  • Everything Hermès makes you do just to be able to get a chance at purchasing one of their bags is the exact opposite of what luxury is and should be like. Let me prove this to you.
Do you think Hermès can still argue that they are offering a great luxury experience to their customers? I’m curious to hear your thoughts on this subject.

Remember that you are the customer. The seller is supposed to jump through hoops to get your money, not the other way around. This is not a luxury experience. It's an anti-luxury experience. Take your money elsewhere.

I don't stand in line outside a store to shop, and I have zero interest in sweet talking salesgirls into allowing me the privilege of spending my money. Can I afford a Birken? Yes. Would I lower myself and play this manipulative game to get one? No.

agreed. remember the first and right now only time i got to do a private shopping trip. now thats luxury! everything you wanted pulled based on your measurements for you try on in a private room. the lady could tell i'm really awkward with small talk and just spoke when needed and i'm so grateful for that. She offered drinks and was really friendly but not in please buy everything kind of way. I ended up only getting a dress and blouse but now i can't go back to regular shopping lol. now I just order online and have picked up what i dont want to be sent back. waiting in line especially if its outside to spend thousands on something thats not even the thing you wanted just sounds like scam

Seeing there are SO many Hermes (literally in all colours) in Japan preloved shops and indeed everywhere worldwide, why would anyone still get themselves humiliated, degraded to please a sales person in Hermes by buying loads of unwanted stuff to get the same bag? I have Hermes bags, to me, they are just bags I like, but no different to other bags I have. I just buy pretty much unworn conditions from preloved. However, I won’t buy anymore, there are so many good leather brands that are fractions of the price, completely handmade with finest leather. The sales associates from those shops actually respect and care about me as a customer. Apart from that, Hermes BKC are not rare anymore, so many people want to get rid of theirs, and no takers. So not an investment if you buy new one now.

It's ridiculous the hoops and hurdles they make people go through, from buying unnecessary dishes, scarves, pillows, throws, and fine jewelry; just so an SA deems you worthy enough to offer selling you a bag? I'm a firm believer that if you have the money to afford something at a store you should not have a hard time during a purchase. Stuff like this is the reason why I'd prefer to obtain the item preloved, and if its too expensive via that route, there's nothing wrong with donning an inspired dupe (not to be confused with a superfake). Also, right about now Strathberry, Aspinal of London, Demellier, and Delveaux are looking very good from where I'm standing 😊

I prefer to buy Chanel or other luxury brand bags even if they are overpriced. Playing hard to get does not work with me Hermes. The fact that there are people who accept this psychological manipulation because they think that a bag will make them more important, makes me sad.

I think that we can talk all we want, and yes, the Hermes "game" is not fair, but we have to admit it's genius. I personally have made a wishlist myself, however, I only buy pieces that I like when I feel like it and if the offer of the bag will come, it will be amazing. It is important to set low expectations, especially if you made that wishlist in a boutique that is not super central like NYC or London, so they receive low stock. If you don't want to play the "game" just don't buy from them, simple as that, no one is forcing you to go and buy anything, it's the brand's decision on how they want to sell their items and so far, it's working amazingly well for them.
Another option is you can save the money of the pre-spend and buy the bag you want in the color and size that you want on the pre-loved market.

You guys don't understand that the game and exclusivity is what makes Hermes so successful. Barely any advertisement, no endless list of brand ambassadors like other brands, only a few selection of bags. People basically do free advertisement for the brand by treating the event of successfully getting a bag after toiling for so long as a celebration.
I personally wouldn't put myself through it but it has worked so well for so long and it's not going to stop. With brands like Chanel, Dior losing their exclusivity and luster via social media, excessive branding and loss of quality, Hermes is only going to get bigger as people convince themselves that owning a Birkin/Kelly makes them superior to those carrying Chanels. You don't seem to understand marketing at all.

I do believe the problem with hermes now, is that everyone and a pair of boots, wants a bag, but they don't love hermes, and this brand it was always being based on love for the product, if you go to hermes whitout loving it just for the bag they will know and of course, you will get pushed around, and of course the bag is not avialable for everyone, being that an quota bag is a very meticullus handcrafted bag that takes hours to made. Being a hermes costumer I can walk into to my boutique and be very well serviced. Maybe the reflection should be about the consumerism sociaty that just want a quota bag and nothing else from the brand, because that's the problem

In a French retail store the customer is not king. When you enter you are a guest. Do not handle the merchandise, greet the salesperson FIRST, learn to ask in French politely. Even is Monoprix learn to say Bonjour before any requests and then apologize for interrupting. There are rules. You don’t have to follow them but you’ll have to put up with the consequences. And dress properly, not in gym clothes when you go clothes shopping. Athletic clothes are for actual athletic activities.
