I remember that game. Was at the ground with my uncle, who is an essendon supporter, and he was giving me shit the whole game. Never was I so happy in my life when carlton won that game
@J G Regrettably for soccer, Australians like men who keep their feet when bumped, score frequently, don't wear man buns and hate divers. Check out the A League crowds for reference. Bad luck, chum.
@J G never has happened and never will happen, AFL is a very competitive sport that makes fans cry their hearts out, soccer on the other hand normally gets under 10 points, AFL on the other hand is so much more better than soccer, soccer is a boring game that barely get any goals because soccer players are bad(except namar, ronaldo and messi) AFL will always be better than soccer in australia(soccer in my opinion is terrible😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂)+ when u said Afl it’s actually AFL/Australian Football League
Goes to show how good Fev was at his best, he took on two champion full backs in the same match in Fletcher and Micheal and both couldn't stop him, and they are both Hall of Fame backmans for their clubs too.
THE FEVOLUTION... I used to call him Brendan Pergola when he started because he just stood like a big stationary structure.... But when he was ON,there was none better going around.. Made Fletcher look like a muppet.. You brought us all so many wonderful memories to Carlton and Aussie Rules.. Gone too soon.. Love you always Fev..💙 CARN THE BLUES
I was at the game with my dad. My Essendon mate was also there sitting in a different area, he texts me at half time giving me shit, says “how about a beer?”. I told him “gee this one is going to hurt when you lose”. Post-game, he did not feel like a beer.
I was at that game and remember it fondly. Big Fev could be petulant at times & devastatingly brilliant. It broke my heart when he was given his marching orders & I know it hurt Sticks deeply. I love Fev, he will always be a Carlton legend in my eyes 💙😊
Oh how the game has changed. You just don’t see players kicking it to someone on a lead like that anymore. Now it’s all about kicking it into a pack and hoping someone can outmark 4 other people. Hence why there’s less scores like this nowadays
@@frasergibson5763 it's not that no one kicks to a lead anymore, it's because tactics in the game have changed. It turns out that it doesn't work well to focus wholly on scoring and giving full forwards 1 on 1 contests all day, but to also defend and prevent the opposition from scoring. That's why tactics like flooding from coaches like Terry Wallace, Alistair Clarkson and Ross Lyon were developed, all of which worked!
Yes, to this day, I have not in person witnessed a performance like that. I was there, surrounded by Essendon supporters who were cock-a-hoop in the second term. It was simply astonishing what transpired there after.
People love talking about Buddy Franklin and how dominant he has been for the majority of the past 12-13 years, and rightly so. But they forget about Brendan Fevola who absolutely destroyed the competition in a (to be brutally honest) terrible team from 2003 to 2009. It's such a shame that he couldn't get his life sorted and priorities figured out. He could have finished his career on 800+ goals and played 300 games. But we will always remember the good old days 🙂
@@spello8191 No doubt. The reason Fev didn't play 300 games was because he couldn't get his act together. He took too long to become an adult, which ended his AFL career short. But it would have been amazing to see him play for an extra 4-5 years at least, because of how great a player he was.
Fevy is a freak and whilst didnt do much for his reputation off field, a great player and one of our best full forwards ever. Great also to look back in 07 to see Cade Simpson, Eddie Betts and Marc Murphy running around then and now. Simmo has been a carlton great in my books and great to see Eddie back. Lets hope Curnow is reviewing these videos and has a big reality check as to what greats look like and starts to deliver ...
Scores: Quarter time ESS:34 CARL:12... Half time ESS:54 CARL:13 3 quarter time ESS:91 CARL:45 Full time ESS:119 CARL:124 This is how many points Carlton came back from 👇🏻
There was another dramatic comeback against Essendon at Windy Hill. I was a guest at the cricket club and almost went home at half-time. The third quarter rained fourteen Blues' goals and the silliest booking of all time. The Swan was reported fro striking. One of the greatest half forwards of all time and he wouldn't raise a finger to a monster. I think he slapped Fletcher senior. Ineffectually, unfortunately, as he got up. They tried to smack him with a wet bus ticket at the Tribunal but missed. Can't remember the year but it was the day Arthur Ashe won Wimbledon. Probably 1975.
As much as this was a great victory & perhaps the largest deficit from a Carlton perspective, this is not Carlton's greatest comeback! That recognition would have to go to the victorious 1970 GF team! This comeback was greater for these reasons: 1. The importance of the game was significantly higher. 2. Comebacks of this proportion were rare then as the game was played with a much slower tempo. 3. Starting with a 44 pt deficit & finishing with a 10 pt victory = 54 pt turnaround for the 1970 GF. Whereas the game against Essendon started with a 48 pt deficit & finished with a 3 pt victory = 51 pt turnaround!
When Carlton had a clue about good football.....segway to the shambles it plays now...shadow of its long lost glory. Cant even kick a goal these days.😢
Re: the commentator's comment at 2:15!!! What about when Carlton was down by 56 points in the 3rd quarter against Collingwood in the 1970 Grand Final??
People ask why I don’t watch footy these days, I show them this video. Regardless of the teams involved, the modern game is just shit. Shit to watch, shit scorelines, it’s glorified netball (virtually netball with the new stand rule). This had everything, big scoreline, powerhouse forwards booting great goals, great marks and great kicking. Bring this style back and you’ll see the game going back to its former glory.
thing is when Fev was in the Carlton team, 48pts down you still had hope, that's why he was the greatest

The ease in which fev kicks goals outside fiddy is amazing he'd still kick bags of goals in the afl now
13 years later and still watching this god
That's some seriously good kicking! Every goal from about 50 so straight. He could have been one of the greatest ever.
What a game...
One of my favorite Carlton memories!! Fev was in total beast mode!!

the game last friday night came very close to this this record
