My favourite Unsolved Mysteries that I frequently watched like 30 years ago. Unfortunately we can no longer have this programme no more. There are no one left in this world that can truly replace Robert Stack as the host of this Unsolved Mysteries. R.I.P. Robert Stack.

So freaking glad they caught the killer of the poor girl in the first segment. Terrifying story. I can imagine her hiding behind a tombstone, crying and being so lost in that awful place....very tough to watch, nobody deserve to die alone in a cemetery.

Seventeen years after Jessica was killed, Marvin Lee Smith was arrested for her abduction, rape, and murder in April 2008 after his DNA was matched to evidence recovered from her body. He had been charged with assaults against two Columbus women and was out on bond when she was killed. He eventually was convicted for the two Columbus attacks and served nine years in prison. Since he was a felon, he had to submit his DNA, which led to the match.
Smith subsequently confessed to Jessica's murder, and his details from the confession matched with that at the crime scene. He also confirmed that he was the only person responsible. Disturbingly, he revealed that he had used a seventy-pound tombstone to strike her over the head. The force of the blow caused it to break in two. In February 2009, he pled guilty to aggravated murder, kidnapping, and rape, and was sentenced to life in prison and will not be eligible for parole until 2038.

They kill they die they took lives of people. Or keep them in prison til they die. That’s why when they release them they do it again. Swift execution enough of keeping them there clean out the prisons to make room that’s one way. To have space instead of keep building prisons for people to pay for it. 😡😡😡

Joffre’s story stuck with me. He seems to have a gentle soul and there’s nothing that makes me angrier than when precious humans and other sentient beings are forced to deal with the evil spirit of others.
When I became a Marine in the late 2000s, I always remembered his story and I passed on numerous parties (like ones in sketchy areas - especially places I’ve never been before with people I’ve never met before).
Other cases that stick with me are the Erica and Benjamin Sifrit double murder case, Oba Chandlers case, and the murder of bank president Dan Short.
If we knew exactly how many lives have been saved from just this show alone, it would probably be the among the most fascinating numbers the human race has ever heard.

I can't really understand why criminals sentenced to be executed often reside in prison on a waiting list so to speak. Dr. Scott Peck, said something really profound. And that is from his experience most of the time, adolescents, around the age of 15 know instinctly what is best as far as their future goals, dreams and decisions. He said parents should listen to their children at that age becsuse most of the time children at this age have a uncanny abiliry to know whats best for them and parents should not try to thwart those desires and decisions. I was thwarted at that age in my life and thats were I feel things went sideways from there on out. I wonder if that young girl had been allowed to date who she liked if she might still be alive, that being her correct life path. Does anyone else on here have a experience at that age were their parents should have listened and didn't??? If you have I would like to here about it. Dr. Pecks words have always struck me as profound.

I did not understand why I had to study, I felt like a prisoner. That smashed my will, and instead of digg for great goals, the only thing I was looking for, was peace. Later they made my life a hell, when I was dating my now husband. I still resent, but years teached me to not take that anymore (before I thought only to follow their orders, because I was suposed , as a daughter , to obey. But this went going on for years untill I was almost 30 And got married). Now They don't understand that we are not young anymore, and problems still occur. But I don't spect them to understand that, and just keep going with my life.

The older Unsolved site (from '98, via the Wayback Machine) confirms that Marvin Gabrion has claimed he doesn't know what happened to Shannon. Earlier updated broadcasts of this story on Lifetime included voiceover from Robert Stack; I remember because "Shannon Timmerman has never been found" sounds so very ominous with his voice. • @SlickWillyTFCF

Electronic countermeasures flares and illumination flares are fired at specific intervals. There is also something called a salvo flare which fires all remaining countermeasures flares as a last ditch effort. Depending on the speed of the aircraft there can be quite a bit of space between each flare. Pilots train with all of these things regularly.
