Great video! Can you please speak about Squatter's Rights in Costa Rica? I have heard some horror stories about squatter's legally possessing your property if you leave the property for as little as 3 months?

yeah, you used to hear that.... not sayin' it hasn't happened back in the day or couldn't happen but highly unlikely where most gringos build and live. *but the 3 months thing is totally not true.

"In arrears" means the same in the U.S. It is not just a Canadian term. It means you are behind in paying your taxes.

I'm about 9 min into it, and so far I learned that there are a lot of things in the US real estate infrastructure that Costa Rica doesn't have. Hoping for CR info in the remaining time

Lawyers do not deal with money in Costa Rica. Lawyers do paperwork only. They receive no monies at all. All money goes through an escrow account unless the buyer pays the seller directly. It is a real hassle setting up escrow. Make sure to do so well in advance of needing to use it.

Hi Mike I have watch your channel and would like to know about buying land and paying from here(us) before retirement. I'm a 🇺🇸/🇨🇷 native so Spanish wouldn't be a problem but I have seen homes for around 45,000, can I get a bank here or there and send payment?

I really hear the separation as a good idea.
In California any realtor is the sellers agent unless the buyer has a contract. It's hard as heck for an average person to get a buyers agent. Is that the case in CR.

Be aware Costa Rica law system encourages squatters. I have been fighting for my home for a year and the system have not help me at all. The system remove all owners rights and gives your home to the squatters.

Well your video stated "5 things you NEED to know" you only gave 1 get an agent. Which essentially was a waste of 25 min of my life... because I was a licensed agent for 25 years and I wouldn't think of NOT using one. So I spent the rest of the time wondering what the other 4 things were but there was none.
