My brother studied languages at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in California. The pace of study was intense. Students had to master the language course in 36-64 weeks. Psychologically it was very difficult, but fortunately he was helped by Yuriy Ivantsiv's book "Polyglot Notes. Practical tips for learning foreign languages”. The book " Polyglot Notes" became a desk book for my brother, because it has answers to all the problems that any student of a foreign language has to face. Thanks to the author of the channel for this interesting video! Good luck to everyone who studies a foreign language and wants to realize their full potential!
First of all, I would like to thanks a lot for your efforts, i really got a lot from these phrases, you explained it very clearly so that everyone can got it easily. Now i can use most of these phrases in my daily life, once again thanks, lots of love from Afghanistan..
Love your contribution to the society where people (including myself) try to improve their English day by day. 'Keep up the good work' Thank you Greetings from India
I'm a native speaker of English (first language), so I have some feedback: *15. "Sorry, I wasn't listening" is extremely rude.* This means, "I know you were talking but I had no interest in what you said." You should say "I'm sorry, I didn't hear what you were saying." *Never say "Sorry I wasn't listening."* 1. Always say this as "how's it going." No contraction sounds robotic. 4. "Can't complain" sounds like "Things aren't great but really it's not THAT bad" 5. "How do you know?" is not an idiom. It's just normal English. If you accent the "you", you could be implying that they're lying. 7. I would say "That's very kind of you." "It's" sounds stilted in this case, like you are not a native speaker :) The clip from Wizard of Oz says "That's" instead of "It's". 9. When you say "Thank you in advance" you are applying some polite pressure on someone--just be aware of this. 11. Depending on your tone, "What's going on?" can be a casual way to say "How are you?" 12. This sounds...weird. Like back in the 1980s. Probably better to say "Did I understand you correctly?" or you will sound like you are misusing slang. People sometimes say "I didn't catch what you said" or "I didn't get what you said". 13. "Don't take it to heart" is pretty uncommon. Someone is specifically upset about something that may be insulting. I've only said this a couple of times in my life. 16. "It doesn't matter" comes off as uncaring and maybe angry. If you're actually okay with a mistake the person made, say "No, it's okay" or "No worries." 18. "That explains it." is enough. You don't need the first "That" 19. "Things happen" can mean "life doesn't care about you or me, but life goes on". It can come off as uncaring if you aren't careful. You should consider saying "That must be tough". 20. "Sorry to bother you" is not rude, but it's way better to say "Excuse me".
feedback part 2: 43. "Couldn't care less" is used correctly, but is extremely rude. Be careful. 45. "I screwed up" is correct but *very vulgar.* "Screw" is basically one step away from "f**k". Consider saying "I messed up!" 22. "You were saying?" is said when your conversation partner is interrupted. When you want them to pick up where they left off, say this. It's very polite and will win you social points. 24. "Lucky you!" can imply that the person didn't earn what they got or that you are jealous. Just say "Congrats!" or "That's great news!" 25. "I freaked out!" means "I lost emotional control." It doesn't always mean "I'm really angry!" You can freak out because of happy news, because a spider crawled on you, etc. It's very informal; don't say it to your boss. 27. Always pronounce this as "You've gotta be kidding me" "Got to" sounds robotic. Americans even just say "ya gotta be kiddin' me". 29. "Come on! You can do it!" is almost always used to encourage someone in something difficult. 32. "That's lit!" is very informal teenage slang that will be dated by the time you learn it. Only say it if other people around you are saying it. 35. If someone says "Are you sure?" then just say "Absolutely." No one says "There is no room for doubt" unless it's on TV or a movie 39. "You should go the extra mile" is a criticism that you haven't done enough. Never say this. No one says this outside of a bad work environment AND it's rude. It is like pretending you're a boss and the listener is your employee. But, if someone says, "You went the extra mile!", then they are praising you. 41. "Pull yourself together" is often in TV and movies, but it's not something people say to each other in real life, and it's not kind. 42. "You sold me" means "You convinced me." It doesn't have to necessarily mean a purchase.
As a native English speaker, this is pretty accurate. Only one I will disagree with is #41 because it is used in real life. I’ve had multiple people tell me to pull myself together lmao

1:50 just a kindly remind: Don't end an email with "thank you in advance." Many people find this phrase rude; after all, you're assuming they're going to do whatever you've requested -- essentially taking away their right to say no.

feedback part 2:
43. "Couldn't care less" is used correctly, but is extremely rude. Be careful.
45. "I screwed up" is correct but *very vulgar.* "Screw" is basically one step away from "f**k". Consider saying "I messed up!"
22. "You were saying?" is said when your conversation partner is interrupted. When you want them to pick up where they left off, say this. It's very polite and will win you social points.
24. "Lucky you!" can imply that the person didn't earn what they got or that you are jealous. Just say "Congrats!" or "That's great news!"
35. If someone says "Are you sure?" then just say "Absolutely." No one says "There is no room for doubt" unless it's on TV or a movie

Hi, Marina. Greetings from France. I'd like to know how you are able to speak english so perfectly, with no accent... amazing. Please, tell me, because I lived in the US for many years and I cannot talk english as perfectly as you do.
Damien same with me I was born in new York but my first language is Chinese because I went to China when I was 2 and I can’t speak without a Chinese accent and can’t speak fast
@@晓武陈-t3y The best thing to do is work on developing certain pronunciations of certain phonics develop your American/British accent. To be honest, I wouldn't worry too much about your accent, embrace it! :)

1:50 just a kindly remind: Don't end an email with "thank you in advance." Many people find this phrase rude; after all, you're assuming they're going to do whatever you've requested -- essentially taking away their right to say no.
super-duper helpful. Could you come up with more videos like this one?:)
