This could lead to more than it seems on the surface. People with big voices having a closer eye on PNG's politicians and how the country is run, with a vested interest in it being run properly because they live there.
Players will go there. Not the super stars but tiers 2-3-4. And that will increase NRL reach significantly. Future NRL growth in terms of players and spectators is mainly in PNG. Smart move

Despite the abundance of negative comments, this development could be beneficial for our country. Envision our youth channeling their energy into football rather than firearms.
I believe this will work. A lot of work, commitment and intense searching to bring this new NRL franchise, a PNG Team into the 2028 NRL Competition..of a Coach, hopefully a marquee player, 20 or so NRL hardened players, local Kumuls/QRL/NSW/NRL fit players and a Technical & Administrative Officials..that's a lot to bring together hereon..then improving the Santos Stadium and construction of a Compound type in Port Moresby for occupation come end of 2027. Massive work ahead and can be achieved. Interesting times ahead. There'll definitely be some 10 million supporters to the NRL viewers💪🏾. Let's be positive! 🇵🇬👍🏾
Its not a waste of Australian taxpayers money. Just look at how many hundreds of Australian companies are operating in PNG & generating billions of dollars annually. You're simply giving back just a small faction some of the money generated in PNG. Its a win-win situation. That's why both the Governments of Aust & PNG are passionate about this. So stop your negative comments and look at the bigger picture.

As a Papua New Guinean I find the commentators comment really rude and offensive. Stating that PNG is a Dangerous country. Don't make such comment if you haven't been to PNG yet 😒😒😒
Ive been there and its definitely more dangerous than any Australian city. I had a lot of fun over there but these pampered Sydney boys won't want to live there for sure.
Just out of my curiosity, the Aussies know too well, most of ther key players will be physically tested to its core & hopefully no injuries comes by week in week out🤗
I have a feeling that PNG will adopt a playing style similar to how the Warriors played up until recent years - relying on 2nd, 3rd, and 4th phase plays that often result in chaos. Their focus might be on keeping the ball alive and banking on moments of magic to score tries. To avoid this, they’ll need a coach of the caliber of Bennett or Bellamy from the outset. Otherwise, they risk spending the next two to three decades stuck playing a style reminiscent of touch footy before realising the need for a more structured approach.
As a PNGean, better to ask NRL for it's honest opinion, I hope it's not shovelled down for political gain, also a quick survey on aspiring players views for playing/ living in POM, whatever the feedback, you just need to live here to experience it, this is my motherland, and you can choose, who give a sh*t. PNG em me ya!!
While they are diverting our attention with rugby league and whining about their taxpayer money. The Government of the People's Republic of China, through its embassy in Solomon Islands, is now providing fully funded academic education programs for interested and qualified candidates who wish to pursue further studies in China. After being accepted, the chosen applicants will get round-trip airfare, full scholarships, housing, and living costs for the time they are studying in China. While it takes forever to be granted a visa for PNGeans travel to Australia to work as farmers.
Unfortunately, it will be a bad fit for the NRL. It’s not safe for Australian supporters. Not many PNG supporters could afford to travel to away games. Despite mining wealth, PNG is a poor country. The money would be better spent on health and education.
My prediction, whatever the name is the team will be wooden spooners until 2038 and PNG will look North. You Aussies don't get it...PNG is a "land of the unexpected"...😂😂😂
Not sure about living in a compound. I think it's a waste of money. Not enough quality players to go around now. Seems to me it's basically the same old teams playing in semis now. They don't want to be buying players who are just looking for a rewarding pension. Should'nt be anymore teams in the comp just a grab for money and it will eventually go to pay TV.

Just my thought.
