Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. We believe there is a more responsible way to explore the world and are determined to make the transition to sustainable transportation an exciting one. We designed our emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles to challenge what’s possible. We hope they inspire you to do the same.
I live in Minnesota and now I am sold. I hope the company goes public this year and I will be buying some shares.
CCIV is the spac taking them public
@@ianaltobelli7637 cciv is taking lucid public not Rivian..
@@dallaswise135 and who knows if that'll even happen. Been waiting forever for them to get taken public
@@ianaltobelli7637 🤦♂️
I hope they don’t do the IPO. I’d like to get some stock. I probably could afford to get into the IPO.
Well if Rivian never makes their cars madd production they have one heck of a marketing department. These videos are great!
Being in the Military in Alaska, this would be a dope EV to rock in the mountains. Maybe one day I'll get paid enough to buy something like this. Almost started looking at the Bronco, but if something like this ever came out, I'd rather save for it.
The only EV I'm looking at 👏
U got the money I need then. 85k+ easy out the door.

@@moonman506 u know dang well you don't want the base model. Hit that sales tax on 70k also. Its a phenomenal truck, but not for most people.
Yes!

Nice work!!
Hey!
this is AWESOME! I am so excited to see your growth!
Wow I’m truly blown away on how far we’ve gone with technology I have just applied for the Buyer position and I am more then eager to hear back from Rivian. My whole life I grew up around vehicles cars trucks motorcycles etc. I am sitting here eagerly waiting on a phone call lol . My my mind is blown away on the truck the product and the technology that Rivian has made. I want to be apart of this team .
I live in Northern Minnesota & was an early R1S pre-orderer. Can't wait to put the R1S to work up here with all the cold, snow and icy hills of Duluth!
I live in the Twin Cities and look forward to your report!
I'm glad there's some ev companies testing their vehicles in northern MN. It gets super cold up north (up to -50,-60 below F), and you don't see anyone with evs, especially in the winter. Thank you, guys, for testing in the cold, and hopefully soon making evs available for us up where the wind hurts our faces.
I actually live in Northern Minnesota and I'm happy to see Rivian taking cold weather testing seriously. Things that concern me is the truck's ability to handle deep snow - sometimes I leave for work before the plows come and I drive through 6"-10" of snow. Do the trucks have a snow mode? How detrimental to battery life is it for the truck to constantly have to be pushing through the snow resistance? Second, do the headlights heat up enough to keep the snow clear or will I be stopping every few miles to chip away ice and snow?
Saw one of these on an off-road trail on my way up to Santiago Peak in Orange County CA. All of a sudden it was right behind me on the trail, outta nowhere. It sure was making quick work of the trail. I pulled aside and let it pass to see what it was and now I just wanna drive one, myself.
I don't even like pickup trucks but I would buy one of these. LOVE that these are Made in USA and happen to also be beautiful looking. Excited to see these on the road and maybe even order one for myself!
RJ said at one point they were suprised at how many non-pickup owners they were getting preorders from. I picked up a used CX-9 to tide me over through the delay but when I pre-ordered, I was still driving an '01 Civic.
They need to leave the vehicle out in the cold overnight, then do cold weather testing. Not all people have garages.
"Our cold soak tests are designed to replicate an R1 parked outside overnight, which is when batteries can reach their coldest and need to be warmed. In ideal conditions, an R1 can add 25 miles of range per hour when plugged into a home AC charger. At 0° F, because you’re using some of the charge current to warm the battery, you’ll get less charge when you first plug in - the charge rate on a home AC charger is approximately halved for the first hour, then returns to its maximum charge rate of 25 miles per hour after that."
stories.rivian.com/cold-weather-testing
I imagine in colder temps the warmup might take a bit longer unless you plug in immediate after driving, but once it's there it's probably reaches and maintains that 25 mile per hour charge rate.
Zee - then you are DUMB.
salt will corode the RIVIAN.
and using a garage means you can use 120v ac to prevent the truck from Freezing, and leave with a FULL BATTERY.
Leaving it outside, makes the Resistive heater work harder and LESS Efficient.
More places need LEVEL 2 charging , to keep RIVIAN from Freezing.
@@markplott4820 Again, not everyone has a garage and Michigan roads are covered with salt in the winter. Calling out someone being dumb as your first statement makes the writer seem unintelligent and can't hold a conversation. 🤣🤣✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️
When she's saying "cold soak" at 0:58, she means the truck will be put in a cold chamber at -40 degrees overnight.
WOW! Amazing looking truck! Cool to see it drifting and come back into control
That green wrap is s-s-stunning
The only EV truck that looks like it’s gonna happen. I’ve seen two on the road already.
Where do you live? (Not exact location)
I wouldn't say the "only" EV truck that will happen. It will be the first from one of the smaller companies to hit the market it seems that's for sure. Ford and GM are right behind them with the F150 EV and the Hummer EV. Tesla and the CyberTruck are optimistic at best still and I think are about 2 years out, although Elon doesn't seem to think that's the case. Lordstown Motors will be off schedule as well.
Rivian has, even at their debut, presented the most production ready EV truck first. When they unveiled the R1 I was beyond impressed and was caught off guard for sure.
I'll take 2 cyber trucks
@@kraigmorris4323 we have yet to see one Cybertruck driving on the road.
@Shaheen Jackson and yet nobody has seen the final design because it’s not even finished yet.
Past you in downtown Baudette on Wednesday. Excited to see the truck. I was coming back from ice fishing. Hope you get time out on the lake fishing.
Hell yeah #SofaKingCool!
Welcome to MN! Now that’s testing!!! Thank you for testing here!
How long will batteries last just sitting still but running the heater? In my part of Canada in the last month we've had highway closures due to accidents and weather that have lasted between 9 and 15 hours. That is my biggest concern, as I was stuck 7 hours in a remote are in -40 waiting for hwy to reopen.
Answer us please!
Probably uses 1-3 kw/h so divide that into the battery kw/h for worst case. Heat will cycle on an off and or use less watts under constant use.
I would guess about 20 hours on a full charge. Not amazing, but easily comparable to a gasoline car.
These EVs are becoming a portable generators essentially. Didn’t you see the F150 video where it powered an entire home for 3 days?!
My model 3 Performance has been a bit disappointing in the first few snows here in Minnesota and only first light chills down to 20°. I click on this video and first frame shows testing in Minnesota....man....
Does the door handle freeze so that you have use the app to get the heater on?
These engineers have the best jobs in the world.
They’re using their trucks while testing them, shows how useful it is.
These guys are probably the 6% laid off 😢
these cars are going to be the best on market in 2021/2022. cant wait to order one.
Can't wait to see nothing but these here in British Columbia! The natural home of Rivian!!! :)
I'm so excited for these!
Hi from Alaska! We need spec info. Clear specific data. Subzero temps doesn't mean much. Exactly, what minus temps? How long, driving modes? Sitting modes? How long will the batteries sustain charge at minus forty to minus sixty degrees Fahrenheit temps when left the Rivian trucks are left without charging hookups? Then factor in sixty to seventy knot winds bringing the chill factor down even further? What tests have, if any such been done? Lets have spec sheets posted! Buyer, beware! We need data. Also, where else in colder climates have these vehicles been tested? Duration length and numbers of tests also need to be posted.
As someone who lives in North Dakota, I am looking forward to ordering one of these but.. will there be chargers near me and a service shop close? A few Tesla owners here tell me not to buy a Tesla because the nearest charging station other than their house is in South Dakota and they have to take their Tesla to Minneapolis for service if something needs fixed.
I don’t think you guys understand the definition of progress report, should’ve called this video vague report since it didn’t provide any specifics at all.
For example, how much range loss in winter?
What are guys doing specifically to improve efficiency in winter? Does it have a heat pump?
Does the truck have a preconditioning feature?
What are the specifics on the BMS, any special stuff during winters?
Finally a commenter with a brain. Everyone else is falling for the marketing and saying “oooh wow they’re doing such good testing” as if a bit of marketing makes their product better than any other OEM.
I’m seeing lots of commenters saying things like “good, now I know it will be great in the cold where I live.” It’s like... this is completely meaningless and gives you zero info about this vehicle specifically or about how it compares to any other car.
I don’t understand the objections. They don’t have a production vehicle, available to the public, out in the world. Any concrete information they would give in a video like this could change tomorrow. Just take the video as “we’re working on the truck, and we’re considering some things.” In that light - cool video, cool truck. Let’s wait and see what it becomes. Chill out with the negativity.
@@ericanderson1753 my negativity is directed at the commenters who think that somehow the fact Rivian brings a cameraman to their proving grounds makes their vehicles better
They definitely could’ve included more information on this.
@@ericanderson1753 they are supposed to begin deliveries in June, if they are still making hardware changes, I would be concerned, that should be locked down by now. Even based on RJ’s comments, they are tweaking software driving modes. I’m not looking for hard final numbers. Tell me something more meaningful like, “we have an advanced heat pump to improve range in cold climate “ or “we run only front motors and turn off rear motors when cruising to improve efficiency” or “our software has advanced algorithms to calculate remaining range based driving conditions and climate to eliminate range anxiety”. Basically, I want them treat their potential customers with more respect, most early adopters of EVs are much more knowledgeable than your standard ICE customer.
Being a Minnesotan my whole life I can say, Baudette is no joke.
Looking dope AF! Thst truck it's going to be the one to get.
For the one percent.
Nice videos. But where is the commercial product that I can buy?
on their website (it's preorder right now, coming out in 2021)
I believe they will only get better!
Welcome to Minnesota! You can just leave that test vehicle here when you leave.
Saw the green one in Palo alto today
The best looking truck on the market. I hope they make it.
...I wonder if the military is considering a Rivian for its off-road performance (45 degrees rock climbing, 3.5 feet
of water, 15 in ground clearance, tows 11000 pounds, 2 person tent, kitchen with a sink), silent sneak up on enemy,
400 miles range.
How do the Rivian's perform in deep snow and deep sand? Most 4X4 trucks have a 4H and 4L specifically for these conditions. AWD vehicles I have yet to see survive deep snow or deep loose sand. I am considering the R1S but I'm concerned it will operate like an AWD vehicle vs a 4X4. Has Rivian tested deep snow and deep loose sand? Our 4-Runner cannot travel well through deep sand unless we engage 4L. This was discovered after driving on the beaches of Oregon and getting stuck in 4H.
The truck has 1 motor for each wheel I believe so all 4 should be getting power
I love how this truck is being marketed as an adventuring/off-roading vehicle but the employees seem like they have never been outside of an office. I especially got a good laugh from shot of the Indian dude wearing a trapper hat in like -10 or -20.
Should he not be wearing a trapper hat in -10 or -20?
Why would you assume engineers don’t go outside?
I live in MN and go ice fishing near this area quite often. The trapper hat keeps everyone warm no matter where you are originally from (that’s how hats work Tony). Also, the dedication of these engineers to go out to the elements to do their job is a testament to their dedication. That’s an awesome American 🇺🇸 company trait. We are so lucky to have the best and brightest willing to come over and bring their talents to the US, even with close mined people sometimes not understanding what a competitive advantage this puts us in.
do they have front windshield defroster ?
So, what was the range in cold weather?
These once a month marketing videos are interesting but there’s never much solid data disclosed.
Given that we’re a few days from March, all the pre-order holders really want to know is are things really on track and when will I get my truck?
Exactly. It’s frustrating to see all the commenters going gah-gah over a nothing-burger: a truck driving on ice at -20. A model T can do that.
It was -40 Fahrenheit look up the weather two weeks ago in baudette. I also live here it was -40 for a week and a half. So I’d say it’s gone thru the worst for cold weather testing and they have probably gotten some great testing done.
Only 100 miles.
Wish good things for this company.
Always enjoy listening to researchers enjoyed himself… Not just because the data, but because of the insights that that excitement opens them up to. This is a fun journey
Please make it with a 6 1/2 bed
I couldn't agree more. The deal breaker for me, on any pickup, gas or electric is the bed size.
I just wanna see one of these EV trucks actually hit the market lol
unlike nikola, Rivian actually will.

We would love to host you in Fairbanks, Alaska! We've got cold temps and warm hearts just waiting for you!
Rivian and the new Hummer are looking amazing so far. ....sigh, I need to win the lottery 😌
@James McCallum lol, I've been wondering if AMC would stay in business with the slower movie sales over the past year, but not a bad idea, lol.
Iv been following since the concept launch and I am definitely in love with the R1T
Sorry but you guys need to do your test at - 50 C if you guys wanna make it better and that's kinda weather we here in Saskatchewan.
that's exactly right. This testing is balmy weather testing. Bring it up north when we have a real cold snap
Where they were testing was colder then Saskatchewan when they were testing. It was -45F for a week and a half. Nice try though.
I also live in Northern Minnesota, can I use an electric vehicle like I use a gasoline vehicle, radio, heater, defroster and still go somewhere like 120 miles, at 30 below zero, without heavy coat and gloves ?
Isn’t this meant to be released by now? Why is it still in testing stage?
How are things going to be able to stop on a road covered in snow with so much weight ?
My electric ice auger for fishing will not work in -20f, do these have heaters on the cells? If so what battery heats the cells
This is exciting!
Sooooo what were the results?
Does this thing have a heat pump? Otherwise, the supposed 300+ mile range will be cut in half in these weather conditions.
No braking test?
I want, but can't afford.
Maybe they can do a hatchback adventure car. Not super rugged like a truck but something that is still made for adventurers. Might be able to afford something like that.
Just wait like 4 years after comes out, trust me I paid for my Bolt ev 2017 $38,000 dls,now you could find it in the used market from $11,000 to $16,000 with only 30,000 miles on the odometer,im like daammmm it I should of waited for it!!🤔
Their first car was going to be a smaller sports car but they scrapped it. I think if these trucks go good then they should bring it back. Or maybe some kind of rally car would be cool too.
@@graybass5661 ya I've heard rumors of a ralley car. I know they are doing some sort of small car for the Asian market.
Why park them inside? Is the shop heated ?
Why do wont to see them clean the snow off for 5mins or drive the truck lol but i get your point.
BRIAN - you can park outside if you want, but UNLESS plugged in, it's NOT going to start.
Dear Rivian,
Consider this a love letter from a fan. I’ve been following you for a long while now. Yours is really the only electric veh I’m interested in. But could you please put more actual car info on the website. For example- the tires. You say all-terrain tires. Can you tell me what that means. Because those of us that offroad know that there is a huge range of ATs these days, from more road going ones to really hybrids between an AT and a mudder. How about the actual brand and size. Because I also need to calculate the tire wall height so I can figure out whether I can keep those 20s or whether I will need to find an 18 inch solution. You went down the same road Land Rover did with the 20s, which are generally not great for actual offroading. And I get it, it’s the brake calipers, but Compomotive UK makes 18s that fit over the LR4’s calipers with no spacers, so it can be done. How about figuring that out and giving us an 18 in option. And I hope lift rods will work on the air suspension to allow bigger tires. And I hope that we can disable the air suspension ECU by pulling a fuse before going out into the bush so it can’t fail when we’re in a place where we can’t fix it. And I see you mention front tow hooks, are there ones in the rear? Cause when you are stuck sometimes you need to be pulled out from the back. And how about a winch? That really ought to be an option from the factory for this type of vehicle. Or certainly easily added. Or a bull bar style bumper? Please don’t make us an iphone with wheels that we can’t modify. You’re marketing this as an adventure vehicle. To truly be one it has to be capable of being easily modified so that people can modify it for their specific climates and offroad adventures because they are not all the same and there is no way you can sell everyone the exact vehicle they will need. I know you guys have gone to overlanding shows and things, please show me that you learned things while you there. The kitchen camp is cool and a great idea, but I can always get an aluminum roll up table and $150 propane grill and burner. But if I buy it and it doesn’t have rear tow hooks or you can’t put a winch on it, it’s useless to me.
Signed,
Hopefully a customer
Keep it up guys (From a Tesla Fan & Shareholder)
But how well will the trucks handle regular summer days of >40 degrees cent and sand? Really interested in the R1. Come to Dubai.

Mass production and lowering the cost.
Can't wait to take delivery in June, LA Silver Launch Edition with 20" AT tires, Ocean Coast interior. I'll be towing a 30' Airstream Flying Cloud (~7,800 lbs.) so will be very interested in how much of a hit it takes on the range (Rivian estimates 50% less range at full 11,000 lbs tow load).
Seems equivalent to most gas & diesel engines regarding less range.
Keep up updated when you get it and get some towing miles on it. I’m very interested in seeing the range with a 8-9k load hooked up.
Let me know Paul your experience with your Airstream if can use the outlet of your Rivian to feed your Flying Cloud. I have 25' Airstream Flying Cloud and wait for my Rivian pre-order. But I expect to my Rivian in late 2022 ;-(

Can you release that camo paint scheme?!
Can you use it in real depth of snow please?
Have heard there won’t be a heat pump on the R1T or S. In cold weather won’t that be a huge negative and drain on battery power? Thoughts?
Found this on a forum: “Apparently the answer is "No", at least not at first. I was wondering the same so I emailed the question to customer service and this was the response: "Our vehicles do not use a heat pump system, they have been tested and designed to provide optimal cabin comfort with outdoor temperatures spanning -20F to 110F. Outside that range, our HVAC system will still deliver relative comfort to occupants so that they can safely operate the vehicle."
Just goes to show that this is all a bunch of marketing gobble-gook.
Where do you charge it?
@Frugal Family Living Yeah I remember they do that sometimes for these long journeys just in case they can’t find a charger. This really needs to change.
@Frugal Family Living watch the video at 020 mark front bumper.
@Frugal Family Living I'm pretty sure this isn't true and I've provided just as much evidence as you did.

Sadly, I dont have the income to to purchase one of the amazing vehicles. Having said that, this product moves me in a way tesla never did, despite the two being similar but different.
Just love it /them. I think I'll be the guy the showroom people know well, as they recognise me looking at the trucks through the showroom glass yet again :D.

These videos are very effective marketing. Since they started publishing, I keep hearing people say "Rivian is doing so much testing! Is ________ company doing testing?" It just goes to show what a little marketing can do. We have no idea how much this company or any other tests. But because of the videos everyone thinks Rivian does more.
I want to see load testing (it's a ute) and I want ti see what happens if you put chunkier tires on it? Doest that affect the range?
@@nicfletcher7653 tires would 100% effect the range. Using sport vs eco on a Tesla makes a difference. Not sure what the difference would be tho.
These are not test they are marketing schemes designed to fool the consumer. Not a drop of any information was given only a pretty video.
omg can i join but like this is me after 5 mins🤮 i really love the green pattern
Very cool update. So happy to see insights into the development.
This Canadian is v impressed
By what? They didn’t share a single spec. This is literally just a video of a truck driving on ice.
Mate, if you've ever start/stopped on snow you'll see exactly what I mean. These guys gave it the beans with hardly any tire slip
I am excited to see some real attention being paid to the cold weather performance of an electric vehicle. As a fellow Canadian, understanding that batteries don’t do well in the cold this is very cool. Plus the traction control looks awesome! I’ve spun out in my F150 on very little ice.
@@danielfaliszewski3898 oh sure the trac control looked good. We don’t know about battery performance tho.
