I have a 2007 328i with over 378,000 km. Regular scheduled maintenance has kept her running. I replaced the battery twice, valve cover gasket once, brake calipers, water pump, upper and lower water hoses, the rear window actuator and both headlights.I purchased the vehicle (former BMW courtesy car) used in 2008, when it had 17702 km. I love driving this car.
Small time dealerships will force sell you an aftermarket warranty that’s through their company, and the only person that’s gonna get screwed over is you, plus all aftermarket warranty is a scam, they will deny every single claim especially on a bmw, the best scenario is to save up your money, and fix the vehicle when it’s disabled.
I had 2 cars with Carmax extended warranty here in the U. S. and it more than paid for itself on both cars. No hassles. Covered a lot of high $ repairs. Extended Warranties are typically negotiable as well. I did not finance my warranties either.
Good information thanks! Next time a battery is needed thinking about just doing it yourself. I picked up an AGM battery 95 amp hours from Walmart for $150 and installed myself in about 15 minutes. There's some pretty good RUclips videos on how to do it and it's pretty easy. I also registered the battery using a pro tool app. That's also about $75 + more if you want diagnostic so 100+ total. But it can do a bunch more stuff which is pretty cool. Anyway just throwing another option out there thanks again!
I have a 2005 E46 M3. And they're actually quite easy to work on with a hundreds and hundreds of do-it-yourself PDF and articles and posts online. I can't believe BMW made this Uber complicated deal when you change the battery on their newer cars. I would have a fit over them. It's nothing to change a battery on my car I don't lose anything except I think for the time on the clock. Just like any other car.
I have a 2003 e46 m3 and just had the battery changed with a new one. It was free installation, and lost nothing but the time on the clock. BMW now makes things needlessly difficult, and I would never buy ANY BMW made after about 2007/8, or the iDrive generation. Their black plastic under the hood barely holds up with normally aspirated engines. Now that they're using turbos for everything, that same plastic quickly becomes brittle and falls apart, making BMW's one of the most unreliable breakdown mobiles on the road.
I had warranty and Emergency cover, guys from BMW just came in 2 hours and change the EGR valve for free (both parts and work), includes free recovery in the UK and continental Europe guaranteeing that car will be well-taken care off. Btw, the warranty is the insurance against failure, so it is almost the same telling people don't buy car insurance as you may not get in the crash. There are multiple things that may go wrong with the gearbox and engile and believe me you don't want to see the bills instead just paying annual warranty, btw I just prolonged it.
Car insurance follows the same principle, on average you will pay them far more than they ever pay out to you. The difference is you need the car insurance by law, warranty not so much. The security of the warranty is worth the price for some, but not everyone.
Also to make your engine last - change the oil and filter every 6000 miles after 50k - brill video by the way - he is right what he is saying - on older cars it's better to save money and take it too a mechanic not a deal mechanic - save money do not waste it.
Great information.thanks for your help.i bought a 16 740i.I won't be driving the car that much maybe 4 thousand a year.so I won't be getting it.thanks. The warranty at BMW is 4000.i figure keep that in the bank get some
Hi I found your video seems interesting. I did bought a BMW X1 2015 and the car still covered for factory warranty not until 2019 or 50,000 miles. As of now my car has less than 20taw miles do you think it is worth it to buy an extended warranty for 125miles or 6yrs. Also I don't drive my car that much basically at least less than 200miles a week I used my car. Just need an opinion Thanks
The warranty will almost always cost more than the repairs. It wasn't for me, but some people like the peace of mind that comes with the warranty. Ask the dealer how much they charge for the extended warranty and you can decide if its worth it for you.
You just have to call the company providing the warranty and tell them you want to cancel your policy. They should refund you for whatever is left of your term, but read the fine print or ask them about cancellation policy before you do it.
JC SLDN ...from the dealership or warranty co. Are suppose to reimburse you for the remainder or the warranty... remember they are selling you a contract not a warranty. Stay away from them and the scammers who are selling them via ph calls. Besides new cars have their own warranty and you actually pay for warranty that actually comes with the car. You call a warranty co if you want after the dealer warranty .
You just bought a shitty warranty for a car that didn't need it. I bought a warranty not too long ago and it covers me for pretty much everything including "wear n tear" items. I've already had them repair these airbag suspension parts that cost $600 a piece and had all 4 replace. I've made my money back.
I think that there is some more benefit to having these warranties than described in this video. If you are relying solely on saving money to make the repairs, you have nothing else to fall back on. If however you have a warranty, then you may have legal remedies to sue if certain repairs are not made or disputed.
Yeah, Car Stuff If you are able to put your case through Lemon Laws, you will be reimbursed legal fees if you win your case. Also, if you threaten to sue, most of these companies will come to some agreement with you concerning your repairs rather than let things escalate to litigation. PS I went to law school.
Ueeeaaah and your without your vehicle, lemon laws aren’t everywhere and you still incite the costs of lost wages and the trouble dealing with it all. Not a simple win win in the scenario.
Thanks, but you're probably over-thinking it. The warranty is simply an insurance policy. Insurers calculate premiums based upon the likelihood of something happening to the average policyholder. Some policyholders receive huge payouts for small premiums, others pay more every year but never make a claim. A vehicle warranty is not an investment, it's a considered expense offset against the disaster of, say, a complete DSG gearbox failure. Somebody who has experienced such a situation, and been without warranty, would have a totally different opinion :)
True, a big failure would be more expensive, but like I said in the video, the vast majority of people won't experience those kind of problems, but some people like buying the warranty for the peace of mind. I personally think it isn't worth the money. I'm actually very close to the mileage where that warranty would have ended and I've had almost no unscheduled costs. I'll be making a video about it soon as an update, but this time the gamble paid off :)
I've made the same mistakes. I bought a 2015 Ford focus for my daughter 10 months ago with extended warranty. I went back to the dealer the other day, they're giving me the run around. Besides extended warranty they added theft protection I didn't ask for. I told them I want to cancel both but they told me I can't cancel theft protection because of the GPS in the car that I had to pay for it in case the car is stolen. What do you think about that? They're not giving me the refund personally, they will send it to my credit union, I refinanced the car because the finance charge was very high.
People offering the warranty is running a business? Wow. So are the people selling car insurance. It's a bet. They are betting that your car wont break, you are betting that it will. Who ever loses the bet pays. One repair under warranty might be 3 times the total cost of your additional warranty payment. Try replacing a Merc steering column. If you cant afford it dont buy it but to say warranties are bad because you MIGHT pay more for it than you may get back, well by that logics, dont buy car insurance either.
You're right, it is a bet. It's a bet where the odds are heavily stacked in the insurance company's favor. My warranty was almost $6k and I recently passed the mileage where it would have expired. In that time I've had no problems that would have been covered by it. Unless you're buying a really high mileage car or one with known serious issues, I say it's not worth it.
Dude, That’s stupid. Here are the rules: 1. Never buy a warranty at a dealer. EVER 2. ALWAYS buy your warranty 3rd party. 3 Pay for your warranty with a credit card on a monthly basis, build your credit
Can you recommend any third-party warranties that a buyer can purchase outside of the dealership? I know a lot of people have written reviews on having those bumper to bumper extended platinum third-party warranties that try to get out of paying for anything.
The odds are in your favor as long as you don't buy one that is completely miled out. As of today I've put 75,000 km on the car (115k total) and had a total of $900 in repairs. I'd say that's pretty reasonable.
@@markedwards7721 It's mostly highway miles. Also that's just unscheduled repairs, doesn't include oil changes, brake pads etc. That stuff all costs more than a regular car too.

Useless comment. If you paid attention you would see that the cost of the warranty is irrelevant.
