Worked a treat, apart from one scare, which you might give people the heads up on. When pulling apart controller, it seperated R1 and R2. Managed to find the tiny spring and fit back in, but be aware and make sure everything comes out gently and all together.
I actually had no issues following his instructions. You just have to be very careful & patient. My dog chewed up my previous joysticks so I bought some new ones. My controller is fully functioning, & I saved $60. Thanks so much!
I just spotted this video but Thanks very much. Now I know how to fix my controler when need. I'll make sure to recommend this video to everyone that needs controller help.
i know i came here to change out my worn out thumb pads but had to come back to check out some more stuff when i realize i had take apart my entire contoller. Oh FYI to all who watch this It would be best to watch the entire video or at least let ryan be a step or two ahead before starting, but its all good i replace my thumb sticks and my controller is working properly. Thanks Ryan
nah it's not that bad. At most you undo 5 screws. Once to take the ps4 back off and another to move the PCB so you can replace the analogs. The only thing to becareful is to not lose or bump the spring for the triggers or you'll have to put it back on, which isn't hard. I did mine yesterday in about 10 minutes.
@@unusable4evar636 I damaged my thumbs grips. Or rather went a little too hard the controllers, and the runner grips broke off. Can I use these thumb grips as replacements?
Thanks dude! I'm so disappointed in myself! 😞 I already had the controller completely disassembled and I watched your vid because I couldn't figure out how to get the thumbstick off at that point... When you said, just hold the circuit board and pull, I felt like a genuine idiot! I was looking for some kind of tab or clip.. never thought to just pull on it🤣 thanks though!!
Very nice video, were well explained, did this and now my controller is good as new. Just a note is that certain controllers (the white ones in particular, or in my case the urban camo) have a *slight* difference in internal structure. The reset buttons on these ones is fixed to the battery casing. Also the screw keeping the circuitboard in place does not "hold" the battery cover in place.
Thanks for the video. I didn't even know you could pull out the right thumbstick from the front until I did it during Sekiro after getting killed 30 times.
Hey man just want to say I’m so glad you made this video and you made it possible to follow along and thnx man you help me a lot with the controller joy stick replacement I was lost so thnx
Thanks so much bro, my thumbstick popped out of place and was shifting to the right. With these amazing instructions I was able to open the controller pop the stick in place and put it back together! Thanks man! +1 sub and like!
I did the same thing to my Xbox one controller a couple months back and it was a 2 minute process to reposition the joystick. One the PS4 you have to take the whole thing apart and disconnect several cables and I don’t want to break my controller completely
It was just easier too pull it kind of hard and it came apart quiet easy. My son got mad playing Call of Duty and hit the controller on the floor so it rattled annoyingly. So I just took it apart and the small plastic piece came out and I put it back together and good as new. Thanks for the video.
Yeah, I did it! For a moment I thought the touch pad wasn't working, I panicked at the idea to have to tell my husband I did a mess, but eventually all is working fine... for the moment. The toughest part was opening the controller... Thanks for the guide!
Brian G 80 or more i forget how much it was but i was going to get the warranty from best buy cuz my last controller only lasted 3 months i know how much just the controller is bro
Hahaa yoooo thanks for talking about that little reset piece, it fell out of my controller a while back and I had no idea what it was so I left it out. Just stuck it back in thanks to this video. Nice job, prob gonna pick up some thumb sticks and replace mine
Great video, Subscribed cause you have a nice voice and I like the way you talk in a "natural" way instead of putting up an act like a lot of others do. Personally I cannot stand it.
What a bloody operation it is to replace the only part of the controller that needs to be replaced -.- Had some issues with my PS3 controllers aswell. Was a nightmare.
This video helped a lot but it give very little info on how to fix it if things go wrong (Like the two metal Springs for the left and right triggers fall out with out you knowing)
2:54 is where is starts. And I actually watch this through, I replace a lot of cell phone screens so I know about taking things apart correctly and I would recommend watching the PS4 controller tutorial by Brian games. To the point, and uses the right stuff
Thanks so much you saved me from destroying my controller just one question is it harder to put the anlog sticks on without disconnecting the touch pad because I went through so much trouble reconnecting it
I broke my Top L and right it was challenging it’s not like the Nintendo 64 controllers now I have to buy more pieces for the The L and right. Oh well good luck y’all.thanks for your video. Update I fix it I need to buy spring thingy. Proud of my self!
thanks ryan I smashed my controller playing the trash ass Modern Warfare... wasted $60 on the game thanks for saving me another $60 for a new controller!
Thanks for this video, man! I followed your instructions, and it all works perfectly! My only gripe is 7 dollars for one thumbstick?!?! That's insane. But at least it fits, unlike the last ones I tried, so I appreciate the help.
my touch sticks are losing their sensitivity...for example in COD if i try to slowly move the aimer it will be jumpy and not smooth. will this resolve the issue?
After replacing my thumbsticks with some nice aluminum ones (with three different types and sizes of thumbsticks that can be swapped without unscrewing anything), everything works perfectly! Well... almost everything. The big light on the back of the controller is no longer turning on, but given how horrid the battery life is on these controllers I'm actually seeing that as a plus and have no desire to take the controller apart again to "fix" it.
Thanks for the video. I sadly seem to have lost reset button the last time I attempted to open controller. Do you know if it's possible to acquire a new one?
Besides saving on cost, the only thing I could think of as to why they might not have made the battery be as big as could fit inside the thing is because it might've added too much weight? Might that be a reason? Maybe the bigger battery made the control too heavy to where it was noticeable and not as comfortable? IDK that's just a guess.
Worked a treat, apart from one scare, which you might give people the heads up on. When pulling apart controller, it seperated R1 and R2. Managed to find the tiny spring and fit back in, but be aware and make sure everything comes out gently and all together.

Dark Fire haha
it's so easy. just be careful, and write down what you do and what everything looks like as you're doing it so you can, you know, re reassemble

Sekiro did it for me.

They really should make transparent ones

i just bought some aluminum ones, mine are getting a bit old, thank you very much for the tutorial
how are the aluminum ones i wanna give them a try
+delgado9797 They are nice, I'm getting blue ones, I bet they would look nice
messi the legend Like the thumbstick?
messi the legend Yeah, there is no problem with it, as they both have a same entry part to put them in the main part of the mechanical part.
Im getting gold ones for my gold controller there aluminum too
Thank you so much, this video saved me £40!
Real nice, goes off screen to unsnap case to open when that's one aspect being sought. Smooth move exlax.
