Just bought a Special Edition Tararo PRS...EMG pickups and locking tuning heads, including a floyd rose whammy. I literally am in heaven when I play it. You can tell so much passion is put into crafting every part of it. I respect Paul Reed Smith, and I will be playing his guitars for a long time.
I saw Opeth play at Luna Park in Sydney a couple of years ago and for the first time, heard a PRS Custom 24 in the hands of Michael Åkerfeldt. The sonic clarity, purity of sound and amazing tonality was stunning - a simply gorgeous instrument.
I've been fortunate to amass a nice little collection of guitars over the last 20 years... Fender's, Gibson's, Gretsch's, Fano's, etc.. I just picked up a 2013 Paul Reed Smith DGT (my 2nd PRS… I also have a '99 Hollowbody II), and it might be the best guitar I've ever played or owned. Its a truly remarkable specimen. Its flawlessly built…. Never goes out of tune…. Sounds incredible…. Looks amazing…. I see a lot more PRS's in my future and I can't say enough good things about the DGT. Paul's building guitars the RIGHT WAY. Paul Reed Smith, Bill Collings, Dennis Fano, and Bill Nash are a breath of fresh air… Big props to Paul. #smitten
ALL RESPECT FOR PAUL REED SMITH!!! EVERYTHING SHOULD BE MADE THIS WAY !!! EVERYBODY SHOULD WORK AND THINK THE WAY PAUL IS !!!! MASSIVE RESPECT TO YOU PAUL !!!
I suggest you revisit the PRS catalog then because since 1998, they have made quite a few amazing instruments that would be more suited to your style than previous models. (NF3/DC3/305) :)
@ejlister is the wide fat cut not wide enough?? otherwise go for a private stock! you can come to the factory and layout how you want the neck to be cut
@AlexanderBlueAvenue he really is a very honest, genuine guy. he can be a bit blunt, and tell it like it is - but one of the nicest, most generous guys around.
Mr.Smith i rescently bought a 2012 custom prs se custom guitar center here in columbus ohio the guitar looked like a used one when i brought it home scratcheson the back,no gig bag or any information on the guitar wandering if you could help??????????????
@RussianCivilian I got a se custom 22 and im frankly not too cray about it however i love PRS im thinking of maybe getting a used american prs custom of some sort.
the top end of production guitars. I don't mean that as a slight. I have 2 PRS guitars and i LOVE them. I would not even begin to hesitate to buy another one... but they are still production guitars. FREAKING AMAZING production guitars.
i wish i could have just one prs custom 24 :( my life would just be complete, he picks one up there in that interview like its nothing, hes got tonnes of 'em, it dont't matter. i really wish i could have one :(
in my opinion, PRS are the best in the world. even their cheapest models like the SE custom 24 are miles ahead of everything else. they are perfect all round guitars.
@pillarsofserpents Not only that. Name another major Guitar company where the guy who's name is on the guitar still talks, helps make designs, promotes and co-own's the company and basically CARE's about the guitars and not the money
@tylereturnity because you get a great instrument. there is still a lot of handwork, fender for example is very automated. besides this the quality of the woods is better. the dryingprocess. all these things cost money and you have to pay for it but its worth it. why else would santana play prs for over 20 years
Gotta PRS and his company!... the PRS design of the C22 and the 513 and single cuts are so superior to other major guitar makers. They cost more for a reason. If you're a musician and you're passionate, you'll play guitar your whole life - so why not invest in something that will last a long time and never let you down.
i really like the string seperation and the variations of sounds in a prs! Nevertheless i dont really like them. One time i took a gibson then a prs and then a gibson .for me gibson had more character and more bite..for me there are 2 guitars: strats, les pauls-
I do not think that you will find a more hands on president the PRS. It has made him what he is. This is the reason I am a proud owner of two a ce and a se. I stumbled onto the ce22 I have in 1997 and saught out the see semi-hollow that I have. This si the reason that I will probably buy nothing but PRS in the future.
i agree with most of what he says except the block. i like my block with shallow string recess's. so the string goes through the entire block. the guitar resonates much better. Also its gotta be a pre CBS trem block. 100% cold rolled steel weighing 10oz at least. compare the block of this guitar to the block of 57 strat and you know what i mean. although i don't like his guitars, paul reed smith is the new leo fender of the new generation.
The best guitars on the planet, no doubt. But, sadly, I can't even afford the SE models :( Time to save up $600, go to GuitarCenter, and buy a Tremonti SE
Save 20$ per day (cut out smokes and or drinks or meals out) and inside two years you'll have the guitar of your dreams...I have bought dream guitars with a low budget...good luck :)
I hear ya. Gibson's quality has taken a nosedive since... hmm... 60's? lol PRS is more bang for the buck. I would own one, but the necks aren't wide enough for me.

Starting the prs leg of my 40+ yrs. journey. Thank You PRS.

Nothing but love for the PRS family!
PRS a guy that found his passion and has taken it to the north degree. Great interview
PRS defintely make the best finishes. I've always admired that, as well as the stunning sound.
that man has a vision and its just great. i love his instruments both the old ones and the brand new ones i order

i love this guy... i must get a paul reed smith soon!!!
ALL RESPECT FOR PAUL REED SMITH!!! EVERYTHING SHOULD BE MADE THIS WAY !!! EVERYBODY SHOULD WORK AND THINK THE WAY PAUL IS !!!! MASSIVE RESPECT TO YOU PAUL !!!
he seems like a very humble and realist guy
I love this guy, the way he thinks. I look at life the same way he compared writing a song
I suggest you revisit the PRS catalog then because since 1998, they have made quite a few amazing instruments that would be more suited to your style than previous models. (NF3/DC3/305) :)
I LOVE PRS GUITARS!!!
It has a 5-way rotary pickup selector which is located right below the tone knob.
@RussianCivilian they really are a work of art. what kind of amp do you use?
Love this man!
after 10yrs of dreaming this guitar finally i got one:) prs custom 24 10 top in black gold color:(
Yea i was thinking that, although one day it would still be nice to go all out on a custom 24 or something.
@kamaboko1
go to their site and watch the videos on production. cnc is just a small part and roughcut. the rest is handcrafted
Man, this guy's good. Anybody have any suggestions about which model to get with which pickups if you like playing jazz and country on a solid-body?
@adidas331 I have quite a few amps, a Marshall Lead 12, a
peavy. My main amp is either a Randall RX412 or a Carvin V3L
@ejlister
is the wide fat cut not wide enough?? otherwise go for a private stock! you can come to the factory and layout how you want the neck to be cut
This makes me proud to live in Maryland
Just bought a 99' custom 22 10 top hope its good as i remember them being
@AlexanderBlueAvenue he really is a very honest, genuine guy. he can be a bit blunt, and tell it like it is - but one of the nicest, most generous guys around.
Passionate man!
just got an SE Custom 24. its amazing.
Any chance of some classical guitars Paul?
Mr.Smith i rescently bought a 2012 custom prs se custom guitar center here in columbus ohio the guitar looked like a used one when i brought it home scratcheson the back,no gig bag or any information on the guitar wandering if you could help??????????????
@LthTV
its a private stock color.
i've got a 2003 Singlecut... and it's just awesome...
@pillarsofserpents I agree, he's just a guy who loves guitars and strives to make the best ones possible, and guess what, he succeeds!
Anyone know what's the music used in the intro and at the end??
damn he looks like a legit down to earth guy..makes me trust PRS guitars even more and look at em with respect ^_^
what song is in the background at the beginning?
@pillarsofserpents oh yah. Paul Reed Smith is a master of his craft.
for some reason, after seeing this interview, I really trust Paul Reed Smith. he seems like a genuine, hands-on guy. NOT some corporate clown.
You do know PRS pickups are some of the most desired pickups in the world right?
Best guitars ever made
Paul is awesome!
my heart just dropped. haha dude pizza over guitars?! COMMON!!!
3:47 where is the pickup selector?
@BayouBluesMan It's possible ?
@wowspare i think with the proper pickups its good for literally anything.
@pillarsofserpents
He IS a corporate dude but hasnt lost track of where he came from. I like Paul.
love the les-paul shaped (maroon) PRS... however i'm not a big fan of the headstock shape... it's too sharp-looking.
@RussianCivilian is it good for metal?
i wish i could have just one prs custom 24 :( my life would just be complete, he picks one up there in that interview like its nothing, hes got tonnes of 'em, it dont't matter. i really wish i could have one :(
to me, he really looks like a dreamer.... in a good sense....
@Led ZeppelinFan if its just sitting there can i have your PRS?
PRS IS THE BEST NOTHING COMPARES GO PAUL
WOW!!
i just bought the prs se torero guitar... it`s awesome! xD
i love you, man! And I love my '97 custom 22 in root beer.
in my opinion, PRS are the best in the world. even their cheapest models like the SE custom 24 are miles ahead of everything else. they are perfect all round guitars.
I know who owns that guitar at 1:46
@BmArthas and Between the Buried and Me :)
I like howe the "very unique process for drying the wood" is a fan.
@pillarsofserpents Not only that.
Name another major Guitar company where the guy who's name is on the guitar still talks, helps make designs, promotes and co-own's the company and basically CARE's about the guitars and not the money
never had the pleasure of playing a PRS.. maybe one day..
@KoolKluxKlan666 no they're not what? my amp is a mesaboogie recto through a 212 that i made.
@tylereturnity
because you get a great instrument. there is still a lot of handwork, fender for example is very automated. besides this the quality of the woods is better. the dryingprocess.
all these things cost money and you have to pay for it but its worth it. why else would santana play prs for over 20 years
@RussianCivilian carvin huh...very interesting. i have an orange crush 30r...i like it, but i'm always curious as to other types.
wow i was just about to write that lol
Except that he is also Woz.
@BayouBluesMan why? I love the things but I am not good enough to justify one hehe.
Gotta PRS and his company!... the PRS design of the C22 and the 513 and single cuts are so superior to other major guitar makers. They cost more for a reason. If you're a musician and you're passionate, you'll play guitar your whole life - so why not invest in something that will last a long time and never let you down.
You want to see an original Paul Reed Smith Google ARIA PRO 2 late 70's Artist
@wowspare Yes
One day i will own a PRS guitar... one day
im noob at guitar and im tight on a budget (below 750usd)...need help
i really like the string seperation and the variations of sounds in a prs! Nevertheless i dont really like them. One time i took a gibson then a prs and then a gibson .for me gibson had more character and more bite..for me there are 2 guitars: strats, les pauls-
Wow, you're outta touch...
HE'S COMIN TO MY SCHOOL TOMMOROW
@dzohusafetw I've always thought that.
Fuck. None of my guitars even ring out like that when you tap them. Testament to PRS!
i agree with most of what he says except the block. i like my block with shallow string recess's. so the string goes through the entire block. the guitar resonates much better. Also its gotta be a pre CBS trem block. 100% cold rolled steel weighing 10oz at least. compare the block of this guitar to the block of 57 strat and you know what i mean. although i don't like his guitars, paul reed smith is the new leo fender of the new generation.
@Ethanshredguitar like a lot of people i would imagine
How does video have 9 dislikes...what’s wrong with people
@BenSmith912 Ehm... it's spelled torero xD BTW, great guitar!!
He is a Steve Jobs for guitars
The best guitars on the planet, no doubt. But, sadly, I can't even afford the SE models :(
Time to save up $600, go to GuitarCenter, and buy a Tremonti SE
Your right gibson is windows fender is Sony and prs are apple;D if you want it in a computer tech point of view lol
@Dan2112prs I couldn't have said it better myself.
why are they so expensive...
Save 20$ per day (cut out smokes and or drinks or meals out) and inside two years you'll have the guitar of your dreams...I have bought dream guitars with a low budget...good luck :)
That blue PRS is really sexy..
@cobuf
Please, don't insult PRS. it's not legit to compare a VERY mass produced electronics and an art of breeding a fine guitar.
Sure PRS guitars are the best! Opeth uses them! :)
it's notgonringright? it's not gon' ring...
@pillarsofserpents True, clearly not like the Gibson dude.
I hear ya. Gibson's quality has taken a nosedive since... hmm... 60's? lol PRS is more bang for the buck. I would own one, but the necks aren't wide enough for me.
Just buy an SE model they're almost as good and they're very affordable
And it doesn't crash your Amp when you use it. LOL
PRS guitars sound exactly like a ..... Les Paul. Thank you, Les, for being a true innovator.
I have a PRS Custom 24 sitting around, losing value.
I'm being honest.. Can I have Your Prs custom 24? Dreamed for it since forever😍😍😍😍
"SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!"
