I can picture him being the only kid at his Primary School in Queensland [he's Victorian], that wanted to play Aussie Rules.Just him and his Sherrin, getting a hard time from everyone. The story goes something like that. So the determination to go from there, to being able to have a legitimate crack at the big time would be many people's dream. But to actually become the brilliant player and 3-time Premiership Captain he was, while still in Queensland,is testament to that determination. A brilliant player,he always led by example.Somewhat in the mould of G.Ablett snr.,tough as nails, quick,a magnificent kick, strong in the air for his size. I can picture him coming in fast, hitting the pack hard and just back-stepping his way out again, with the ball, fending off opponents, turning and running and Brisbane were on their way again!

Players like Voss, Hird, Crawford, Reiwalt and Kelly don't muck up and get reported at the wrong time, put their bodies on the line when it is the right time and have a varied skill set. Voss was a fantastic player is surely top 50 in any team supporters list. 😎👍

Different times my friend. Back then you could run past the ball at a brave opponent who had his head down and eyes on the pill and clean them up, and as long as it was within 5 metres of the ball it was a’ fair bump’. Not only could you do it, people called you tough for doing it. Byron Pickett made a reputation knocking out blokes who had their heads over the ball, and everyone used to admire how ‘tough’ he was. Ridiculous when you think about it.

As for salary cap wasn't it only a few year' prior that Buckley signed to Collingwood from Brisbane stating at his press confrence, "I want to play premiership football." Meanwhile Hird brought his club to it knees as coach. As for that one incident you refer to there are many more great moments in Voss' career. These are only what the AFL picked. After all listen to the commentary they couldnt find fault, the AFL couldn't find fault and he wasnt suspened for it, why because that style of bump was still allowed back then. 3 premierships in a row as captain, Hird 1 and Buckley none as captain, player or coach.
