OK when you speak to any South African, one of the first afrikaans (our home language) words they will teach you is LEKKER. And it can be applied in various different contexts. For instance, if you had a exceptionally good meal, you would say you had a lekker meal (so it is anything nice amplified 1000000 times). Or you can say "he is a lekker guy" meaning he is fun / cool / awesome / super nice.
Seems like I remember DrakeParagon doing the stand-off board at docking in Greeenland. Since the camera did not do damage control filming, I suspect all went somewhat well? And the next question is why these poisonous fin wavers (not the kind on the feet!) manage to look so pretty and harmless...
Something worth mentioning re shading of Solar Panels, for those thinking of new boats, is a big positive with in mast furling, is the greatly reduced shading from the boom. Something else I've come across, that also helps to reduce shading effects, is to have a charge controller, for each Panel, so each is individually managed ? It seems to make sense, and would be nice to have confirmed. Anothbshock, was a young American guy did test comparison between PWM and MPPT charge controllers, and MPPT controllers are almost insignificantly better, but may make a difference with reduced shading effects. If I find out more, I'll update. Best Wishes. Bob. 👍🙂
Hi there ! Just watched your 1 year aboard video, and that Vibration issue with the Wind Generators (how much output are you getting by the way, any good ? as I'm thinking of one for my Next Boat )! Did you fix it OK? as I've not caught up if there's a follow up . I've had had a thought of a potential fix, if they're still a problem. What if you fill the Wind Gen Mounting Tubes with Closed Cell Structural Foam? That Should help to dampen the Vibration, and remove the Harmonics effects ? I would try the welded corner bracing first though, but you may still get that Tubular Bells steel pipe effects (remember that Album ? 🙂 I'm effect, I'm thinking you have mounted the Wind Gens on Musical instruments? Hopefully that makes some sort of sense, Bob. Best Wishes . 👍
the foam idea is actually a very good idea! however, i decided to remove the wind gens. they are good for AGM batteries and boats with low energy requirements. one of them with provide 7A@15kts, 14A@20kts, and 30A@35kts. One really tries to avoid the 35kts areas :-)
Hey Peter. It being a public holiday today, hopefully tomorrow 🤞. You know Frik being a IT guy and a huge Elon Musk fan, he cannot wait 😅. But there will definitely be a video on it
I just mentioned that to them in my post above. Presently Starlink does not do kits for boats, and there are Terms of Aervice Conditions that are awkward for use in boats. MV Freedom molded a panning Dish into a fixed horizontal one, but ToS means you can't use it underway. and you have to have a fixed address to which the installation kit was delivered or something, and if its use is noted in another place for more than - I think a Couple of Months from memory - then the address gas to be changed to that or something. I think for boats and aircraft use, Some more powerful Network control satellites have to be put into Orbit, which are due to be launched in the near future, then getting a boat installation kit should follow soon after ? Fingers crossed. Personally I'm not bothered, as Iridium GO will give me everything I need, as I don't bother with online hosting and such any longer, and am not even fussed about having TV or an Audio System on my next boat. Not that I'm actually Minimalist as such, just having been in TV Tech and IT and AI for most of my life, I've pretty much had a gutful of the useless Fluff. Best Wishes. Bob. 👍
PS. From Bob. Have you thought about maybe using Pettit Trinidad Pro Hard antifouling ? You may have to get it done Somewhere they will do it though ? I had my last boat done with it, as it would last long enough to get somewhere, where I knew they could apply Copper Coat Antifouling properly. When I looked into the Trinidsd Pro Hard, there are 2 epoxy primer coats, then 2 coats of the antifouling, and it can last up to 7 years, with regular de sliding, after about year 3. You do have to watch that your Saildrives are properly isolated, plusvhave galvanic isolators fitted (worth having anyway as you dont want to lose your saildrives duecto aluminium loss - critical to have them fully protected and isolated from galvanic action, so a good gap between copper antifouling and the Saildrives is important) . It's why my next boat, a monohull, is going to be Twin keeled, and beachable, with no problems drying out, then at low Tides, I can get off the boat, inspect the Sail drives, touch them up where needed, check and replace Anodes, plus do an easy de Slimimg of the antifouling if necessary, without incurring the costs of Haulouts, apart from when a Volvo Servicing Technician needs a haulout (the boat comes with a Volvo D2 55hp Saildrive, and the Hull seals need an inspection, I think every 2 years, and replacement every 7 years. I can live with that. Best Wishes. Bob. 👍
Sorry can't edit on RUclips for some reason. predictive text screwed up. De Sliding above should have been De SLIMING. Which can start building up in marinas, and at Anchor. Go fast enough, and the Slime washes off pretty much. Should be a piece of cake for you to dive and do an easy de Slime. 👍
Bob, we are in the market to do new anti fouling, but I am leaning towards the same idea as SV Delos....put hard epoxy layers on and then just clean it every now and then. this antifoul stuff is a myth if one has to go and scrub the hull anyway every month or so :-D
Hi there. Upwind Cycling is fine with a nice big engine. 👍 In the planning stage for my Next Boat, after a bit of a gap, and basically popped by to thank you for some Info in one of your earlier videos. For Downwind, I'd used a Cruising Chute, and was looking for something to replace it, that could be Furled. Then you went into details on the Code D Sail, and not only does it appear Far better than a Cruising Chute, but can be Furled as well. I think I'll go with the Heavier Cloth with UV protection as well. So Thanks for that insight, hopefully I'll be in the same Anchorage at some point, and the drinks will be on me. Oh ! Something that may be useful to you, the RUclips Channel MV Freedom has a video I'm which Shawn modified a Starlink Satellite Dish , to get upload and download on their Nordhavn . Voided the New Dish Warranty, with Mods to make it a horizontal non tracking installation, but got good performance. Due to ToC conditions, they can't use it underway, but apparently is OK to use in Marina's and at Anchor. Worth watching, plus as the intent with Starlink is for it to be usable in Aircraft and boats, it may not be a long wait before installation kits for boats, ecome available. May depend on some more powerful Starlink Satellites to integrate the entire etwork. So Future huge improvements in Communications may not be long to wait for. Best Wishes. Bob from Wales. 🏴

Me Again. Bob. Fresh Bread while underway. Have you tried Pan Bread ? There's a good channel on RUclips called Hillbilly Kitchen plus others, and fast easy to make Bread, either with Baking Powder, or yeast (as an aside, dried Bread yeast is very good for fermenting alchohol too, is slower, but doesn't make foul tasting esters, so is good for distilling, and can go up to about 18% alchohol content). You can make the dough, and split it into loaf sizes, Bread roll sizes etc, and once made, can cook one day's worth, and put the rest into sized portions in the Fridge, so can make a week's worth at a time, and just cook a fresh daily amount these can be cooked dry in a frying pan, or, different ish recipe an do Navajo Fry Bread also on RUclips, . To do this easier, I plan to have a 1.7 litre Kitchenaid Food processor, which has blade storage in the bowl so safe on board, and it's big enough to do 3 cup dough, like in a breadmaker, so solo sailing, split it into 3 for about 3 bread rolls for one day, and a dough making session is quite fast. Not sure how well it might work, but to help with rapid heating and saving potentially a lot of gas, I'm going to try a portable single zone 2kw I duction hotplate Safe to use, cools down fast, and I'll put it on a wooden chopping board. Not much impact on storage with the food processor (250 watts by the way ) or the hotplate. Up to temperature then on gas just to simmer on low heat. Best Plans if course, usually fail with the first Contact with Reality. 3 Cup doughnis nice, because you can mix different flours, plus if you have porridge Oats, 1 cup of Oats an 2 flour can be quite nice. Once you have the hang of it, you can ring changes with herbs, garlic and onion, cheese and sprung onions for very tasty Scones, etc etc. Best Wishes. Bob. 👍
