Hey all, thanks for watching my CES coverage! I sort of spoiled JJ's offer by making timestamps for this video myself, but I didn't want to post a 40+ min video without them. But I think he'll still honor it for anyone who wants to answer all the audience feedback questions he asked! 🙏

I watched the entire video without checking for timestamps by paul, then checked the comments to see if anyone took up the task to build the timestamps (I do hope JJ comes through with the motherboard(s)). I definitely saw a number of new items that caught my attention coming out this year and worth considering.

Since JJ asked: any destandardisation and "exclusive" connectors just inflate the landfill. To whom do I sell the card when I upgrade? What I would fancy is angled and recessed MB connector, EVGA style. And rotated dimm slots to the top, but I guess thats optional. I saw a gpu prototype with down facing power connector and (straight) cable routing inside gpu shroud.
If ASUS wants to get really exclusive, how about a segmented debug display on all but the cheapest boards? Noone else does that...
And not to be gloom-only, the oled displays look cool..

ASUS: Nvidia's post child of pedigree GPU's in comparison to the rest (which you have to admit are all below par and bow down to ASUS and the Tech Gods...) BTW, ASUS may still be ok...just ok...when it ultimately comes down to product placement / segmentation and the bottom "margin" dollar...while I hate what they have done to our beloved JJ in the ASUS America Region where he seems like a glorified salesman rougher than a true PC enthusiast shilling everything and borderline announcing that overclocking is dead... Man ASUS got their plane tickets worth of advertising on this. It was a variable speed run of how many products JJ could jam in our faces for 40+ mins straight lol. JJ if your watching make that power connector for your video cards an open standard so other vendors can use it. I think even regular motherboards could benefit not just BTF boards. It really should be the new industry standard. Makes it easier for newer PC builders. Simplifies build process. Limits paths of failure. Assists in rigidity of videos cards. Possibly aiding in longevity, and RMA's. Make it happen JJ. Don't Make it a walled garden feature. That's Doomed to die.

ASUS = the debil. i jest, but 2024 is their year to turn things around. Not a good end to 2023, lots of backlash to a large company that has for the most part rested on past laurels. Hey I love ROG, but I also love getting my moneys worth, lets work towards a brighter future for all of tech!

I expect to see these cards pulled out of Roman's basement for a video in 2034. The only way I see something like this ever taking off is part of some new ATX replacement standard. Maybe around the time DRAM becomes part of the desktop CPU package and boards remove expandable memory.

Yes, JJ and Paul is such an OG duo that we all love back in the Newegg days!

  • @BeardedFrog
    @BeardedFrog Год назад +18

I love the GPU power connection being connected via an additional slot like this. I like the idea of moving all these connectors to the back. It's stupid not to do it with the GPU. The GPU is the most intrusive, and airflow blocking cable in any case (especially now that they're mounting the dang things on the middle of the cards). Otherwise the rest of them are 99.99% aesthetic, as the other cables are barely exposed on the airflow side of cases anyway (though that's still the only real benefit overall).
That being said, I entirely side with Paul. We need standardization for this. All these companies, Asus included are doing it their own proprietary way. Likely with a bit of greed involved, as they hope to lock you into buying ALL their parts (a concerning growing trend in general with PC parts lately).
If this is going to take off we need PC parts and case manufacturerers to get together and decide on a standard. Otherwise, from a consumer standpoint it sucks. Without standardization not only do you limit your choices and options when buying/building a PC, but later down the road when you want to upgrade or replace a part as well.
Take GN's review of Dell/Alienware prebuilts for example. Because they all use goofy non standard motherboards, and power supplies, etc you can't replace/upgrade anything in those systems. It sucks for consumers, and it leads to more e-waste.
All you companies need to suck it up and come together, or some third party needs to do it for you. If nothing else, having standardization minimizes a companies risk if an issue arrises with the connector. Look at the already massive amount of issues with the 12hvr connector. Nvidia is getting blamed, and they didn't even design it. Imagine the blowback for Asus if there is an issue like that with one of these connectors they entirely designed.

I kinda love that BTF design and wish ASUS all the best in getting more partners building cases with that in mind. As someone who just built a new PC in a heavy, beast of a case (the 7000d) it sure would have been nice to just work from the backside for wiring up everything.

QUESTTIONS (let them know in the comments):
    1. AIO Screen, are you Team Square or Team Circle? (2:18)
    2. Tubing, are you Team Soft Tubing or Team Hard Tubing? (4:18)
    3. Are you happy to pay (a bit) more to have solder pins covered on the (front) of BTF motherboards? (12:59)
    4. What’s your screen size, resolution, and refresh rate (maybe, also, LED or OLED)? (16:36)
    5. Would you like the ALB01 Aura Monitor Light Bar to have RGB colors paired with on screen colors? (26:31)
    6. Keyboards, are you Team Clicky or Team Linear? (28:58)
    7. Microphones, are you on a boom arm, or on a desk top? (32:40)
    8. Have you done the two-handed graphics card line up dance? (39:52)
    9. (Pauls Question) Would you be willing to buy a paired-for-life BTF Motherboard and Graphics Card (9:29)
    1, Square
    2, Hard
3, BTF is mostly about aesthetics, so a bit more for a better look is good by me
    4, 45 inch, 3440x1440, 240Hz OLED
    5, Yes
    6, Linear
    7, Boom
    8, Yes
9, Not until it's more established. Although not necessarily "paired for life", until I could be confident that I wouldn't need to make performance or aesthetic compromises to remain in the BTF segment I won't be comfortable making BTF purchases.
    OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:
Good time (next couple of months) to pick up the Strix AIO’s at a discount. (3:19)
The white z790 Formula build with the WB CPU cooler lists Kingston FURY Renegade RGB RAM but is actually using Corsair Dominator Titanium (RGB) RAM. (3:58)
BTF stuff will launch first in the TUF gaming line, not the ROG line (which is typical). (10:54)
BTF will still have some wires (sometimes black on all-white builds) for some things like AIO (11:30)
BTF chassis will support both BTF or traditional builds. (12:03)
PG34WCDM available this month MSRP less than $1500 (USD), PG39WCDM end of Q1 or start of Q2 MSRP not revealed. (18:29) PG27AQDP no firm release schedule, late Q2 early Q3, possibly. No price shared, yet. (23:26)
“Sleeper Tip”, all monitors discussed (at the event) have Black Frame Insertion. (20:30)
Keris II Wireless Ace Mouse release before end Q1, and ROG Falchion Low Profile Keyboard release probably by the end of this month. (30:52)
Polling rate booster (compatible with ROG Harpe Ace after firmware update) releases this month, pricing unknown. (33:16)
ROG Cetra True Wireless Speednova Earbuds priced at $120-130 USD. (34:45)
ZenScreen Foldable OLED Portable Monitor availability, probably, end Q2 priced North of $2000 USD. (36:31)
ProArt PA602 Chassis shipping now, wood (accent) version shipping later (38:02)
ProArt LC420, 420mm AIO launching next month! (40:38)
AX57 Go Travel Router releasing this month or next, priced at $130 USD. (43:33)

TEAM SOFT Tubing would be my preference but love to see a good Hard tubing build.
Looking forward to a next high quality BTF Motherboard with 4090 BTF and a WHITE BTF Hyperion
For a Horizontal mount BTF card, ASUS (or Partners) will need a special BTF Extension brackets HINT!
Solder pins should either be able to cut or use shorter pins in the connectors OR have some (ASUS LOGO) plastic cover over the pins if not covered up with the Motherboard extended Aluminum front plates used as cooling for the M.2. SSD’s.
Love the TUF Fan Controller and TR120 FANs shown.
    Monitor 27-Inch, 1440 Resolution, 144Hz.
Love the Monitor Arm. Does it come with ARGB?
The ALB1 new RGB Lightbar, I noticed in the video the individual LEDs too much, can that not be more evenly diffused? Does it get powered by USB from a Monitor or has it separate power block?
Indeed more functionality in the Display Widget Software for say AURA ARGB would be nice too.
Add a small Display above it for AIDA64 lol ?!
    Keyboard: TEAM Linear, Softly 😊
BTW: ROG Carnyx Microphone (with RGB!) how about making The ROG EYE symbol on a round disk that is spring seated so it can be gently pulled and rotated if used on a Boom. Small detail but that popped up while watching…
It is fun for me to see so many things showing that I’ve asked or mentioned during the DIY streams over the year(s) come to life. The Echo JJ of negative response makes me laugh now. White Cases, AIO 420, BTF (BIG FAN)
Any who, beautiful goodies and more to come, I’m sure. Two thumbs up.

    1. Square or Circle AIO? (2:20)
Circle for life! Reducing the footprint of the cooler makes it easier to plug in connectors to the motherboard.
    2. Soft-line tubing or Hard-line tubing for custom loop water cooling? (4:10)
I have yet to do a custom loop PC, but soft tubing seems more beginner friendly.
    3. Are exposed solder points okay on the front of a motherboard? (13:00)
Since I'm a computer engineer, I think PCs look best with solder points visible. I'm fine with a heatsink covering solder for better performance, but hiding solder for an a e s t h e t i c feels silly.
    4. Screen size, resolution, and refresh rate? (16:30)
Dual 27 inch 1440p 144 Hz monitors but once DisplayPort 2.1 is prevalent its time to upgrade.
    5. Clicky or silent keys? (29:00)
I've been team clicky ever since finding out about mechanical keyboards, but tactile silent switches are the dream!
    6. Boom arm or desktop microphone? (32:40)
Boom arm for life! Its convenient to easily move a mic out of the way when not in use and frees up valuable desk real estate.

    JJ Question Feedback:
    1. Team Circle for the AIO block
    2. BTF seems like a great concept and design. Definitely in the early stages, but I would like to see every company incorporate this option.
    3. Ultrawide 32in, 1440p, 180hz.
    4. BFI seemed interesting to look at.
    5. Yes, update the software for the ASUS light bar to mirror the color on the screen. It would be a nice touch for people who want to use it.
    6. Dual-Mode OLED sounds interesting, and I like it. It's like having two monitors in one. One for single-player games and the other for competitive gaming.
    7. Team linear for keyboards.
    8. I use a boom arm for my microphone.
    9. Yes, lol. I have done the two-hand approach when inserting my GPU.

    - 9:37 - (that one from Paul but I'll add it) Would you bvuy an Asus BTF Motherboard and GPU?
Yes I think so, I am very much into estetics and I think this is one of the best inovation I have seen in a while.
    - 16:38 - What's your screen size, resolution and refresh rate you are running?
    34in Ultrawide, 3440-1440, 165 htz.
    - 20:47 - Did you know that all our new monitors that we are showing have black frame insertion as part of our OLED implementation?

That was an AWESOME Presentation!!1 GREAT JOB JJ!!!! I've always looked at ASUS as a high quality brand, and with some of the new stuff I am even more impressed! I LOVE the BTF system!! (they aren't the only company doing it either, but they don't call it BTF :D) AND I like the idea of the mobo/GPU power delivery.. you don't have to worry about moving your sketchy 12VHP wire and melting something because you have the connector in the back compartment of your case where you can use cable ties to make sure it stays in place instead of doing that in the front where it would be ugly AF - but ASUS NEEDS TO LICENCE THE TECH CHEAPLY TO GET ALL MOBO, GPU, AND CASE MFGRS ON BOARD!!! It will NEVER TAKE OFF and get CANCELLED after 2 years if they don't allow competitors 'rent' the tech... DON'T BE STINGEY ASUS... SHARE THE TECH SO IT BECOMES POPULAR!!! :)

BTF is awesome and I love it. In regards to the exposed solder points on the front of the board, just offer a more budget friendly BTF board with like a dab of poly-vinyl to hide them and prevent shorts. Kind of like how Asrock has their Taichi-lite motherboard. That way y'all wouldn't have to tool&die for plastic shrouding. mATX BTF case(s) with a repositional front I/O (top, bottom, or around the undercarrige like the Lian Li O11's) , and mATX motherboard options , please. . . Wow, JJ! . . exciting stuff from ASUS. ~~ air cooler but if I went liquid then soft tube for sure, 32" 1440p 165hz, I really like the ProArt line of products, And please consider a 32-ish" 4:3 ratio, ProArt monitor with at least 1440p 120hz freesync, and an integrated front facing USB hub, so I don't need multiple monitors for gaming and CC work. Yea I know, I'm asking a lot, just some things to consider . . . Thanks Guys.

    - Team circle or square?

    - BTF..
As long as both options are supported, let's go.
    - Team hard tubing or soft tubing?
Soft... but that's not what she said.
    - What resolution and refresh rate are people running?
    1440, 120
    - Lighbar
Meh, who needs em. Turn on the lights weirdo!
    - Are you team clicky or team linear?

Will that BTF replacement slot for the 12VHPWR also burn out all the same due to poor connection or electrical resistance?
Those contact points are flat, and who knows if it can handle the current passing through it. That, and the mobo slot where it's going into.
600W is a lot for PCB traces to handle, even if its spread out.
On monitors, will ASUS also launch a 45" version of that 21:9 ultrawide OLED?
After all, Corsair and ACER already have them using that 45" LG OLED panel, along with LG themselves obviously.
I'm holding out for a 5K2K version hopefully in the future, as an upgrade to my 49" VA; but for now I'm watching and waiting.

I have a question regarding 'BTF'. I'm a Mini-ITX computer guy who likes to have most computer stuffs as small as possible. So, as 'BTF' wouldn't fit on a Mini-ITX motherboard as they aren't wide enough, I'll guess there will be an adapter with a cable that can go from a connector on an ASUS motherboard over to the 'BTF' connector on the ASUS graphic card?
Also, I use the 'Phanteks EVOLV Shift XT' Mini-ITX case where a PCIe 4.0 riser cable is needed. So, I hope ASUS can have a partnership with Phanteks so they can make a new PCIe 4.0 riser cable with the 'BTF' stuffs on it.

Hi, thank for showing us. On the BTF, I did look at uesless Nvidea socket, I would rather stick to triple 8 pins molex, it be more safer. Plugging Nvidea it got to be at least 30mm space from the end of the plug to the cover to bend the cable and keep it longer life to it. Hide that 480Hz monitor before Linus find it, lol. I had the idea using blade on the graphic card (Oh, that was long time ago when Nvidea intro the plug), I look at and are you sure it take 100 Amps through that blade, it is rather short, should be double that length of the blade if you are fitting 4090 into the motherboard and overclock it. , check it out. Love you all.

I think the GPU/motherboard power connector is... neat... but functional useless. Still have the power connector, but you'll never be able to sell the card when you decide to upgrade. Those cards are destined for 1 owner, then the landfill.
The reverse connector motherboards are actually interesting as case manufacturers have been chomping at the bit for some new innovation, and this is it.

When Paul talking about the new standard come out with BTF I like to clean looks of no wiring in the front and I'm hoping for less issues with a power to the video cards with a power coming from the motherboard and but still we had to hook up the power to the motherboard that which goes to the video card which I kind of like in the back.

Not enough torsional rigidity on the power connector if you ask me.

BTF MB yeah, actually, as long as the support from various case brands is here, lets go, is just moving a piece from front to back.
For the GC it's a big no, it adds a whole coupling assembly and if your MB died you stuck to immediately buy a new compatible one and cannot you cannot just pop your GC to and to a random MB even temporarly, neither give it down the line to your friends or little cousin once you want to upgrade and everything .... really seems like epic bad move from my pov.

The Pro Art chassis should have some sort of collapsible handle on the front.

I love the idea of all hidden connections, the clean look, and doing all of the connections in one space making it easier, but unless standards, both motherboard, case and card makers all agree on and adhere to, it's just going to be another compatibility nightmare putting the user in the crossfire of companies who just won't work together for trying to corner the market in their favor, and theirs only!

I'm looking for a new monitor myself. The duel resolution monitor seems great but wish it was 4K 240Hz & 1440p 480Hz instead of 1080p at that screen size. I currently have a Aorus FI27Q-X 1440p @240Hz that I will setup with my second pc.

That monitor arm has my interest. i recently got into ultrawides and use a generic arm that works fine but i do like the thought of a quality arm.

The ProArt case is a beast with some very interesting features. A bit out of my price range, but that's true of most ProArt gear. The monitor arm looks good too.

I want the solder points more visible. That would give it a riveted aircraft design.

I'm team hardline tubing all day. My EK distro meant I didn't have to do any bends. As for the BTF situation, it fragments the Asus hardware lineup, and it restricts you to only the components that Asus has BTF variants of, and then the stock situation will most likely exacerbate this. I'm stuck with a Z790 Hero, and what if I wanted a Z790 Extreme? Or a X670E Extreme like the mobo I have? I can't get a Lian Li case either. Don't get me wrong, the Hyperion case is nice, but it's a bit too gamer-y for me and it doesn't have much radiator support compared to, say, a O11D XL Evo. It would be awesome if BTF would be adopted as some ATX-type standard across all manufacturers, though... sub-$150 for those monitor arms is amazing! My Ergotrons were quite a bit more.

Great coverage, Paul and crew! The BTF concept is fantastic but without a standard or backup options built in I won't be touching it. Asus will need to work with other manufacturers before l use it and I say that even after getting an Asus mobo and graphics card for my new AM5 build. Edit: oh that ProArt case is fantastic. I do both work and gaming on my main pc at home and that looks like a great option for my next build.
