If you raise chickens,, I highly recommend that you get a goose to guard them... they are instinctively protective of them.. and they are fearless. They will even drive off a lone coyote
Not true at all. Geese only look after themselves, they'll chase a fox off to protect themselves, but if a fox actually gets a hold of a chicken, the geese won't do anything. The best defense against foxes is to be responsible and lock your birds up at night.
When geese pop their necks, it means go away. I was digging a pond next to a lake where Canadian honkers were raising goslings. The action of curling the bucket and extending the mast was similar enough to the goose warning, every day at lease 100 geese and goslings would stand across the road from me and pop their necks. I had to call Henry Kissinger to solve the problem.
Thats usually what geese are for when kept as farm animals. They are obnoxious and are able to ward off foxes quite easily to protect the chickens. also theyre cute
@Grannvale Flame Emperor I went to school not that far away but too young to be into whiskey so never actually went to see it - I'm in Ireland now this past 40 years - I'll have a look and see if i can find anything on it - you've made me nostalgic now lol - best wishes from County Donegal on the Irish West coast...!
@Grannvale Flame Emperor Was looking there - it closed in 1983 and they are building homes on the site....! I remember that they had an area around the entire complex walled off and around 40ft wide which the geese would be able to roam freely and if anyone came over the wall they would be set upon....! Gone now though sadly - I visited Bushmills distillery a few times in Northern Ireland - the oldest licensed distillery on the planet going back to the 17th century - really good whiskey too - they use sherry and bourbon casks and it's slightly fruity finish...! I was born in Glasgow but I swear by Irish Whiskey - i would be murdered for saying that lol....!
@Grannvale Flame Emperor The Bushmills distillery is near the Giants Causeway on the Antrim coast - i did the distillery tour a few times - it was great years ago but the last time i went it was really basic cut away back - Irish whiskey is the purest in the world - distilled 3 times - as are all Irish whiskeys - all Scottish whiskeys are distilled twice - and all American whiskeys are distilled only once....!
This looks like adult Canada geese trying to protect youngsters of varying ages. I once kept domestic geese and when they had youngsters they wouldn't let me near, even though I was the one that fed them.
If it was just one, he would probably go in, but he's not screwing with a bunch of them. But honestly, I think he was just trying to get some of what the geese were eating.
*razorback9926* "The fox could kill the goose, easily." Easily? No. He could kill a gosling easily. He might be able to kill a single goose, although it would be difficult and would risk his own injury or death. But a whole gaggle of geese? Not a chance.
Interesting, there is really only one gosling there who would be easy pickings for the Fox, but it’s surrounded by four adult and three “teenage” geese. This fox must be hungry
There are 4 adult birds, so probably 2 mated pairs. The larger goslings may be from one clutch and the smallest one may be the only hatchling from the other pair.
Many animals have a tendency to make themselves look bigger than they are or more threatening when they are being threatened as the goose raises its neck and spreads its wings wide.
@@SyreshamPBS Goose will construct a series of breathing apparatus using grass and sticks. It won't be days at a time, but an hour - hour 45, no problem.

@Capri I had ducks, chickens and geese for years and no, it's not true. Otherwise I wouldn't have lost any ducks or chickens lol.

Nearly a million Indonesians were killed by the junta just after he advised them and left the country quickly.
Mr Fox always dreamt of being a goose, but due to their rejecting him he clearly looked ostrichcised.

Humans normally are.
We definitely are.

Geese are very aggressive and you don’t want to mess with them

We have the beefy goose over in the back making sure everything's okay while fighting off the presence of fox.

This just makes me think they should add geese to MC and make it like how llamas chase wolves
Why are there heads going up and down?
Snaking movement = threatening. In horse herds, the lead male horse does the same thing.
Many animals have a tendency to make themselves look bigger than they are or more threatening when they are being threatened as the goose raises its neck and spreads its wings wide.
Staying a moving target and not letting the predator get a clean strike on their most vital part, the neck
Its warning everyone else

I once saw a Gyr falcon take down or kill an adult goose in the water. The goose didnt even put up a fight at all. It may have been sick or old.
That's what usually happens. They're flock animals, so when you see one by itself, there is something wrong.
