I think a proper saltwater 6# would be legit
      Something with some backbone
A decent sized rubber meshed net would make life super easy but I hardly ever see them used in the salt

You'll be elbow to elbow, but the fishing is off the charts! If you go down to Maimi, Hallover inlet is the place to be, but the water is RUFF!!! If you go west coast, Sarasota bay is slamming. And of course, don't forget, Florida has some of the best bass fishing in the country! Oh and St. Johns river has Tons of fish (east coast) including talipa but watch for gators in fresh water. Usually none in saltwater. Please hit me up with any questions. I'd like to help. :-)

Fun video to watch. Enjoying the variety of vids you shoot. So much can happen when you're fly fishing... I suspect you will frequently be outgunned when you bring a #4 weight (trout) fly rod to these waters which hold some massive saltwater species. You'll end up handlining the majority of your hookups as the rod has nothing on bigger fish. Thanks for showing the kind of fly you were using. Do you tie the leader yourself or use bought ones? Which diameter / strength?

I think my problem was I got daddies with mediocre tackle and bad locations. every tarpon I've hooked was over 40 50 inches. and the destroyed me every time. and those softshells are very stretchy snappy so be careful

I love fishing the other side of the dams after rains and slamming everything cause all the big fish pushed up here to eat... I got so many barn door snook reds cobia and a bull shark or 2 fishing a freshwater lake flow into tampa bay. there were so many shad getting slaughtered. you threw the net on the lake at the lowhead dam that flows into the bay and get a netful and they pigged out on the shad that were getting washed into brackish water. alligator lake in safety harbor florida.. youll get beasts there. truly a feeding frenzy. all the big local fish were in the piling slipstream just eating what they see coming by. I got a 35 inch redfish there that was released to the grill with cajun seasoning. one of my favorite next to snook for eating. this was 2006 before the red tide put a ban on the harvest of reds snook and everything else
