Let’s get it right. It’s the English media. Their hypocrisy is disgusting. It was ok for the English to try and kick Maradona up and down the pitch that day. I would rather an opponent hand balled against me than have studs raked down my Achilles or an elbow on my face. England set out to do that to Maradona that day whilst Maradona’s was spur of the moment. Who’s the bigger cheats? RIP Diego. Was a pleasure to see you at Hampden in 1979. You were a pure genius.🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Diego's era was the toughest ... there were many high-quality players, and they hit much more than today ... those who hit were rarely penalized.
And everything he achieved was achieved on weak teams ... he was never on teams with the best players of his time. He had to face the best players and teams.
Messi has been great, but he has been great in the best teams of his era and playing with some of the best players of his era.
No one had the context of Diego ... no one ... all the other greats in soccer history played for the best teams of their eras with several of the best teammates and national teams of their time.
Diego was the best of all!

    • @marcelodiaz8770
      @marcelodiaz8770 2 года назад +1

@NMA 55 NIDHIN JOBI Are we talking about soccer players, or are you an orphan and are you looking for a daddy... soccer, in case you didn't know, is a collective sport... Diego was not in the best teams of his time or in the best national teams of that time. He didn't even have the best companions
That is why his achievements weigh more than those of any other historical soccer player.
Distéfano, Pelé, Cruyff, Ronaldo Nazario, Ronaldinho, Zidane, Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi... all of them played in the best teams of their time... and some of them even in the best national teams of their times.
Disciplined? Many players were never disciplined and you never find out because their scandals are covered... or do you think that Diego was the only soccer player who ever took drugs in his time or any other? The difference is that Diego denounced the powerful of politics and soccer, other players did not and do not
And if you think that drugs make you more lucid to play or improve your physique for sports, you don't understand anything
0 european cups? Where was the UEFA Cup from... Africa?
Cheat? For a goal with the hand in the WC? Do you think he had planned to make a goal with his hand from the beginning? Have you ever seen a player admitting when he illegally scored?
What about the World Cup that England won in England 1966 with a ghost goal in the final? Or the one that Uruguay won in Uruguay 1930? Or the one that Italy won in Italy 1934, Germany in Germany 1974, or France in France 1998? They all won fair?
Ok... and what about Thierry Henry's handball goal that gave France the qualification against Ireland in 2009? Thanks to that scandal, they began to talk about implementing the VAR, and even with the VAR there is still cheating... Only now the cheating is legalized. Didn't you see the goal that Peru was not validated a few days ago?
Do you really think Paul the octopus guessed who was going to win in 2010?
Messi did not fail at PSG? Messi's PSG is a better team than all the teams Maradona played for in his career
It is easy to be the best playing in the best teams and alongside the best players of an era... the difficult thing is to be the best playing against the best players and teams of an era
Diego is the only one of the so-called best in history who did not play in the best teams of his time, nor in the best national teams of his time and still proved to be the best of all
If you want more information, Diego is also the most beaten player in the history of soccer... that's how unstoppable he was... violence had to be mediated to stop him.
He is still considered the player with the best performance in history in a world cup (1986)
And most of his career he played injured... even in Seville
I also invite you to see how his ankle was when he played the 1990 World Cup
Nobody plays a World Cup, or any other competition, with an ankle like that
He is idolized by Ronaldo Nazario, Ronaldinho, Zidane, Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, Messi, Ibrahimovic and many other great players... Are they all wrong?

I remember Scholes scoring a deliberate handball for England whilst Keegan was manager of England. Both player and manager laughed it off as it was part of the game. Not to mention the British media that displayed its unconscious bias towards 'one of its own.' The glaring hypocrisy in the constant label of cheat towards Maradona seems to have gone over the heads of the English.

Yes - a big "thank you" to Tim Vickery for recognising and understanding The Maradona ... especially reg, (the lame old tired worn-out story) of Maradona being a "cheat", by saying; he was the biggest victim of being cheated [intentionally fouled] against. .... and how did he always react ??? ... not the way in which we (in England) have pathetically drool on. .... In '87 I saw him play a couple of time in the Copa America while I was in Argentina ... and yes, I crossed the railway line and entered into Villa Fiorita to see the shack in which he was brought up. ... born a peasant - eh ... but everyone who knew him loved him. .... as someone said; it's not what he did to his own life but what he did to other people’s lives. .... football died for me in '90. No one gave me such joy - at any level - as Diego gave me .... I suppose I'm not the only one - as he got three days of national mourning!

It's embarrassing hearing us english moaning about the handball almost 40 years later. He did what we've all done at times on a football pitch. I'm sure he wanted to header it but when he realised he couldn't, instinct took over due to his deep desire to win. Of course cheating is wrong, but it wasn't premeditated cheating, it happened in a split second. Look in the last 20 years how many high profile footballers have blatantly cheated in much worse ways than maradonna did. Branding him a cheater for life over one moment which lasted less than a second is far worse than a handball!
I will say that I don't think that Messi has been totally protected, I remember a certain game against real madrid where Ramos tried to end his career.

    • @vampireducks1622

Agreed. In fact, I'd argue that Terry Fenwick's brutal off-the-ball elbow in Maradona's face in the very same match was worse than the handball. Handling the ball merely broke the rules of the game, while the elbow in the face was thuggery, and might've broken Maradona's jaw..
