You see, that's why its good to interact with the locals. Ben i think you need to explain to the viewers what you can or cannot eat. So that we can recommend the right type of food.
What about basmati rice?can he eat that kind of rice?
Just about nearly every previous videos Ben talks about his food allergies.Rice ,sugar, soy he can not eat as makes him very sick.Dragonfruit yes.No rice
No soy, sugar, carbohydrates (except minimal carbs in veggies, low-sugar fruits), gluten, dairy. This mostly leaves meats, vegetables, and fruits that I'm able to eat. If I cook my food at home I can modify pretty much any dish that's not fried in a way that I could eat it, but eating out is more difficult.
Food heaven that is in Malaysia. Each year there are multi festival happening in Malaysia.
From Chinese New year, Hari Raya Idul Fitri and we got 2 Raya. Deepavali, Christmas, and many more festivities coming out from the diverse cultures and communities in Malaysia.
Bet Thailand wont compare with Malaysia in many ways. Plus most Malaysian got no problem understanding English.
Respect from Singapore. ❤
Hello from CA .Nasi Kandar originated in Penang, where food traders from Tamil Nadu brought it from South India to Malaysia. Love the people & food!
Correct ! But they created their own food in penang. It was not brought from India. Same with roti canai. In India they eat roti paratha never roti canai
True, ingredients are mixed with local ingredients so they are different
You can't find Nasi kandar in Tamil Nadu or India..😅Malaysian Nasi kandar is authentic Indian Muslims and a bit Malays mixed rice.. it's improvised to suit Malaysians taste buds and likings..
@@keangwooichoo6138It used to be called roti prata here in Malaysia too but over the years it's been widely known as roti canai
@nutzhazel paratha's texture is different. That is what I hv experienced.
"I'm American, I don’t know anything."🤣🤣 That's why you travel.
save some money get a flight they are cheaper i got 2 way flights from Los Angeles LAX to Kuala Lampur i stayed 14 days in Malaysia I only spend 2300$ and I ate the best food great place with 3 pools alcoholic beverages are little bit expensive that’s all beside that everything is cheap you can also get a cheap pu zzy 😉🙂
Yea exactly, those that stay put in America never learn much.
Damn $2300 for 14 days, that's OK for a holiday but for myself I'm living on around $1000-$1200 per month over here lol!
if you planning to stay longer in Malaysia it is better for you to connect with some locals. We are helpful but sometime very shy to start conversation.
You know, I know a German dude who's allergic to a lot of things, but for some reason, when he comes to Malaysia, his allergies seemed to go away. I don't know. Maybe give it a shot ? Or else, you're missing out a lot of the good stuff.
A lot of the local spices have "medicinal" values.
By the way , tonics are banned from allophatic medicine (Western medicine). Along with the witches , maybe. ..it may not cure you , but it tones the body (some as in somatic).
I will say as long as I still avoid the carbs here my body does heal, eating the curries and veggies. Initially I tried to eat rice a few times and got sick very quickly, and very severely for almost a full week. I went back to the no carbs (except veggies) and my body starts to heal quite fast. By the time I went back to Thailand I was feeling much better than my usual baseline. I do think the herbs/spices are helpful. The reality is I have some type of overgrowth in the gut (bacterial, fungal) and it feeds on sugar, so carbs turn into sugar and feed the bad bacteria. Completely eliminating this requires strict adherence to avoiding many foods and simultaneously using some strong anti-fungal medication, at the very least. I've done it in the past and fell off, starting eating rather poorly again and my issues came back, so I know I need to stay strict in order to feel good and get myself back to a healthy state. Now I've been back in Malaysia about a week again and being very strict, and my body is healing again.
@@benfishermin dang, dude. Didn't know it's like this. Alright man, take good care of yourself :)
@@benfishermin You are going into a world of barter trading , where the common English "Sales Law" does not protect you. You're hoping a guy's going to tell you a "fast fix" OR a "cure". Like trying to get a guy to tell you a "secret". So , when you barter trade , you're asking to be scammed. ( 1) For this reason I won't do this in Thailand. ( 2) The Malays are Muslim and antropologically are at odds with Islamic Knowledge , sufi and sufism ( bomoh). ( sounds familiar where the Vatican locks away Christian knowledge.. forever!) You can get answers from both , vastly different regarding "life style" and some oils ..at odds with one another. ( 2.2 ) I prefer "tenyeh" , local weeds where I grew up on an plantation with the Malays. It's not commercial. You can't find it. ( 3) The "proper " Indian Hindu way involves 2 dedicated temples ( .. most Indian temples don't do either ) one draws you the birth chart ( down to the hour and location ) ( in 3 laminates) gives it back to you. And the second temple reads them against the other 2 laminates , 1 by 1 , if he' s in the mood ..otherwise come back next week. ( 3.2 ) Like the Malay tenyeh , the Indians know the local grasses and weeds , but cannot fix you a cure for lack of "talent". Tenyeh is where the whole village argue among themselevs to find a cure for you , by trial and error , by the week or the month or two. ..AND these are the reasons I point you to Chinese medical halls ( shops) ( TCM) , Chinese herbalogy ( no magic involved. ) They are all over the country ( I personally avoid TCM north of Ipoh ,, too strict.)
60% Malay population in Malaysia are Muslims (and plus others races..)
You can date with non Muslims if you feel the Muslims are conservative but mostly Muslims in Malaysia are open minded and super friendly as long as you can respect their rules and laws you will understand and going to love it 😍
Nasi kandar in KL mostly are branch outlets from the Penang's..
That's mean there about 65% of Malaysian are Muslim by faith..
Hey, great to see you hanging out with some locals there Ben!
I am sure you will meet more and more interesting people with time and they will show you lots of cool stuff over there. :-)
Yeah, it would be nice to find a place that is almost between Thailand and Malaysia culturally, they seem a bit like two different side, racy and conservative.
Yea that was a fun time. Hm maybe those border towns of Malaysia and Thailand are culturally in the middle? I wanna check those out
Actually it's roughly 63.7% Muslim, 17.7% Buddhism, 9.4% Christianity, 6% Hinduism in Malaysia.
But that 6% Indians would like to disagree and see themselves as majority because of their schools and religious holidays. It's weird isn't it? Told that person Muslims in India is 20% but they're still called a minority, not majority, same with in other countries with their minority races like in the US with the Black American population which is actually more prominent than the Indians in Malaysia, but they're still a minority.
@@nutzhazelit's not up to you to decide, and every country is different based on history etc. in Malaysia the Indians are considered a major race and if you disagree you can take it up to the higher ups, maybe ask the education ministry to change what's in the books too.
@@nutzhazel they net apply modi policy is malay follow that it will b nice
11:09 consuming pork is forbidden to muslims, and it is specifically mentioned in scripture of islam, the quran. Somehow most of the muslims link the pigs with disgustisness because of the prohibition. So when some bad muslims swear using that word, it means "you're disgusting". Btw, swearing is considered as a bad conduct in islam.
Thanks that makes sense. Even I rarely eat pork, in malaysia actually I haven't had it one time in over a month of being here. In Thailand I was eating it too often because it's so common and cheap, and very hard to find any beef/lamb there which bothers me
Bro... "Nasi" is basically RICE... you can't eat Nasi Kandar without rice.... it's just doesn't complete the dish....
These are the list for you to try local food in Malaysian:
1) Roti Canai
2) Nasi Lemak
3) Nasi Dagang
4) Nasi Kerabu
5) Burger Ramly 😉
6) Laksa
7) Nasi Kandar
And many others...
fried chicken without chicken😂😂
He's on a diet at the moment.. for health reasons I think. Not sure. He is avoiding carb and sugar.

he can't eat rice, he said something about a stomach problem

Hi Ben, the best Nasi Kandar in Kuala Lumpur is Hameediyah Restaurant located in Bukit Bintang,
Nasi kandar is not from kl, it came from penang. Penang nasi kandar will blow your mind.
Cool I'll be visiting Penang within the next 7-10 days, mostly for the food
Very nice locals, that said to eat with them . I'm happy you recorded that all.
~ Tazzz ~
Yea great people, very welcoming
Dun say the word “Cheap” 😂
Yessss please come Johor & make videos here ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👍🏻
Should be visiting johor sometime soon 🙌
Oh yeah, and i mentioned to you before to visit George Town, the same like the guy said, but the Malaysian name is Penang.
Maybe not your style, but interesting place and history.
You have talked about real life situations which is fruitful for those who seek a better way of being and living in different parts of the world. Very luvely and honest perspective.
Noticed the group of locals you chit-chatted with? They are all from 3 major races that made us Malaysians. The melting-pot with uniqueness of diverse, unity and harmony. America and the rest of the world can really really learn from Malaysia. Perhaps each of their education system should put that into their curriculum.
Yea I enjoy the diversity. Even though they don't teach us a lot about foreign countries / history, I'll say that NYC is also a cultural melting pot and I grew up surrounded by every different type of person (indian, black, asian, white) mixed into one area.
hey fello NewYorker...i lived on 75th street E for 2 yrs a long time ago...studying for my MFA...enjoyed it but still glad to be home in Malaysia...
Nice, new york used to be really great but I think it's gone downhill, good that you're back in Malaysia!
I prefer Kayu Nasi Kandar but they have cut throat pricing, the other one is the new joint from Penang that opened up in TTDI, KL called Restaurant Kapitan - its pretty affordable and tastes good,
Nasi kandar is one of the favorite comfort food in Malaysia. There are many comfort food in Malaysia, one of them is nasi lemak, have you try that.
Aiya no use to ask him try Nasi Lemak I sure confirm he just eat Nasi Lemak no Nasi so He only can eat Lemak for his meal 😜😉lolxD
@@victoriakitty520 If I'm not mistaken, he already did at Wanjo, I've forgotten about that video.
@Yasin_Affandi no no no he just only eat lemak only but no eat rice la
Hi Ben...have you met Andrew Tailor yet?He is an American expat in KL.Glad to see you mix around with locals because it will help you to know Malaysia well.
I honestly dont know anyone who rides a motorbike but i do know bicycles are lawful to ride without license. Have you tried Satay or is that too sweet? i know the peanut sauce is too sweet . Have you tried glutinous rice it doesn't contain gluten. Lemang traditional Eid food for it. It does not use sugar either.
I recommend ..come to Kk the seafood heaven n the Mt.Kinabalu..the majestic view...known as The New Zealand of Malaysia
Probably rasmeena restaurant in bangsar near lrt.
Yea I really enjoy this one!
He buddy, You should spend sometimes doing research on the food we serve in Malaysia, its not only curries you know, we have one of the most diverse food offering possibly in Asia if not the world.
he’s avoiding soy sauce or flour or sugar based stuff… that’s why he ate cabbage with mutton or chicken curry… as u know.. malaysian dishes use a lot of those things… plus we love to fry our chicken or meat… only grilled stuff is ok for him…
I can't eat sugar, starches, soy, dairy, sugar, gluten. Otherwise I would eat literally everything.
Malaysia is a multiracial country where Malay make up of 60% of the population and 40% other races like Chinese, India, and natives from Sabah and Sarawak. In term of dating, Sarawak is better choice in term of openness due to christianity made up of 60% of its population for a foreigners from Europe.A lot of our natives married to European here.
I should be in Sarawak then! 😁😁
You should check out Sabah too then! Sabah and Sarawak are in East Malaysia. We joined Malaya to form Malaysia in 1963. The people in East Malaysia are quite different from those in West Malaysia due to the diverse ethnicities and cultures. There are way more non Muslims in East Malaysia and we’re nice people and very open minded too. If you love nature, there are heaps of things to do in East Malaysia:)
You have to try roti cannai bro
Definitely recommend Roti Canai ... It's been announced as the best No 1 bread in the world
Ben...everyone have their own tastebud but as for me I prefer *de original* one in Penang where *nasi kandaq* (as pronouned) is originated.Drop by to Pearl of the orient in north Malaysia.BTW, tho u tried to avoid all the *deep fried* but basically *nasi kandaq* is *a very heavy food* 😅 except for the rice. The rice alone is cooked by removing the starch of the rice.I knew about these as my late father in-law is a cook tho.Enjoy yourself in Malaysia with so many varities of food even *the western foods* have it own touch here ie *Malaysian way* 😁
The guy at coffeeshop meant “St Regis”, not sandwiches. 😂😂
Haha 😄😄
Nice and nice 👍👍👍 eating with hand fast learning different cultures 👌👌👍👍❤️ make sure to drive with out license, good luck
I love eating with the hands, especially for this kind of food 😁😁🙏
Just be casual..mixes as much u can & yeah respect themu re gonna enjoy..& feel happy..slowly learning 😂😂
Thanks my friend
bro.. i think Kugan mentioned St Regis n not sandwiches… he thought u’re staying there… u’ll stick out like a sore thumb if u ride a motorbike in kl area.. maybe if u rent a harley or some top range bike maybe then u look less suspicious riding without licence..
nasi kandar originated frm penang… kandar is a noun.. it’s an act of carrying or transporting load (pots.. pans.. bricks.. books.. etc) using bamboo or wooden pole that was placed on ur shoulder.. the act of balancing while carrying the load is called mengandar or in short kandar.. nasi kandar peddler used to sell their rice n dishes this way… started by the indian tamil muslim community who came to penang during british malaya period.. the term nasi kandar stuck although the peddlers hv stopped selling it the traditional way …. ever since the introduction of pushcarts n now restaurants or stalls..
Nasi Kandar is originated fro the Island of Penang, Have the best there.
'Babi' is a swearing word in Malaysia.. don't say that word Ben.. hehe
Haiyaaa this Uncle Ben soo wweeaakk eat Nasi Kandar without Nasi 😅😅😅😅😅 you will get old and so fast if this not go fix your stomach problems please eat more Nasi and Fruits importantly balanced your stomach digestion aslo we body also need sugar calories to balanced emotional happiness keep young ya you know 😮😮😮😮😮
Take Moringa tea Ben... haha.. it keeps popping on my screen.
I wouldn't say eating more rice is good for anyone necessarily. It's still a heavy starch that spikes your blood sugar, it's not too much different than eating sugar which is proven to be inflammatory and not exactly healthy for anyone. It tastes good and balances the flavors but from a health perspective, I don't believe leaving out rice is an unhealthy thing. Fruits effect me much better than rice, I can eat low sugar fruits like Dragon fruit, Guava, Pomelo, Blueberry, Raspberry without too much issues thankfully so I eat them occasionally!
@@benfishermin HAIYAAAAAA Rice for energy and live longer in age we no eat rice no life and no sugar no happiness Aiyaa you eat the fruits all sour sour tates that hurt your stomach digest cos you not enough energy digest these strong fruits some more u eat curry everyday make it more worst not balance it if not mix with Rice Haiyaaa Rice is grow naturally not make of starch you should visit Rice factory see how rice grow ya Mr Ben Fishermin
I am surprised, your hand skill is good too
Thanks, I gotta be honest eating with the hands is much better with rice...definitely can be more difficult without something to soak up the curry and bind things together
When you go to Saddam you must have the ‘ayam saddam’ which is the fried chicken with onions. Its the signature dish!
Wow. You can scope the rice with hand just like us.
Do you know the nasi kandar curry also have sugar ya..
Our police traffic on motorbike is like US highway patrol that might pull off people randomly. The fine is hefty and I don't recommend riding without proper documentation.
Good to know this thank you, I won’t do it in KL. Do you think it’s any different somewhere like Langkawi, Kuching, Sarawak?
@@benfishermin I honestly have no information about how dense is Langkawi or Kuching regarding traffic police. From my watching, Kuching as a capital city of Sarawak and other capital cities within the Federation have tighter enforcement. Langkawi including other places, if only there is checkpoint on the road set up by either blue uniform or Department of Road Transport, then it will also mean trouble. Better not.
Cheers!
Trust the cops and cab drivers in any country that tells you where is the best. These people toil under the sun and a delicious meal is their comfort treat.
Nasi Kandar Line Clear in Kampung Baru
Nasi Kandar Sadam #1?... In your dreams Pedro.. there's no #1. It depends on individual taste buds.. for me it has always been Yaseem in Jln TAR before Sadam.. the curry is just so tantalizing.. their options of chicken, beef and seafood is very proportionate and high value for price. And then, there's Mahbub Restaurant in Bangsar... Now that one has a variety of choosings of over 30 types of individual dishes curry and dhal... Cheap too, the teh tarik/ais is fresh and not pre made and stored in the fridge. Sadam's customers are catered for different Malaysians out there.
I thought Malaysia was good. I heard a lot of good things about it. I know what you're saying. I experienced the rain. The hot humidity. It's like a jungle within a city. I prefer Mexican food, Greek and Spanish. I'm looking at going to Peru after I go to Vietnam. Vietnam is hot and humid too. But they got Hawaii type beaches and I like the food better. Curry is okay but I'm not like oh yummy! I can't wait to get it. I'm going to Vietnam.. people say Malaysia is the place but Vietnam has all the manufacturing. Beautiful beaches. Food is even cheaper and it's the home of all the knockoffs and you can ship so many things back to the US. Vietnam is more difficult to be able to get a Visa, but I think as far as Southeast Asia goes it's the best place. The Vietnam government is a pain in the ass worse than Malaysia but not as bad as Thailand And it is not dependent on tourism like Thailand. They will be the manufacturing hub for the world. Good place to stay for a long-term time if I like it
For me it just boils down to the Malaysian audience on RUclips speaking and understanding English, and the Vietnam audience understands even less English than Thai, like almost none unfortunately.
Eating with the hand is just being natural
Yea I agree
You need a driving licence to drive in Malaysia.. The traffic police might pull you over... and give you a ticket..
I would suggest that you dont do that... riding without a licence..
You could go north and visit Ipoh, Taiping and Penang...
Yea true, even though they'll rent me one it's too risky for getting pulled over, or in an accident, I'm not gonna do it. Looking forward to visiting Penang and I'll check out Taiping too never heard of this!
Ya as long as you are in the federal road, motorcycle need license, not worth it if you got a ticket fine RM 300.
Wow, you can take curry everyday and not rice ,that awesome.
Yea sadly I must, if I could digest it I'd eat rice every day though
🇲🇾🤝😃👍✌️❤️
😁😁🙏🙏
crazy. 2 hours to jb???
Why don’t you use public transport?
No. The young man was incorrect. In Malaysia, you need license to drive motorbikes.
You are now an expert in exchange rate.
Haha thankfully it's pretty easy since 1 USD is about 5 ringgit. And mental math was always one of my strong points so it just pops into my head quickly.
it's really sad that you can't eat rice 😅
Muslim 60% actually. You can date non muslim. They are quite liberal
63% something like that
63.567% 😂😂😂
Hey man, I was wondering why you cannot eat rice? what happen if you eat it. Is it a specific type or rice?. Why dont you try malaysia rice it my be diffrirnt since we have our own local produce rice. Just try a small portion maybe 1/4 of the plate. For me if you have no problem with our curry you should be good with everything else. Just give our rice a try, maybe it suits you specificly. Anyway cool video.😁. FYI if you have a motorbike license you good to go .
Thanks but I get pretty sick and have all sorts of problems with my stomach, skin infections, hair loss, blurry vision, muscle/joint pain. I tried nasi lemak a few times when first arriving and got sick very quickly. Any starch/carb basically turns to sugar in the body and sugar is my biggest issue sadly

And barber shops.
Yea I definitely noticed this, sometimes it’s tough in these places with communication
Yeah mamak is indian muslim. But somehow pakistani kedai mamak also called mamak nowadays. But their version of kedai mamak is quite similar you won't notice at all. But they're good as well.

You’ll need an international license buddy. Not sure what that guy was saying where you do not need one.
Yea even though they will rent me one without the license it's still too risky in case I am pulled over or in an accident
ahaha pandai la ajor yg bukan2, ko dh kenapa kata xpayah lesen bkt bintang plak tu🤦♂️🤦🏽♀️
Sorry I didn’t understand
Its unfortunate that you can't eat rice. Otherwise eating Nasi kandar would be more meaningful. More complete.
Yea it's completely different with the rice, 100x better but sadly after trying it when I first got here I became quite sick. Now I know I need to stay on track and it's just not worth it, unless I truly heal my gut from the root of the problem (bacterial/fungal overgrowth)
Just convert to international license dude. But it will cost.
Yea at this point since I commited to staying overseas I should work on getting an international motorcycle license
if you like grilled chicken, probably you will like tandoori chicken
its funny the locals are using utensils and you are using your hands
Haha I only noticed this when editing the video, that the girl was using the utensils 😂 I guess it’s just preference but locals for sure usually using the hands
The best nasi kandar is in Penang
That was espensive
It should be below RM 10
The restaurant owner take advantage on you…
Usually if i ate nasi kandar with chicken and cabbage will cost me 7-10 ringgit
White rice : 2 ringgit
Fried chicken 5-6 ringgit depending on sizes
Cabbage :1.50
If you add beef or mutton should be: 3-5 ringgit depending on how much the portion
You just do the maths
You eat nasi kandar without eating rice, that is strange
Yea I guess I'm just eating...kandar. It's a shame but I have no choice.
For real Malaysia Food, Nasi Kandar is not MALAY food, the cook majority from INDIA.Try to go out of CITY, find food stall with MALAY COOK. You will taste the different. Too many chip labor foreigners mostly INDIA, BANGLA, ROHINGYA, BURMESE, FILIPINO, AND SIAMESE work at restaurant. They dont cook like MALAY COOK the dishes.
Yea I mostly eat Malay food stalls about 90% of the time and occasionally eat nasi kandar. The Malay food feels much cleaner / healthier for me.

The food and rent are so much cheaper.. The women are more serious you would probably have to convert to Islam.. I don't like internet censorship I don't like the no marijuana.. I don't like the execution of marijuana smokers I don't like the rain all the time and the humidity.. I think Malaysia is a real mixed bag.. What's cool about Albania is one year no Visa.. They grow all the marijuana for Eastern Europe.. They legalize medical cannabis and they don't come down hard on drug use. I don't do hard drugs but I have heard there are all kinds of drugs in the clubs. Marijuana is kind of their thing like Jamaica.. The food is better than Pizza Burgers kabobs a lot of Greek culture.. Without the Greek prices but Albania is not Greek. You are paying ridiculous prices like Las Vegas The prices for marijuana in Thailand is a tourist trap.. You can buy huge bags of marijuana for almost nothing in Albania I think a half ounce was like $5.. It is outdoor weed.. Watching another guy's video some graffiti guy wrote the cops Love Weed.. There's a particular town where they grow it the whole town does it I want to go stay there.. There's another town on the ocean that I would stay for a long time.. What friendly marijuana countries have you found besides Thailand ????
You're right it's a mixed bag with the positives and negatives here. The heavy rain daily gets to me a bit and if it continues for the next weeks, I will head somewhere for a couple of months and return in a better season. In regards to dating, with tinder I'm mostly matching with Indonesian and Chinese girls. There's quite a lot of beautiful chinese women here it's actually overwhelming. The marijuana laws are pretty lame in general but for me at this moment it's a good thing and part of the reason I am here, to have time off and stay focused, stop overeating and overspending on food + weed, so for me it's beneficial for a little while, not permanent though for sure. Hm I have to check out Albania in that case. I spent a few years in Berlin which is one of my favorite cities, it's very tolerant toward everything. Even if you're caught by police with some party stuff they will typically just take it. The weed there is a big mix of local stuff and also for sure stuff from Albania, same with some of the party stuff which can be from Albania or Amsterdam typically. I was lucky that I overstayed 2 years in Berlin and got out with no issue, because I took a bus to prague and flew from Prague > Portugal > USA which is a safe route for schengen overstay. Most weed friendly places I've been is Berlin, USA, Amsterdam. Otherwise not much.
Ben ! Don't say the word "babi" , at all. Leave that to the Malays to do it .. there' s many other words to choose from in 4 languages , Malay Chinese in 4 more dialects , Indian , Punjabi. 5 , English.
Ha yea I won't be saying it. Maybe if I'm talking about Babi Guling but otherwise nope :D
