  • n this video I will show you how to upgrade your fuel pump on your N54 powered BMW on the cheap. I show you how to modify your stock fuel buckret and install a Walbro 450 LPH fuel pump capable of running E85. You basically make it bucketless.
I install this on my 2009 BMW 135i

Hey man nice video. I just did 2 of these diy pumps in a very similar way. Just so you know you don't have to cut the bucket to fit this pump. Also, that rubber hose that you use will fail when using e85 and then all that rubber will corrode away in your fuel system. You need to use an e85 rated hose. Trust me.

thanks for the tip i did hear about the hose having to be e-85 compatible. And it is true you dont have to cut the bucket but i saw online its not a bad idea to do so.

@@menjicar hey i know i’m about 7 months late but it’s actually better for you NOT to cut the bucket, the bucket is there to hold fuel when ur tank runs low (under a quarter tank or so) so that the pump can stay cool and lubricated. cutting the bucket will allow that fuel to escape when running low on fuel. you can cut the bucket but if you do so you CANNOT run your tank under a quarter. it could damage your fuel pump from not having lubrication/cooling.

@@kittenzmeow THANKS! I did have something similar happen to me. I had less than a quarter of the tank one day and I was getting on the freeway on ramp that is a pretty tight turn. All of a sudden engine cuts out and I pull over to start the car and it starts up normally. Later pulled the codes and it was a fueling issue. Most likely due to the fuel being moved to the opposite side of the pump because it can’t hold the fuel anymore. So yes KEEP YOUR TANK MORE THAN A 1/4 full 😂

@@menjicar hey do you know what type of crimps you use to get the wires together? after about 1-2 weeks, I get mixture codes and fuel pump possibiliy fault because water keeps getting inside the crimps into the connectors.

@@audiousity6984 it was just a random kit on Amazon. I would think the connections are going to get wet no mater what butt connectors you use. I also put heat shrink on them.

Long as it would take you to set that special tool up you could easily just use a flat head and a hammer and slap that ring loose in 2 seconds.

Would this help my fuel pump run healthier or it’s only use is to Run A bigger amount of E? My lpfp runs 60 on mHd I know it should be around 80

    • @menjicar

Usually to run more E but you could upgrade to help with fuel pressures on pump gas.

No you don’t. It’s so you can run higher percentage of E85
