment.
I can't believe how depended my life has become on a single 6 inch screen. Hopefully, I will detach myself from it now. Not completely, but mindfully.

This video is a gem. I was recently concerned about my idea of sleep. There have been times in my existance in wich I saw sleep as a mere waste of time. I multiple times forced myself to keep going without considering an 8-hour night of sleep as a biological need, till the point I could no longer complete any of the tasks I established to get done in a day. So frustrating. Still need to remind this myself every once in while. So thank you!

Glad your shared this ... As a freelancer I work alone and besides going to jiu jitsu class and interacting with my teammates I have very little human interactions during my weekdays. The only place where I can interact with people from my home office is through my phone but the consequence of that is not being able to think clearly because of all the distractions. If you isolate yourself you end up feeling alone on the other hand you try to find a connection through your phone and end up overwhelmed from distractions.

5:00 feels like my situation when I work from home. You would think I would be able to accomplish more without distractions of co-workers and phone calls and meetings but I am so much more unproductive because my bed and RUclips and shopping etc. I need to be more intentional with my time.
