I live on a boat, so my stash has to be crammed into lots of weird nooks and crannies. About 1/4 of it lives right now in bins stacked on the counter in the guest bathroom. A roll of batting lives in the guest shower! Stash is higher priority than guests right now 😂
Under my bed. But only the ones that have fabric with a specific pattern and they are wrapped in butcher paper to keep them all together. Just fabric is in tubs under my quilt frame and I only have to move them when I get to that section of my quilt.
Thank you for telling us that it’s no one’s business how much fabric we have. My husband says if bills are paid, groceries bought he doesn’t care how much fabric I bought. It saddens me when I hear women talk about sneaking in fabric so their husbands don’t know they have more fabric.
Knitters have the same problem. I married a non-handy, non-mechanically inclined, pencil pusher, and he never saw the value and NEED for yarns and knitting. We are divorced now, and I knit HAPPILY and am just now getting back into quilting. (Obviously other issues than my craft habits, but it was indeed another nail in the coffin in general - the lack of support and respect.) Divorced and free for 6 years now, and never been happier. :)
I love this video because she was so truthful and yes it is your business how much fabric you have. I love all your fabric colors. Wish I had those cabinets.
Wow I love your low volume stash! I buy mostly remnants and there are so few low volume remnants that my stash is mostly empty of them. Planning to try some dye stamping on white and cream fabrics to create some low volumes to be friends with my chosen fabrics for an upcoming quilt. Fingers crossed!
I’m proud that I have only a very small stash. Having extra fabric feels like pressure to use it up and causes me stress. I love that we are at opposite ends of the stash spectrum. 😁❤️ Do what makes you happy. Also, can I shop at your house? 😂
I'm on your page, joogle3328. My stash is very small. I only have what I am going to work on next. These days, fabric is getting very expensive, plus shipping unless you buy a certain amount. There is no quilt shop near me so I always have to buy online. This youtuber's stash kinda makes me dizzy.
Oh my gosh! I just found my happy place! I'm in love with your low volumes. I'm a relative newbie, so my low volume stash is nearly non-existant. How could anyone think that's too much fabric?
The first words that come to mind are... "my goodness, I would love your stash of fabrics" lovely display cabinets too! Gives us great comfort... for some reason and makes our minds active, which is a great thing. You always present great, unique videos. I am already awaiting your next.
I love the glass cabinets! I will be looking for glass doors to put on my shelf. Maybe I can find the right size at a second hand store. New goal! Thank you for the kind words about ours stashes. Happy sewing!
Your stash is GREAT! I love your cabinets. I used to store my fabric in bins and kind of on shelves but it was a mess & it stressed me out. I took 2 weeks and pulled all fabric out, sorted by color, assigned a SKU (blu1, blu2) and wrote it in the selvedge. My husband added shelves to the guest closet behind bi-fold. Pieces greater than 1.25yds goes on a top shelf, 1/8 up to 1.25yd on the middle shelf, themes on the lower shelf. As I finish a project, I log it on my spreadsheet, which fabric I used for which project. It really helps if I remember a fabric I want to use but don't remember if I have any. Anything smaller than 1/8yd but too big to cut into a scrap square or rectangle, goes in a bin labeled "chunky scraps." As I finish a project and have small pieces they are cut into squares & rectangles up to 3.5". I have found that, other than 2.5" for bindings, I don't use strips so I've gradually used them up & don't cut more. I take "inventory" every year or so, like you, so I can play with my fabric and re-sort. I can see how much fabric I used each year & it's a good feeling. Everyone needs to find a system that works for them but for me, I need to be organized or I just can't sew. ;)
Wow great stash ! I love how you store your fabric ! I wish I had that kind of room to do this. I’m glad you don’t listen to people that make negative comments about your stash. Everyone should do what they want & what ever makes your heart happy, do it ! Thanks for all your wonderful tutorials, I have learned a lot from you !!😊
I love the way you touch your fabrics. My sewing room is packed up for a couple of months while I wait for my new sewing room to be built. I bring a bin out every so often to touch the fabric and fold and refold.
Yes! Putting fabric Friends - with Friends , is also what I do...making sure they are clean, neat, happy, and have good neighbors to hang out with... sometimes, I will bring home a piece of fabric...and go through the fabric neighborhood, and see where it fits in best! Lol! Playing with and folding my stash, is actually more fun than sewing!
Brilliant tutorial on several levels with education of fabric colors, fabric access, happy fabric friends, & no guilt-I love how you think and explain quilting!
Love that you embrace your fabric collection and set limits to what you can have! I totally agree with your philosophy ❤️❤️. I don’t have the space that you do, but i will be using some of your tips to reorganize my fabrics. Thanks!
Love ! Love ! Love ! Your fabric stash. I used to have all mine looking that way but then we moved. It is ALL still packed in boxes. Im gonna save this video so that I can go back and see your stash which by the way is BEAUTIFUL !!!! Don't ever apologize for your stash !! It is TOTALLY no ones business but yours !!!! Hope you have a great year !!!!!! ✌🏻♥️
I too have been told I may have too much fabric….I live all my fabric….my fabrics get really messed up when I’m pulling for a quilt…I so appreciate you showing us that one it’s ok to have lots of fabric and two I never thought to reorganize once a year…I am definitely going to make my cubbies pretty again and it will definitely help me when I need to see what I have…you’re amazing and every time you release a video, I can’t wait to see what tips and techniques you have to share! Thank you, thank you, for being YOU!!!!🥰
That is a GORGEOUS stash ma'am. I wish you were my quilter friend. Clutter makes me nervous so I'm very careful with what I buy and bring into the house. I have a respectable stash but it is stored beautifully and neatly. I have recently been making precuts with left overs at the end of every project. I use more stash that way so I can buy new fabric. Win win.
Wow 🤩, I love it! I have a very extensive fabric stash also, those cabinets are fantastic! I no longer feel like I’ve got to much! Thanks for this video.
I do the comic cardboard, but do not use pins or clips, they are vertically “book stored” and keep intact when I am auditioning and easy to replace back on the shelf. Then, … since I was a science major all my batiks are ROY-G-BIV placed on my shelving. I Then have several sections, a Kaffe section and my florals. This is followed by the polka dot, then the stripes. Grunge, the plain background unique solids get a section. Then the oddballs that you talked about, animals, geometric prints, coffee, food, juvenile. I have a large stash so my up coming projects, next to do…. are stored on their own shelf with a ribbon tie and the pattern, a grab and go!!! I need to see my stuff so I can adjust my fabric choices should I need to. I am very fussy on my fabric selection, so I normally purchase 2-3 yards of each. The whites and blacks are in a Elfa type bin next to the workbench so I can easily audition. My sewing room was made for me when I purchased my home 10 years ago. I totally outgrew it 8 years ago. My system works for me, and when people visit my home the sewing room is usually an eye popper. My friends are not quilters, they look at me with disbelief…..they say it is pretty, but they are gobsmacked.😳
Likewise, I'm no longer feeling guilty. Find myself a far too frequently spontaneous shopper, and I'm not a quilter. Saw a cute sign: "You know you're a 'fabraholic' when you go to the store to 'pet' the fabrics." Me! Do love your storage units and how you've organized. Thank you for sharing. Look forward to seeing some of your beautiful creations.
Quilting help we love all the colours! Love that quote. And your stash is beautiful and to envy for! Thank you for sharing. I’ll be sharing this video to my newsletter this week!
I haven't started quilting yet, but I'm planning to start trying I was also thinking of using discount blankets as quilt backs. I would love to see more about how to do this.
Love this❤ thanks for sharing your stash storage tips. I have friends who only buy per project…..I can’t do that…..I need a stash to choose from! When friends have come over with their husbands I can see the wheels turning like it’s so much but I don’t care……makes me happy and I love playing and choosing fabrics for specific projects ❤
Wow. Such a beautiful stash!. So well organized! So useful this way. I bet you could make a 1,000 quilts without going out to buy more fabric. I love in Canada, so buying any kinda yardage is just impossible on a fixed income. I buy mostly 100% cotton men's shirts for the fabric. Now I need a good source for thread and batting and backing. I do look at blankets n sheets at thrift stores. And I look at wool coats for harvesting that. I might be a throwback pioneer.
I also love to harvest wool and use quality cotton shirts! (Especially Men's REALLY large ones!) I've even dyed my own harvested wool. I love working in wool. Sounds like you are doing brilliant things!
I LOVE HOW MUCH FABRIC YOU HAVE!!!!! In fact, I am jealous as I don't have as much room:) In the world of cycling (my other hobby), the number of bikes you need is referred to as N + 1, which is the number you have, plus 1, LOL!!! So I think about my stash in a same way. Thank you for your videos, I enjoy them so much and rewatch them often.
This is a great video. A good reminder that we need to see what we have. I used to one of those people who stored in the bottom of the pantry, under the bed or where-ever. It's so good to have changed my ways a few years ago to see everything.
I love those cabinets! I use two of my guest bedrooms for sewing. Plus I use a couple more for guest or laying a quilt top on for auditioning borders, etc. I need to organize. Your sewing room is so nice. Your stash is fantastic.
I store yardage the same behind closed doors. I use an acrylic 8" wide long ruler and wrap it around it much like you would wrap a bolt and then pull out the ruler and fold it in half and align in in stacks by color on the shelf. This makes every piece precisely the same size and the only time I refold them is if I use part of it.
I have fabric stashed everywhere from old stereo cabinet to vintage suitcase; somehow I know where most are. I would love to have cabinets like yours so beautiful
Love how you explained your logic for determining how you want to fold your fabrics. Most of mine are in “kits”, but I do have random yardage that I need to get out where I can actually SEE it… which is part of your presentation here. Thank you for sharing!! (Now I need to find some similar kind of shelving, maybe!)
When people find out I quilt, mystery bags show up on my porch. )))) I sort them into color bins, Mostly red, mostly blue, mostly whatever. Any size and shape, color, texture... one general color per bin.Quilts come from total random or single color ways, or grouped colors that "go together". Backs on the shelf. Fluff in bags in closets. ))))))
What a gorgeous view you have! I love how you store your fabrics. Mine are color sorted (sort of) in drawers so I don’t get the visual stimulation you have.
I have 4 upright 30X72 cabinets. I use my 6X24 ruler to wrap my fabrics and then fold in half like you do. So, anything over 18 inches and under 4 yards get folded and stored that way. Anything over 4 yards gets folded 12X22 the folded in half. There is a drawer in the middle of the cabinets and my FT's and half yard pieces get folded and stored in there. I have 2 scrap bins. That's it. My local quilt shop has a scrap box for pieces to be cut up for dog beds for rescue dogs, any batting or fabric scraps 2 inches and less get donated to the box. Larger pieces that I don't want any more, get donated to the scrap bin for other quilters to buy for $5 a bag. I don't cut my scraps into sizes, not a big fan of scrappy quilts. I make at least one pillowcase per quilt, depending on size to store it in. So, I use up alot of fabric that way. I chose the closed cabinets because I have 2 windows in my sewing room and I noticed that some of them started to fade on the fold line when I used bookcases. They are of course, organized by color and mine are all labeled with the amount and where and when I bought then, whenever possible. I got tired of pulling out a piece only to fine it was not enough.
wow one day I will have cabinets filled with fabric lol I have a wish list on all my favorite stores filled with all the fabric that I want and I have finely started to get some of it but I really need to get my cabinets with the glass doors and I love pre-cuts so of course I will have a cabinet for those
I’m not an avid quilter so I don’t have a stash like this. I only decide on a project…buy the material for it then complete that project before moving forward. I love the French blues and pinks but they’re hard to find. Storing in china cabinets is a great idea!
I have 7 metal shelves like you do, loaded with fabric. Mine are also sorted. I actually use cardboard pieces and fold my fabric similar to what you find in the stores. Some "boards" are @6" wide and some @3" . If I have more than a couple of yards, I actually have a cardboard piece that is the same size as actual bolt cardboard. It's amazing how well it works. And I can see all my fabrics basically at a glance.
I ❤ LOVE❤ YOUR STASH, THE WAY YOU ARANGED IT AND THOSE CABINETS ARE TO DIE FOR.....Just 3 weeks into watching your channel. Will be a long time sub. I have a problem reading patterns and then turning them into works of art, what can I do to help the process?
I too have a hard time reading patterns. I do better with pictures. As your skills improve you will be able to figure out patterns better (just from experience). I wish I had a better answer for you!
I keep an empty bolt board by my fabric shelves. For anything over half a yard, I wrap it around that...flip...flip...flip...pull out the board, and fold in half. And I'm lucky - that size just happens to fit well on my shelves 😄 I'm curious how you store smaller bits; not scraps exactly, but hardly large enough to fold prettily.
I have probably the same amount as you have and still I always need some color to match something. I definitely have problems with browns and oranges! I think because I started out using those colors for fall and it didn’t sell well so it turned me off. I probably have one or 2 browns and maybe 6-8 oranges. I also don’t see great options of these colors in the stores.
Where is the funniest place you have stored fabric? 😇
I live on a boat, so my stash has to be crammed into lots of weird nooks and crannies. About 1/4 of it lives right now in bins stacked on the counter in the guest bathroom. A roll of batting lives in the guest shower! Stash is higher priority than guests right now 😂
Living on a boat means you get to make up ALL of your own rules with not guilt at all!! (I love water!)
in my bf's underwear drawer. Also, a file box I was supposed to use to get my tax/financial stuff organized.
My underground Wine Cellar!
Under my bed. But only the ones that have fabric with a specific pattern and they are wrapped in butcher paper to keep them all together. Just fabric is in tubs under my quilt frame and I only have to move them when I get to that section of my quilt.

Umm, i know its a sin to have envy but damn it, I have stash envy. Love it.👍
Adorable comment! So funny.
Your fabric storage shelves are beautiful enough to have on display in a room where you entertain company. Just lovely and practical too ! 👍❤️
I do love beautiful!
Thank you for a wonderfully inspiring walk through your fabric and how you store it. Now I have a better idea of what I need to do.
You can do it!
Beautiful eye candy! I like your cabinets and how you have your fabrics set up in them. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much!
Thank goodness us quilters are deaf to those people who try to tell us we have too much fabric because there is no such thing as too much 😂😘❤️
I love fabric!
I love all the colors of your materials, so very organized and beautiful!
I no longer feel guilty about my stash! Wow! What a fabric trip this was. Enjoyed immensely! Thanks. Pat Berne
Wonderful! No guilt needed!
I did hear of people storing fabric in their oven and bathtub. And other places. I love having mine in one place! Yours is awesome. ❤
Thanks for visiting!
I'm 63 from Ireland and I'd love to start quilting, and appreciate any starter tips. I could roll around in all that fabric. It's a happy place
Contact your local quilt or fabric store. Chances are that they will know where to direct you.
I love this video because she was so truthful and yes it is your business how much fabric you have. I love all your fabric colors. Wish I had those cabinets.

Wow I love your low volume stash! I buy mostly remnants and there are so few low volume remnants that my stash is mostly empty of them. Oh wow! That sounds fun.
I’m proud that I have only a very small stash. Having extra fabric feels like pressure to use it up and causes me stress. I love that we are at opposite ends of the stash spectrum. 😁❤️ Do what makes you happy. Also, can I shop at your house? 😂
I have a cousin who can hardly visit my house because my stash makes her "feel" stressed. I adore her. it is fun that we are all so different.
You are a hoot. So happy I found you.
Thanks for joining in the fun.
Oh my gosh! I just found my happy place! I'm in love with your low volumes. I'm a relative newbie, so my low volume stash is nearly non-existant. How could anyone think that's too much fabric?
Yay! Thank you!
Love your passion and your vast collection 😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
I love novelty fabric too! Thanks for the ideas.
You are so welcome!

Your cabinets are so perfect for fabric display. What wonderful fabric. I love seeing others choices of what they buy.
I totally agree!

Beautiful storeage and tips love your ideas 💕

I love how you store your fabric! Beautiful!
Thank you! Cheers!
Wonderful balance of colors! Nice collection/palette to work with!
Thanks for watching and commenting.
loved your stash too
I love your fabric. I’m building mine.
whoa.... I'm astonished at your gorgeous stash. And they look so pretty all organized and neat.
I LOVE HOW MUCH FABRIC YOU HAVE!!!!! In fact, I am jealous as I don't have as much room:)

This is a great video. A good reminder that we need to see what we have. I used to one of those people who stored in the bottom of the pantry, under the bed or where-ever. It's so good to have changed my ways a few years ago to see everything.
Go Andrea!!
Thank you for that great tip! I am doing this tomorrow 😊
Absolutely beautiful! Sure wish I could find some cabinets like yours.
Thanks so much!
I love those cabinets! I use two of my guest bedrooms for sewing. Plus I use a couple more for guest or laying a quilt top on for auditioning borders, etc. I need to organize. Your sewing room is so nice. Your stash is fantastic.
Such beautiful stacks! I don't have the patience to reorganize, but I really like your idea of touching and and reorganizing your fabric every year.
Thanks.
I love your stash! Mine is similar and I have it stored in 11” cube shelves, so mine is folded to 10.5”. I showed your video to my daughter and son. 🙂
Your stash system sounds brilliant.
Thanks for sharing.
I have fabric stashed everywhere from old stereo cabinet to vintage suitcase; somehow I know where most are. I would love to have cabinets like yours so beautiful
Thank you for sharing.
Great video 🫶 your containers of thrifted fabrics 🙂
Love how you explained your logic for determining how you want to fold your fabrics. Most of mine are in “kits”, but I do have random yardage that I need to get out where I can actually SEE it… which is part of your presentation here. Thank you for sharing!! (Now I need to find some similar kind of shelving, maybe!)
You are so welcome!
Your shelves look so beautiful. The folding would drive me crazy though. This is why you're a quilter and I'm just a voyeur of quilters -- patience.
I love your philosophy. We could be best friends! My favorite thing you said is stash how you want.
Thanks!
Fluff in bags in closets. ))))))
Delightful!
What a gorgeous view you have! I love how you store your fabrics. Mine are color sorted (sort of) in drawers so I don’t get the visual stimulation you have.
Thank you!
Thank you for sharing the system at your house. It was fun to read!
Thank you for sharing. I am a beginner so this was very helpful. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I'm so glad!
wow one day I will have cabinets filled with fabric lol I have a wish list on all my favorite stores filled with all the fabric that I want and I have finely started to get some of it but I really need to get my cabinets with the glass doors and I love pre-cuts so of course I will have a cabinet for those
Go for it!
I’m not an avid quilter so I don’t have a stash like this. I only decide on a project…buy the material for it then complete that project before moving forward. I love the French blues and pinks but they’re hard to find. Storing in china cabinets is a great idea!
Thank you so much for your comment.
Love love love your stash! 😊
Thanks so much!
Sounds great!
@@merrymabelmarket Thank you for sharing. I'm trying but it is hard and very so going...See you soon.
I really needed this! Thank you.
You're so welcome!
ha ha...glad to see you have way more than me! that makes me happy indeed...
You and me both!
Awesome! Can I come shopping :) I could swim in your oranges for hours.
Swimming in oranges sounds like a brilliant activity!
gotta find that friend pile, so they can be happy. lol
Friends and family are the best.
Gorgeous stash!! I need more neutrals im just learning and learning you need neutrals to make it work beautifully!
You can do it! I do adore great neutrals. (I have a friend who tells me that for her - orange is a neutral.) tee hee...
Here is my scrap video. I hope you enjoy watching...

In the video I show storage of even crumbs.
New here! I’d love to see how you store your scraps. Great video.
Your wish is my command. Here is the video on scraps:

I have probably the same amount as you have and still I always need some color to match something. I definitely have problems with browns and oranges! I think because I started out using those colors for fall and it didn’t sell well so it turned me off. I probably have one or 2 browns and maybe 6-8 oranges. I also don’t see great options of these colors in the stores.
