Was starting to have back issues before. Watching your video, after watching this one it all made sense. Went into gym today and had little to know back issues. Wasn't even going to squat because my back was so stiff. Thank you Chris Duffin going to be following your channel and paying close attention.
My coach advised me to look you up, as he is currently trying out your techniques and incorporating them into his own training. I like the way you explain as everything is clear, nicely expanded upon and overall easy to understand. Thanks for the great information.
Thanks for completing part 3. I very much appreciate the explanations behind the technique/protocol; it's not enough to just watch a video and mimic the movements.
Very happy I found your channel. I'm so surprised you don't have far more viewers than you do. A LOT of extremely valuable information here. Thanks for sharing it with us.
3 years late to the party but holy fuck did this help my session today. Think I'm gonna head on over and join up on Kabuki Strength if there's more stuff like this.
Chris Duffin you are the fucking man!! I was pointed towards your channel a few weeks ago Chris, and just want to say that you have helped me immensely. This squat series has been perfect, my technique feels so much more solid. Not only that but your emphasis and detailed explanation of core/tspine bracing has helped all of my lifts. Today especially I had three "lightbulb" moments and finally felt like I learned how to deadlift, bench and OHP. From an Australian fan, Thanks a shitload mate!
I've done this movement, as an isometric with a med ball, in a full squat position. It is IMPOSSIBLY difficult to do, and very humbling. Great video, as usual!!
Wow that stretch worked like magic. I couldn't help but notice that the mace swing resembles a kettlebell halo. That being said the length of the mace probably gives more leverage.
Hands down the best squat advice I have heard ever. One more little question. When you've reached the top of your squat, what do you do with your glutes and knees? (lockout knees or keep them bent? and flex glutes tight?
Sent by Brandon Campbell. Loving the content in your videos, so glad to have found your channel...I feel like a kid in a brand new giant candy store. lol Thank you!!!
Love the videos Chris watching these video have helped me a lot with my squat tightness and has helped me squat pass the 700lb mark. I am still having trouble getting tight in my dead lift though I have watched your dead lift videos and seminars many times but can't seem to mimic what you are teaching. Do you have any exercise or qs to help me? I have a couple lifting videos on my channel if that would help you fix my problem. Thanks again Chris your a huge inspiration.
Chris are there any videos or even articles where you talk about posture? Just posture in general really, rather than applied to a movement. Since moving to powerlifting workouts, I've seen great progress but am certain my posture is more lordotic. It would be awesome to even just get an article with pictures of various powerlifters taken from the side whilst standing with a neutral spine. Or vids of them doing simple things like farmers walks etc, to see if powerlifting affects posture in any way.
solid series. what worries me is that a) my gym doesnt have any bands and b) i lack the mobility to properly overhead squat with a broomstick. improve shoulder and hip mobility and then give it a try?
Hey Chris, I tried your exercise with the band today and it was tough as hell! My problem is when I hit depth I tip forward to compensate. But when I don't tip forward I will fall backwards. Is this because of thoracic immobility or my ankle flexiblity? I also feel a lot of pressure in the mid/lowback area when I'm hitting depth. Just discovered your channel and I'm loving your content, great videos!
Hey Chris I want to say thank u a bunch for this series! I put these changes into my squats and everything started going up like light weight! Thank u again looking forward to learning more
Hey Chris! Hope all is well, and I was just sent by Brandon Campbell via his new vid featuring you talking about butt-winks. That was very informative, and I'm happy to have found you. Oh, and your tatts rock.
Great video again Chris. I've recently widened my hand position again after bringing it in 3-4 inches as my left elbow was getting very painful, do you think shoulder mobility (lack of) could possibly be a cause for that pain? I.e. my wrists and elbows are taking more of the load than they should?
You said that in the last cycle your focus was adductors and core development. You also said that the focus on the cycle before the last was glutes. What about the quads ? How important are they ? I mainly have this question because altough you have a WR squat, you do not seem to have "out of this world freakish quads". Where does your squat power comes from ? You have freakish back, torso, .... This is an honest question. I am a big fan ! I also have a wide stance squat. Thanks a lot for the videos !
can somebody further explain why open chain pressing can mess up shoulder stability? and how can this be avoided? with handstands and handstand push-ups instead of OHP?
That barbell with the weight on one end and thr movement at the end is an old indian lifting movement, and you see a lotta old school lifters there that do it
I moved from a high bar squat to a low bar squat while also trying to keep my elbows down and it has caused me some really band pain. It has affected my bench also. The pain is in my shoulders and radiates down through my biceps. Is this because of mobility issues and how can I fix this?
sent by Brandon Campbell I have one old mofo in this channel now LOL. currently doing wendlers beyond 5/3/1 hoping to learn some new stuff thanks chris d.
Some great advice here. I'm looking to get into powerlifting and have been hitting Starr's 5x5. I was wondering what kind of program you would recommend for someone around with DL-165kg, Sq-140 Bench-90. I weigh 59kg currently but would like your advice on a good novice program or just stick to what im doing. (Potentially coming to stalls on the DL and Bench atm)
Bruce John Do a program (and stick with it) for 6-9 months and learn how your body responds. Over time you will figure out the best way for you. This aint nascar and doesn't happen at 200mph
I've learned more about squatting from your 3 part series than from everything else I've watched and read combined. This last part tied everything up really well and addressed the final issues of shoulder mobility I was dealing with. I'm really looking forward to seeing what kind of progress is in store for my squat over the next few months. Thanks, Chris.
Just for clarification: The 3 parts of this series (which seemed to be named differently) is this video, "Hand position for the squats", and "Bad Cue "Chest Up", right?
Chris Duffin Thanks for getting back to me. A couple of us have been sharing your videos, and your "cylinder" or "piston" references have been helping tremendously.
1 shit ton = 1 cubic yard of let's say.. cow manure which has a specific density of 0.4gr per cubic cm, therefore, and by the magic of math, a shit ton = 305.822 kgs or around 673 pounds. I think we can do better than that Chris!
Unfortunately a sledgehammer iisnt really the same, its the wrong length and the weight is not proportional. If you really have no option then feel free to use it, but it certainly isn't an equal to a well designed club and certainly not the sholderok
Dan Silverback I get asked about the twitter but I don't know much about it. But when my IT guy rebuilds my website he was talking about linking FB, twitter, and instagram posts or some such thing.
When Thoracic extension was mentioned i expected Eliott Hulse to pop up in the background.
Matt Grainger not really watched his stuff.
Chris Duffin
you should. he's great.
He's a bit over the top on some spiritual rubbish sometimes though.
Matt Grainger I agree, a bit full of himself. He gives good info, but is hard to watch for prolonged periods.
Matt Grainger and immediately shoots off into an irrelevant pseudo-spiritual ramble
This channel is onto great things
Adam Hamdan yes it is.
that "in, down and out" core maneuvre gave me so much power in my core, thanks man!
I'm using a false grip with my hands almost touching the hooks. I'll do your routine and check out the shoulder product,
Thank You!

Wasn't even going to squat because my back was so stiff. Thank you Chris Duffin going to be following your channel and paying close attention.
Those overhead band squats are tricky. Did 2 sets prior to my squat workout; they made my shoulders feel much better. Thanks for the help.
My coach advised me to look you up, as he is currently trying out your techniques and incorporating them into his own training. I like the way you explain as everything is clear, nicely expanded upon and overall easy to understand. Thanks for the great information.

Bill Trudell i thought people would like that.
One of the most knowledgable coaches on youtube!
Very happy I found your channel. I'm so surprised you don't have far more viewers than you do. A LOT of extremely valuable information here. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Great going to check it out now. Thanks for the reply and thanks for all the hard work man!
Quality looks great on this, what camera did you go with?
Brandon Campbell Nikon 5200 with a 1.4 nikor lens
Might really wanna consider going manual focus. Great content anyway! Learned so much.
Chris I love all your videos, thanks for helping the community!
Brian Evans thanks for feedback sir.
great series, gonna watch them over and over before squatting

STAY BIG. Campbell crew checking in. Solid content.
I Like Lift! thanks for feedback
Nothing but quality content! Thanks.
william Rodriguez thanks sir
Wow that stretch worked like magic. I couldn't help but notice that the mace swing resembles a kettlebell halo. That being said the length of the mace probably gives more leverage.
Keith Norman the kettle bell halo is a baby step to the swing progression
Digging the videos man! Super informative. I live in Vancouver, I'm hoping to come work out there ASAP!
Jason Bos cool. We have a bunch of members from Vancouver and Battleground, as well as some from Longview.
Really? I'll have to come check things out!
Found you via Brandon Campbell. Great channel! Makes me wish I still lived in Vancouer, WA so I could train there! Subbed. Love the channel.

Hard Gainer Benny excellent
Chris Duffin. same here!! great channel man subbed!!
Me too. I can tell you that hardly anyone on youtube talk about core engagement like you do. Keep it up and thank you!
Hard Gainer Benny thanks sir
Paul Coyle glad you like
Chris, you look like your about to give someone a telling off at the end! your a beast
Great video!! Thanks for the useful information.
Thanks, brilliant 3 part series.
Have you considered making webinars on the 3 big lifts?
***** thanks sir. I hope to have a product that compiles my approach and tutorials into a comprehensive program sometime in the next year.... hope.
Awesome Chris Duffin Thanks man!
Fantastic series Chris!
I'd love to see all of your material in a book. I feel it'd be an abundance of valuable knowledge
Stevington JR someday if I find time.
Pain free, and hitting PR's. Awesome video Chris. Thanks for sharing
Liking the new camera. And I have a mace that I use similar to yours for shoulder training. Great video, where are you located?

That band technique is a treasure.

guilhermepinto7 large quads are not needed for huge squats. certainly don't hurt however. I do leg extensions once a week for high volume for recovery
I'm not that familar with imperial weight measurement. Ho many kg is one shit-ton?
Hebst Du Überhaupt I was in fact referring to a metric shit ton.
100 kg is 230 lbs is what i always keep in my mind :) that way you know about how much weight it always is.
never mind that lol. my mind is slow today xD
Rob Zomerdijk Thanks for the effort though :D
Rob Zomerdijk actually 100kg is 220 lb
can somebody further explain why open chain pressing can mess up shoulder stability? and how can this be avoided? with handstands and handstand push-ups instead of OHP?
Thanks for your channel. Can you do anything about the constant in and out of focus?
Bi bearfan depends on the lens we are using.
That barbell with the weight on one end and thr movement at the end is an old indian lifting movement, and you see a lotta old school lifters there that do it
Pretty freakin cool to see that brought into the western culture. Kudos to you Chris. Stay strong
Also...thats so cool that u replied haha
your traps are insane brother
BoogerReyProductions haha. heard that a lot lately
Should i squeeze my glutes at the end of my squat rep (so my torso is perpendicular to the ground)?
no, in fact use of the glutes in any manner during the squat is known to cause hearing damage and sometimes hearing loss all together
I moved from a high bar squat to a low bar squat while also trying to keep my elbows down and it has caused me some really band pain. It has affected my bench also. The pain is in my shoulders and radiates down through my biceps. Is this because of mobility issues and how can I fix this?

would the band squat help me keep my elbows down during the barbell squat?
when I grow up I want to be just like Chris Duffin
talder123 haha.
Where's part two and one? I can't find them
I'm just looking for some articles on shit-ton. Should I try Google Scholar?
I've learned more about squatting from your 3 part series than from everything else I've watched and read combined. This last part tied everything up really well and addressed the final issues of shoulder mobility I was dealing with. I'm really looking forward to seeing what kind of progress is in store for my squat over the next few months. Thanks, Chris.
Andy Awad not a problem. why I put it out there.
You reshot this just for the lighting that adds 20lbs to your physique didn't you Chris...
Eat. Sleep. Train. haha! Camera was bouncing around to much so went back to using tripod
How would you recommend implementing this? Before squatting, after or on a separate day? Once or twice a week?
Alex Netemeyer before squatting. You can do more frequently and it would be beneficial.
Just for clarification: The 3 parts of this series (which seemed to be named differently) is this video, "Hand position for the squats", and "Bad Cue "Chest Up", right?
Sam Roza yes. Those are the first two parts
Chris Duffin Thanks for getting back to me. A couple of us have been sharing your videos, and your "cylinder" or "piston" references have been helping tremendously.
This made my traps burn like hell is that what I should be expecting?
***** much better thanks alot Chris!

Brandon sent me, great info, awesome tats!
Eric Burke thanks sir!
The tool at the end of the vid could be substituted with a sledge hammer
Unfortunately a sledgehammer iisnt really the same, its the wrong length and the weight is not proportional. If you really have no option then feel free to use it, but it certainly isn't an equal to a well designed club and certainly not the sholderok
Is there a reason for you not wearing a shirt?
***** I rarely wear shirts due to lack of sweating (genetic issue) and I think my new tattoo looks pretty badass on camera.
Because he is chris fucking duffin dude.... that simple.
@@chrisduffin8513 I apologize for the passive aggression. Great physique, cool ink.
bro love ure tats
gdartfrog thanks sir
Awesome video need a new camera man though hahah.
The quality of video is amazing just in out of focus a few times, but all the matters is the awesome information you are always throwing out there!
I love your stuff! Could you go to twitter too :) - pleeeaasseeee?
Dan Silverback I get asked about the twitter but I don't know much about it. But when my IT guy rebuilds my website he was talking about linking FB, twitter, and instagram posts or some such thing.
Yeah, you can connect all that stuff. I hope he will do it, hehe! Twitter is pretty easy though. Keep up the great work!
horrible camera work and it took 9 agonizing minutes to get to the actual content jesus christ
@@MadScientistDuffin lol kids these days have no work ethic. Cant even listen to the strongest deadlifter in the world for 5 min.
