As a Papua New Guinean and a mad Rugby League fan, I can honestly say, I don't like this deal because it is rushed. When politicians say this endeavor will change peoples lives, I really cant see how. A better option will be to invest AUS$600million to boost our Police Force or teach our local farmers here to be more competitive with producing high standard agricultural products for Asian and European markets. Empowerment of our people is better than building a colosseum when Rome is already burning at the edges.
Nahhh you tripping, we want a PNG team in NRL. Such problems will be solved internally. PNG has a budget of AUD51 Billion for 2025 and you crying bout AUD60 Million a year.😂
Excellent comments. Sport is a luxury and at present both in Australia and PNG, there are greater priorities especially our flagging education system and youth crime.
Somehow I do believe this will work. A brand new project and sports, esp rugby league, and, due to the bigger scale of global security, regional to be precise...can work involving every manner of government institutions, educational institutions, economics and investing into every facet to modernise the game, hence committing communities, social settings, bringing the beloved sport, rugby league to the PNG people. China will still invest in PNG no doubt however the regions security concerns will be manageable.
As a Papua New Guinean, I dont like the motive here, Where's the criteria, such degrades Rugby League itself. Sports should be segregated from Politics
Nah, you guys will do fine. People are just annoyed by the 60 million a year not understanding that we give over 600 million in aid a year. If it helps make a positive impact on PNG then its worth it.
PNG has over 5,000 AUSTRALIAN companies that remuneration that easily exceeds AUSD1 Billion in any given year. What are you Aussies yapping on about? The biggest winner is Australia economically and security wise. PM ALBO deserves credit for this master stroke. Imagine PNG allowing China to have a military base in Gulf Province, a venture that was mooted a while ago and can be revisited. China would easily exceed the Australian 600 million dollars Aussies tax payers are harping on about. Remember PNG is a sovereign nation and can easily backflip on the NRL deal. We can easily make other sports our own with China's willing help. Off course when this happens you Aussies will be having nightmares and sleepless night with the menacing REDS at your doorsteps.
It is in the interest of both nations and people. Australia's security would be at risk had PNG turned to China. Apart from this, rugby league is the main uniting factor for such a diverse naion on earth. Go PNG here we come!!! 🇵🇬
China put $750 million into it. Stop letting the media make you believe that China is this big bad boogeyman. They point the finger at China so we don't point the finger at our own corrupt politicians
Look at the bigger picture. It’s not just about us in PNG but the entire Pacific region. I’m sure that in a few years, other Pacific Island nations might also want to have the chance to form an NRL team. I agree that it’s not just about the NRL or the sport itself but about changing lives.
Stop being negative here. We must welcome this milestone investment to develop our sporting code of Rugby League. This provides a great opportunity for our youths to engage at the elite NRL level for both men and women. We are very privileged now. It's all about being diplomatic in empowering our youths and strengthening our bilateral relationship with PNG-Australia.

Australia already provides 500 million AUD in aid each year to PNG.

It appears to me that something corrupt is going on here. Logically the potential benefit and success from this does NOT align with the spend
When a sports manager starts to talk like a politician and not give a direct answer
Finally we have a Team in the NRL 🇵🇬🇵🇬🇵🇬
WORST DAY IN THE HISTORY OF PNG. WE GETTING WOODEN SPOON FOR THE NEXT DECADE. TRUST ME. WERE NOT READY.

Whoever cut this package clearly doesn’t know rugby league. You used vision of the Waratahs, which is a rugby Union team.
Fantastic for the game, I love watching the PNG team, they play with all heart. Can't wait for 2028!!
How good is it to see Australia stay strong with our png brothers and sisters
Can't even develop our own league here
People just get it, PNG is dominates by China... This is all about maintaining the ties PNG n Aus had in the past
Rugby League is just too stop start for us Kiwis. ... Rugby is the stuff of ABs..much more global..
Yes the enjoyment of watching them pack down 50 beautiful scrums in 80 mins
Andrew you're wrong, ot is one man's interest, individual achievement, and not the whole nation😢
Tigers will get off the bottom from this.
$600,000,000.00
So many zeroes
@@sonjakozman1699Still peanuts.
