  • In this video I show you how to tighten you bike chain by shortening the chain itself. All you need is two basic tools which is a power link splitter and a chain tool. This is a easy task so even people who are new to bikes should be able to do this.

    This video is about setting chain length, not about tightening or setting the tension of the chain. For the latter you use the small screw on the back of the derailleur in every multi-gear bike, which should have the letter B printed right near it. If you are hoping to increase the tension on your bike chain, rotate the screw clockwise.

      Oh thank you! My chain has been slipping and I thought it would be the same adjustment as my dirt bike but it definitely is not. So, thanks.

    So the derailer screws will NOT tighten the chain? The only way is to cut and remove a link/links?

  • @aestheticcruise8807

    If anyone has a single front sprocket (ex: 1x9 drivetrain) this would be very useful if you find your chain has too much flutter

    Thanks man, this was quite helpful. I have noticed that i have a lot of chain slap and my shifters have trouble sometimes on my bike (the same as yours, the stance) do u also have this problem?
    if this isn't the problem do u think it might be the derailleur hanger or something like that?

    • @IanMac165
      @IanMac165 7 лет назад +2

      You should check the tension of the shifter cable and check the low/high adjustment screws on the derailleur to make sure the derailleur is aligned with the cogs on your rear wheel.

    Really with your bare fingers you are going to snap the links together? Nah you need a new missing link each time. To snap em together you will either need closing pliers or apply pedal force. The fact you were able to put em together so easy shows how much you have RE-USE those missing links. Not safe

    • @nakii7624

      Ive been using the same missing link for 4 months and everytime I clean my drivetrain I remove the links and I had no problem with it
