*Some History*
Described by Livy as one of the Capita Etruriae (Etruscan capitals), Arezzo (Aritim in Etruscan) is believed to have been one of the twelve most important Etruscan cities-the so-called Dodecapolis, part of the Etruscan League.
Conquered by the Romans in 311 BC, Arretium became a military station on the via Cassia, the road by which Rome expanded into the basin of the Po. Arretium sided with Marius (157 - 86 BC) in the Roman Civil War, and the victorious Sulla (c. 138 - 78 BC) planted a colony of his veterans in the half-demolished city, as Arretium Fidens ("Faithful Arretium").
The city continued to flourish as Arretium Vetus ("Old Arretium"), the third-largest city in Italy in the Augustan period, well known in particular for its widely exported pottery manufactures, the characteristic moulded and glazed Arretine ware, bucchero-ware of dark clay and red-painted vases (the so-called "coral" vases).
The Roman city was demolished, partly in the course of the Gothic War and of the late-6th-century invasion of the Lombards, partly dismantled, as elsewhere throughout Europe.
The commune of Arezzo threw off the control of its bishop in 1098 and functioned as an independent city-state until 1384. Generally Ghibelline in tendency, it opposed Guelph Florence.
At the end of the 18th century French troops led by Napoleon Bonaparte conquered Arezzo, but the city soon turned (1799-1800) into a resistance base against the invaders with the "Viva Maria" movement, winning the city the role of provincial capital. In 1860 Arezzo became part of the Kingdom of Italy.

Hermosa Arezzo! Gracias!
Elba Rios gracias a ti!
Thank you immensely for taking the time to share your walks. I love them. I doubt that I will ever make it to Italy but feel that your strolls have given me an intimate view of a country that I'll treasure in my mind. You maintain such a comfortable pace that I can imagine myself actually there viewing broad plazas, narrow back alleys, and winding corridors that are less well known, but true to the quiet pulse of the town. I love picking up parts of conversations, hearing the clink of activities through open doorways, catching glimpses of the daily routines of life. My gratitude to you for making these armchair adventures possible.
Betsee Talavera, what a real pleasure reading your message this morning. I'm truly touched by your words and it's thanks to You and message like yours that the motivation to continue in this hobby continues. I try to show not only the most famous streets but backalleys in fact too, as I also love them for their own reasons. Again, I Thank you dearly and wish you a nice week ahead!
Riccardo
My friends lives in Arezzo and every Saturday we used to go to the market in the open square and stop for cappuccino and pastries. It was a lively place before the virus and It saddens me to see the deserted streets and the closed shops.. Thank you for the lovely video of a familiar place..
Thank you Destiny for your kind words. I'm sure it'll get back to normal anyhow. Arezzo is splendid...it's a shame I didn't film as much as I would have liked. Perhaps I will film more in the future. Dear city to me as well
I love the detailed notes you give about each town, describing the history.
Thank You Anthony, On older videos unfortunately I didn't have time to write much; video quality and sound quality was also less "glam" than newer ones.
But very glad you still enjoy them!
Lovely to see this magnificent, hilly town in the heart of Tuscany again.
Thank you Jack - I hope to get back to Arezzo one day soon... Stunning place indeed
Sempre bellissima
D'accordissimo Alessio

Soprattutto a Giugno ogni quartiere, in tot.
Prego, buona serata 🤗😊👍
Grazie Walter, anche a te
Great video, stay safe during these times.
Thank You Mark!

Vorrei tornare tanto in Molise...
Great content keep going on awesome 👏
Thank You Carola!
Good: You didn't have to dodge people. Bad: You didn't have people to dodge.
True that Sharon, quite a calm day in Arezzo that day for sure!
Il piu bello paese dell mondo
🙌
wow que amable...
Carmina, gracias!
Is there much to do on a Wednesday in September? I initially wanted to visit during an antique market but it ends in august. Thank you
Arezzo is (personal opinion) great to visit in September instead of July / August as the weather is really nicer and not so hot. Of course, though, some special events like the antique markets may not be present :/
la chiesa bellisima
🙌
Claudia Gracias! Todavía estoy aprendiendo, ¡pero espero hacerlo!
@@StillWanderer a mí me gustaría saber inglés y siempre intento y dejo. Cómo se te ocurrió hacer estos vídeos. Yo los recomendé a todas mis amigas. Vives en Italia?
Gracias Claudia! Si vivo en Italia, Roma. Es un canal muy pequeño. ¡Cuanta más gente sepa, mejor! 🙌
Which kind of camera shot this movie thanks
Ciao Alberto, DJI Osmo Pocket
@@StillWanderer did you use the stick to carry the camera because look so high from your respective thank you very much
Yup, a selfie stick to carry it, as it's easier for walking 🤞
Two weeks ago already I bought the same camera DJI 2 pocket do you think I need a special stick to extend the camera thank you very much for your help you doing good job
@@albertodeandrea1240 pocket 2 is better for sure. I think you surely need a stick , otherwise it won't be as smooth for sure. I tried without and it's not very good
les cloches sonnent sonnent
