Hands held high is so underrated. Really shows off Mike’s songwriting skills and his rapping abilities
Definitely
It really is. I still think Mike's best rap is Fort Minor's Kenji, though. That just hits *so* hard.
@@sorv5790 when i was younger i prefered remember the name, believe me, high road, still great songs, but i went back and man kenji, cigarettes, slip out the back, it's just great album, that's why i'm mad at today's rap scene which is prevailing in music industry because it's shit in mainstream, and I don't even listen to a lot of rap, but it angers me because the little i listen to is so much better than majority of rap today
"The Little Things Give You Away" is another of my favorites on this album. I've been waiting for that reaction for years now.
@@driggs2109 same here, along with In Pieces and Valentine’s Day. Honestly minutes to midnight is just a masterpiece in general.
This entire album is underrated. People felt they sold out but this Album is great. LP just did their thing however they wanted. they're innovators!
I love this album so much.
It's actually, for me, on par with Meteora. Still behind Hybrid Theory though...
You're trippin if this album is underrated. The song alone? I completely agree, but stuff like given up, bleed it out, leave out all the rest, what I've done and no more sorrow says otherwise. When compared to THP, this looks like a masterpiece in terms of popularity
true fans never felt like they sold out
@@nighthawknina86 exactly. They have only put out great albums, no matter which way they went artistically!
This line always hit me hard, "When the Rich wage War it's the Poor that Dies" That line is so powerful, we are all just pawns.
Like System of a Down said, "Why don't presidents fight the war? Why do they always send the poor?"
(B.Y.O.B.)
@@driggs2109 something about "expendable" etc... So many good songs or just the artists with powerful lyrics/words, yet so many miss it. Why I love Alex's reactions and the Hefnerds, a room full of ppl who get it.
this line be hitting different after February this year. I was too young to understand the war in Iraq and the damage done when it happened, but seeing fine people who were just living their daily lives in Ukraine suffer because of the ideals of one rich man...
@@meissen1337 100% well said, yeah I was only a teenager then. I only narrowly understood it, moreover as I've aged like yourself.
Well idk if you know that, but as he says in the song, it's a quote, it's from Sartre, so Mike didn't write it, but still the rest of the lyrics is absolutely insane
Mike is just as amazing as Chester just different. The entire band is amazing. I’m telling ya the stars aligned when these guys got together!
The band would miss its full potential even if mike wolud have died not chester. It does not work without the other puzzle piece , mike is just as important!
Mike and Chester' were 2 parts of the same amazing band ever
Check out Fort Minor if you love Mike's rapping
I remember when this whole Album came out, and people were trashing it, and I was just listening to it like... What the hell are all you hearing? This album has so much variety and heart, and all the songs are bangers. It frustrated me then, it frustrates me now. Linkin Park are great, and more people learn it over time the better.
Keep on enjoying Minutes To Midnight, as you know, it gets better.
it grew on me and if it wasn't for the last song (which most of the people like, but i don't) i would put it on par with meteora and ht, maybe even above...but i listened to ATS dozens of times and i still don't like it as a whole, some good songs here and there, but the filler songs and interludes are just terrible for me
@@pandaman4321 I didn’t even know the bonus tracks existed. I only knew the last song to be “the little things give you away”….
But the only song I could care less for is “in between” the rest of the album is really good! IMO
Same here
Easily one of the most underrated linkin park songs ever and the songs lyrics are still relevant today
To quote some of the lyrics - sorry, not really though:
Amen.
Mike is a genius at everything he touches. The writing, the rapping, the producing
This song was written and released 15 years ago, but it resonates with today’s world and todays society/current events more than I think anyone realizes.
This song is so relevant to today's political battles.
Just have to pop in in 2023 to say "yeah, still relevant"
That next song…No more sorrow..is so badass in sound and energizing in flow that your life has an extra 5 years added on.
That song feels so damn good 🤘🏼
As someone who worked somewhere that had Guitar Hero arcade, and that being one of the very few songs on the machine (not to mention one of about 5 "easy" songs), I got real sick of hearing that intro for a while. But man, that guitar chug still really gets me sometimes.
@@AugmentedSmurf absolutely with that guitar chug 🤘🏼
No More Sorrow - I can't wait for the reaction!!!
The Little Things Give You Away. That song has something about it.
i agree 100%
The live version in the Road to Revolution album... gives me straight chills.
Best Linkin Park song
4:35 - I actually have "when the rich wage war, it's the poor who die" tattooed on me.
Also, the "amen" vocals on this song are that of all six members of the band singing together.
They can…and they will. And once you finish the catalog and go back from time to time, they will do it to you all over again. And you’ll love it.
LP has probably one of the best song libraries of any band I know. Very creative, a lot of variety spanning a ton of different topics with a unique sound for almost every album. Sure, not all of them were immediate hits. It took me a while to come around to A Thousand Suns for example. But once you get it, it really sticks with you and the songs really hit hard. An amzing band with a legacy that's worth cherishing.
Them, Queen, and the beatles are all incredible with changing their styles from album to album
A thousand suns is easily their best album in my extremely personal opinion. That’s why they’re great
I uses to have this entire track down by heart but since I've gotten older and found a lot of other bands and thought I forgot it but when I come back to this I know most of it still. That's impactful!
Ditto! Just two days ago, my Dad was badmouthing rap when I compared it to written poetry (I'm a writer and editor, so I'm just surprised I've not made this point before), and I told him a verse from Hybrid Theory, "A little piece of paper with a picture drawn/ floats on down the streets 'til the wind is gone/ and the memory now is like the paper was then/ once the paper's crumpled up it can't be perfect again." I asked him what that was but a quatrain with a beat to it? It's spoken poetry, given a heartbeat. Yeah, there's rap that's... relatively vacuous, about shallow things, but that's the way of all music, even HIS preferred genres. But there's also awesome and thought provoking content out there if you know how to find it.
have not heard this song in years, love the flashback it gave me.
Brilliant song. One my favourites just flows together beautifully. It’ll never lose it’s meaning. No matter where you are on earth the differences between rich and poor is something that can’t be defeated
I'll never forget when I first heard this song... the chills I got when it started and after the first verse I was just numb, still with chills...don't know why. Then when the "hands held high into the sky so blue..." bit started I was fighting back tears... such an awesome powerful song!
Mike’s totally underrated
Just cause it sounds so clear and seems effortless, doesn’t mean what he does is easy
He’s just in complete control
Mike Shinoda is so damn good.
“Sounds super churchy.”
Yeah, Mike is about to preach.
Another MASTERPIECE by them.
Linkin Park just wasn't able to release any bad song. Every single song is a masterpiece!!!
This song shows cases Mike rapping and story skills and that line right there "when the rich wage war, it's the poor who dies" always brings me to tears 😢 🖤😈
Minutes to Midnight is honestly my #1 LP album. Glad we're getting this full album done.
only hardcore linkin park fans know that song, good one
Minutes to Midnight is by far my favorite album, glad you are liking it!
It’s not just music, it’s a lifestyle
Definitely one of my favorites! LOVE IT! 💕
Minutes to Midnight is absolutely one of their best.
Thanks for the video my man!
Hands Held High is actually my wife’s favorite song by LP and i agree with a lot of people commenting on this video… _it’s underrated as fuck_
I first heard this song after getting out of the military and this song has stuck with me ever since I first heard it. Mike echoed what many of us getting out at that time felt and eloquently conveyed anger many felt.
I know all of their songs by heart. I miss Chester so much...voice of an angel
I can relate. I miss him so much. RIP dear Chester.
Midnights to Midnight and A Thousand Suns are two amazing albums. The composition on those two albums is crazy.
Linkin Park and concept albums are so damn great. the ability they have to change it up and not keep the same is fantastic.
That quote on the notebook can be attributed to the philosopher Jean-Paul Sarte, a very prolific Existentialist whose philosophy is widely seen as a reaction to the hell of WW2 in France, and the rest of Europe in general. He and his contemporaries were writers in the resistance in Paris.
This song… well, right when the second verse starts I can’t NOT tear up. I hate to bring it up but I wont be too specific, but after the release of this album, this song, 15 years later we can relate the second verse’s lyrics specifically, to very recent events in the world (that’s still going on, but media has apparently moved on from providing active and breaking information about it). How LP reflected on the unjust consequences of war on the innocent is an awakening to how the world is right now, every time I listen to it. Loved the reaction :)
Thank you for such a good reaction, glad you shared your thoughts. The churchy music was so perfect because Mike kinda took us to church!
My favorite song on that album, so underrated and well written !
This album was released in 2007, in the context of the "war on terror" started by Bush after 9/11, which lead up to Iraq, a war in the excuse of "freedom", but no claims the US made were proven, and the US government was faced with heavy criticism at a war with "hidden" interests like oil. The entire song is directly tied to the iraq war, its impact and its consequences.
If you respect Mike Shinoda, definitely give a listen to Fort Minor which is Mikes side project, specifically a song named “Kenji” beautifully written, and it slaps.
This album came out my junior year of high school and I couldn't listen to anything else the summer before senior year. These songs are still pure gold
Mike really shines here. By the way Alex, don't know if you've checked out Post Traumatic, Mike's solo album that he made to be his story after Chester passed. It's a beautiful piece of art that I'd check out when you're in the mood. Post traumatic is full of incredible music that spans from the very sad to the very hopeful. It really helped me deal with my brother's death too.
Definitely listen to Iridescent. One of LP’s most beautiful songs and it often gets overlooked.
Absolutely the artist’s beauty part!
Meaningful good spirit is always the drive 🎵💜...
We’re soul being.
Thanks for sharing ✨
I can't listen to these songs the same way anymore now that Chester is gone........ RIP :(
Minute to midnight was first album I heard from Linkin Park, we had it as a CD in our old car, I was 5 and it was brand new, I fell in love and always wanted to go on concert of their, but I never could make it cause they always played far away from our place and dad kept saying we will go there when they will play nearer... and then it was too late... but no mather what, I am happy Chester was here to begin with, R.I.P. Angel of my life
Wow!! This is deep! There's just something about this song that gives me chills, it's so beautiful, and like you said it has some churchy vibes to it, it really does. It's absolutely beautiful, and I feel like this Linkin Park marathon is going to be absolutely wonderful. I can't wait to watch the rest of your Linkin Park reactions! 👏😊👍
It always angered me the amount of crap this album got from the fanbase. This is one of the best albums of all time. This song in specific brings me to tears every single time I hear it.
i’ve been waiting for this since you started this i just knew it would hit hard
Minutes to Midnight is one of my favorite albums from Linkin Park.
To be fair tho, I really enjoy All of their work!
Always enjoy your reviews.
Get out of my head! I've been watching you react to the whole Minutes album and it's like I think it and you say it! Our reactions and interpretations have been so similar, it's eerie. Kindred spirits!
Will you do the One More Light album?? Hunting Party?
This is actually one of my favorite albums
Absolutely love the wrapping paper analogy!! It’s so perfect.
Oh shit is this the first time you've heard Hands Held High? This has to be my favorite song with Mike primarily singing/rapping.
Welcome is another one of my favorites.
I can't believe I've never heard and/or heard of this... Awesome song. Thanks bro
Can’t wait to see u react to the rest of their albums
can't wait for No More Sorrow !
The one band on my list to see live... Sadly will never get the chance. R.I.P. Chester, you gave so many people hope and made my teenage years bearable. Thank you
I love this Linkin Park album. It shows progression & maturity. That track makes you appreciate Mike Shinoda if you hadn’t before. Thanks Alex!
This is an incredible song. Probably my favourite from the album.
Man, "Minutes to Midnight" is my favorite LP album!! I'm loving the reactions. This song in particular is one of the best.
This was easily one of my favorite songs on this album after hearing it for the first time. I never get tired of hearing it.. 🤙
Youre right Alex! Nice and truly reaction!
Can't wait for the next video.
When the rich wage war it's the poor who die. That's 1 line from any artists album that I will always remember where I was when I heard it.
You need to listen to the live version, the 'amen's are done solely by chester and his vocals bring an angelicly haunting tone to it
I've been waiting for you to get to this one. Always a must when this album comes on
I've never hated any of their albums. I think they all had important messages and great lyrics. I loved the evolution.
Awesome analysis, Alex!
"Little things give you away" is in my opinion the best song on the album...Can't wait till you get there.
Whenever a new album came out I remember not feeling it for the first nor the second time, but the third time something always changes with Linkin Park. By the third time listening to the lyrics getting the turn and understanding why certain notes/tunes where used, I've end up falling in love with the album. Realizing how masterfully crafted each song is made/designed. By far to me personally Linkin Park is one those few bands that have super deep meanings in their songs and are usually more relatable and impactfull for that reason.
LP will forever be my favorite band for this reason.
Can I tell you … these videos bring me soo much joy ! Xo thank you !
I love this LP binge you’re on. I also loved that they decided to change their sound up for each album. I consider Hybrid Theory a kind of ‘pilot’ for Meteora where they refined that sound, made it richer, and got rid of the grunge stuff like ‘Place For My Head’ (which I still loved). Then MTM broke them out of the heavy guitars and heavy production into a more natural sound. From then on, every album had the essence of what Linkin Park was from day one, but used it in different ways. Mike talked about this idea a lot, about not being boxed into certain styles. Anyone who doesn’t at least appreciate the later albums (even if they don’t like them as much) is missing how talented they were to use any genre or style of recording they saw fit to express themselves. MTM was the first album to be produced by Rick Rubin, who pushed them to just create their music and not worry about being boxed in. That was a rant but it’s hard to get all my thoughts together on a phone. Keep up the good work brother.
This made me subscribe. F,in love it.
There’s a reason Minutes To Midnight is my favorite LP album. It’s amazing. ❤️
The depth of the story he is trying to tell isn't even from line to line, but changes a perspective between each verse.
The first verse almost has a light hearted or joking between friends feel to it. How everyone knows what is going on but doesn't take it seriously. ending with "For a leader so nervous in an obvious way
Stuttering and mumbling for nightly news to replay
And the rest of the world watching at the end of the day
In the living room, laughing like, "What did he say?""
Where the second verse brings in the real life fear and reality of what he is trying to say ending with
"Meanwhile, the leader just talks away
Stuttering and mumbling for nightly news to replay
The rest of the world watching at the end of the day
Both scared and angry, like "What did he say?""
That's me anyway.
Minutes to Midnight was a shift, but it's still in my favorite albums. Love it. Here goes my request once again for you to review Reanimation after Minutes to Midnight!
People didn't like this album? I loved it. Crazy.
The album came out in 2007 and this song speaks volumes on everything going on today. "when you can't put gas in your tank" for example
man if you want to see how good mike is at telling a story you should listen to "fort minor - Kenji" you will not be disappointed.
Bro this channel and everything you do is awesome. Not just another airhead yelling “another banger” and that’s it lol
Thanks for brightening my morning, mate. Have a great day 🦘
I hold Minutes to Midnight as LP's third best album. Mostly cause I grew up with the first three albums but I have the entire album in my playlist, not a single bad song on it.
IM OVER HERE SCREAMING MY HEAD OFF I KNEW YOU WOULD LOVE THIS SONG OMG I LOVE THIS SONG WITH ALL MY HEART
Can't wait for No More Sorrow. One of my favorite songs for getting in the workout mood. Not necessarily the lyrics, but the backing track is amazing. You'll know when you hear it.
one of the best tracks dam awesome!
Mike Shinoda is one of the most underrated artists out there. In my personal opinion I put him o the same level as Bach and Beethoven, the man is truly amazing and such a kind and loving person
In there live version it's so beautiful u can c the choir and u just see it all so calming
You have to check out Fort Minor, Mike Shinoda's other band. His rapping is fantastic on that album
I personally love this song because it’s such a timeless message about the corruption and confusion in this world
My favourite song from this album, absolute masterpiece.
Linkin Park never made a bad song. not one. ever. Every song has a purpose. the people who dont see that purpose are the ones who dont like it. One of, if not the greatest band to ever grace my generation with its presence.
My first concert was with Linkin Park just after they released this album.
That concert was just the perfect mix of their first 3 albums 🤘
This album was there for me during a pretty pivotal time in my life. I had enough of everyones bullshit including my own. I sat in my car one night and listened to this from start to finish balling my eyes out. I made the decision that night to leave the state. It's one of the best decisions I have ever made. I can't wait till you get to "little things give you away". The harmonies are like butta!
I enjoy your reactions more than most. So many channels are lame and say the same thing. Your authentic self is seen and appreciated.
If I could request any reaction It'd be Incubus: Sick Sad Little World.
Thanks man! carry the torch!
I remember buying this cd the morning it came out before going to work. It was a highlight of 2007 along with NIN's Year Zero and Interpol's Our Love To Admire.
It really is very different - but in my opinion it's one of the greatest Linkin Park songs ever. Can't even say why, but this one gets me every time and the lyrics just really hits differently.
Love the way you got deep into the lyrics
We are undoing the black magic and restoring the light. Thank you
So sad you’re finally really discovering LP. Hugs. They saved me. Back before they were famous.
This is one of my all time favorites.
A quote from a song I love “many die for the folly of kings”
