I'm a weekend golfer and was saving up for the MLM2 Pro. But after seeing this review I think I'll do a little more saving and get the original Skytrak. I just like the interface better. I'm 59 with a 20+ handicap but I believe with something like the Skytrak that I can use in the privacy of my own home I could possibly shave a few points off my handicap going into my retirement years. Thanks for the in depth review.
Looks like SkyTrak has them form $995 right now. And it worth the $300 Difference. MLM2 PRO is a paper weight without Subscription. SkyTrak you still get Driving Range regardless is you have Subscription.
@@davidcole2337the only thing you get for free with Skytrak is the basic range. Why they don’t include a couple of courses or enhanced range features is ridiculous.
Perfect timing on this video! I have the opportunity to upgrade from my R10 and buy a used Skytrak and I know you are an expert on the unit. This video along with your prior reviews solidified my decision to make the deal. Thanks Mitch!
Just finished my garage setup and your videos helped me decide on the OG skytrak with gspro. Picked up a used skytrak on ebay which has been perfect for my needs and I’m loving it so far.
Love the review of the OG ST. Got mine during covid and it's one of the biggest factors to reducing my handicap down. I was shooting in the high 90s and in one season, I got it dropped to single. And now I'm playing around a 4-5 hdcp. Time to start practicing short game this season more than the range. Also trying to improve my swing speed with The Stack System so I can use my shorter irons more often to get GIR
Just picked an OG for £500 on eBay. After a few weeks of testing and getting used to swinging indoors, I can confirm the data is bang on - it matches the data I’ve been getting on Toptracer driving range. I’m lucky to have very few no-reads and I’m starting to dial in where the ball needs to be for putts - although I have to halve the distance from GSPro😕
I got the skytrack plus and i would say the original is still worth it. The extra club data is all the plus really does and its way of. Skytrak once told me to turn the club data off to stop looking at it. This pretty much just made it a original skytrak
I went to try one at golf bays. Fairly impressed with it. Thinking of upgrading from my R10. One thing I didn't try was hitting it off a tee. Does it work using a tee?
I have had the OG SkyTrak since 2017. I use it outdoors with a large netted cage/net return and iPad. It still works well, even outdoors. Since there is always more money you can spend on golf, I started exploring if I should upgrade to the SkyTrak+. While I like the additional data, I'm hard-pressed to justify switching at this stage. If I was buying a launch monitor without already having one, I probably would go with the SkyTrak+. Has anyone made the switch and seen the value?
This is likely the same approach I would take. If I had the budget then I’d go for ST+ because of the extra data points it provides, but if I only had enough budget to get an original SkyTrak I’d say just go for it as you won’t be disappointed 👍🏼⛳️
Great advice there Mitch. Another really helpful video. I’m using Skytrak 1 & love it, re misreads, I rarely get one. What I can say is if I move my club in front of the ball the red lazer stop for a second or 2 & if you then hit the ball in that time, it will not read it, so look out for that. Also careful with the colour of your tee. Stick to black. Skytrak 2 is lacking angle of attach, so a no-go upgrade imo. Love you man 😉
I have had the SkyTrak in my SIM for a few years now. I have the Carl's golf hitting bay. The Sig Pro Softy stance mat and hitting strip. An LED focused on the hitting area. I have about 1 in every 25 regular shots not register. Usually being with a longer high speed club. About 1 in 3 of the high loft flop type shot either not reading at all or extremely inaccurate reading. Sometimes it will read something that has you totally miffed like a 6 iron with 12k back spin and 100 side spin. If I had to do over again I would have waited and saved to get and overhead system.
You are getting a lot more no read misreads than my experience. I loved the initial and upgraded to Skytrak + to get club data and stay with their software. I think their software is one of its greatest assets. First class for game improvement.
I have the older skytrak not the pro. I purchased it new about 2 years ago so it’s really not that old. I’m looking at getting the software for the winter and I’ll definitely get the sky trak driving range and game improvement package for $130 but what playing software do you recommend? I run it off an iPad with an M2 chip.
You can but you won’t get accurate data. And the SkyTrak probably won’t read the foam balls every time (you’ll get plenty of shots that aren’t picked up by the launch monitor)
Hi Mitch, I think I have a similar setup in my small 1930's garage with an OG skytrak and GSPro. I have been using skytrak range and skills practice of late but now want to get back into GSPro. I tried the GSPro range and operation 36 level 5 and noticed my shots usually seem shorter with more spin or curvature in GSPro than skytrak. Skytrak level has me at zero for tilt and roll, GSPro connector had me around 0.25 for each. Could this be a factor? I was only swinging irons as my garage is small. Thanks, love your reviews
Bought mine in October and have about 3-4 months of daily sim golf under my belt. If you’re not looking for club data this unit is incredible and I couldn’t recommend it enough. With that being said I just preordered the new eye mini lite. I really want the club data and uneekors impact videos are amazing but I think for 800-900 bucks the OG skytrak is a great starter unit

You won’t get swing path data from this device - but for everything else you need it for it will be great. Just make sure you buy the protective case if the kids are going to be using it 🙂⛳️
I just decided to purchase the OG Skytrak today for 995 USD for my first home sim. for my budget, seems to be the safest bet and I really only care about using the range feature for practice and dialing in distances as opposed to sim play rounds and worrying about club data. Your videos have been a big help in my deciding and knowing even though it's older, it's still a solid purchase. Space is also a slight concern, my room is 11 feet wide by 17 feet long, how many feet away do you typically hit from the screen with OG Skytrak? I was originally going to get the R10 but I just couldn't accommodate that much space for behind the ball and to the screen, plus Skytrak seems more accurate anyway, for just a few hundred more.
Thanks mate I appreciate that 🙌🏼 and good choice on the skytrak over the R10 - its much better in my opinion. I was about 7ft away from the screen in this simulator and it was fine. The good thing about skytrak is that as long as you have enough space to swing a club it will work 👍🏼⛳️
Whats the ceiling height of your room it looks quite small? Also do you think 2.8M height will be enough for swinging a driver, im 6ft 2 and do have high hands at top of back swing? Under UK permitted development i can go 3m building height hence the question, thanks.
My room is only 2.4m high so I can only swing up to a 6 iron. If you can go to 3m without the need for planning permission then I would definitely recommend doing that. 2.8 you might be ok but until you swing your driver in there you won’t know for sure 👍🏼⛳️
I am a newer golfer, and have a pretty bad deflecting slice with my swings... Would the skytrak accurately show this to me? I want to buy a LM but want something that will be accurate so I know when i'm slicing and improving.
Might sound a silly question but does the SkyTrak ball tracking data get more accurate in a room with a bigger distance between the tee and the net/wall?
Yes you can. I used mine for a good 6 months outdoors before moving indoors. Some people say it doesnt work as well in direct sunlight, but I never had any issues

It was reasonable for irons up to 4 then diverged wildy . Says i hit my 4 170 when i hit my 5 180, and the trackman said 200plus. I did a reset and it didnt do much. It read about 1 in 5 or so the same as the trackman for long irons and woods. Such a disappointment. Its just flat out not that good
Do you have it at the same level as ball/hitting mat?
@@hcpgolf yes
Have you got high ball speed? I’ve heard it doesn’t perform great with high speed driver shots etc
What do you think
