I would like to see more of the freeze drying and end result and less of the unwrapping. Would really like to see settings and time in freeze dryer and end result of product. Thanks.
Thank you for the feedback. If you watch the ending credits I give some of the details you mentioned but I’m always looking to improve the content. I’ll try to include the end result and machine settings in future episodes. Thanks!
@@freezedriedbusiness when I do candy mode, I've set it to that temp and run it for 12 hours with no results :( i didn't cut them in half though. so confused!
Hi David. I’m in Northern California. I’m wondering if you have a program like a “ride a long” type program where someone who is learning about this business can shadow you for a weekend- of course paying you for this program? Have you thought about these workshops? I’d be happy to be able to sign up for this service.
PLEASE always include the instructions or tips for those of us who bought our FD several months ago, before the dang new "candy mode" came out! Don't assume everyone has the new candy mode. Thank you! Thumbs up again!
@SassyHerbGardener Yes! My machine is from 2016, one year too old to update the software with candy mode! Everything I find refers to "candy mode" and is so unhelpful to me! It's sad. However, if you have version 3.6.11, or above, you can update your software! :)
This was one of my first videos for candy and unfortunately I didn’t think to show the end result, just the how to. The thumbnail picture for the video does show what they look like freeze dried though
I have the Harvest Right Medium size freeze dryer but i have the v16 and don't want to upstrafe cuz i hrard people have problems..so i don't have the candy mode setting..any idea what is the setting for the jolly ranchers if you dont have the candy mode on the machine?
135 degrees for 2-3 hours. If you have the older software you can bypass to just kick in the final dry process which is essentially candy mode. Select "start", once it cools the chamber for 15 minutes select "continue", you should then see it as freezing. Press "cancel" and it will prompt you with the defrost options and in the middle is "add final dry", select that and then close the drain value. This will start the "candy mode" process on the old software.
idk what's going on, but I can't not get these jolly ranchers to pop I am in candy mode just did skittles but these stubborn ranchers idk what to do any advice?
We just did our first batch of jolly rancher’s and they had very little expansion. This only our third time we have used our dryer and so far nothing has really puffed up. Could it be to low of heat?
It's probably not hot enough. If you have the software version 5.0 or higher, there is 'Candy Mode'. Before selecting START, push the CUSTOMIZE option and adjust the heat to 135. Then SAVE and START. Let me know how it goes!
We did a second run on the candy mode but didn’t cut them in half. They did a lot better this time but not quite as good as yours. Next time we will cut them and see what happens. Thanks a lot and keep up the good stuff!
@@dustyschuhmacher4169 when it gives the warm tray option play around with warming times, the longer you warm the trays, the greater the expansion. If you have a HR small, you’ll,have to cut the jolly ranchers in thirds or they will expand too much and make a huge mess.
FD Jolly Ranchers tend to harden-up and shrink within a 1-2 months in the buckets I use, especially if they are not kept in a cooler area. Since they only take a few hours to do, I wouldn't worry about getting too far ahead in your FD schedule. I typically run a few cycles in a day then package the next day or two for any event the following week or delivery to a wholesale customer. Hope that helps!
Thank you for showing us. Have you done life saver gummies? what is the temperature and time for life saver gummies? I haven't have luck with it and I haven't found any good info on YT. Thanks in advance
If you have the latest software 5.0 or 5.1, Candy Mode is an option. Go to customize before you start the machine and adjust the temp to 135. Then press start and run them for two hours, they should pop within that time frame. On a large FD, usually the top and bottom trays vary on popping so 2-4 trays will perform the best.
I have ran my jolly ranchers at 140 for 3 hrs in large fd and they still have hardly puffed and when I bite them they still seem to have a hard texture
Thanks David for the video. Looks like I am going shopping for Jolly Ranchers tomorrow. I have had limited success with them in the past but now with the Candy update with Harvest Right they all pop. Happy trails!
what did you set the dryer on after putting the trays in? how long did you run it for? did you freeze them first or did you use the prefreeze? all you showed was you cutting the candy and put it on a tray...
Thank you for watching, this was one of my first videos so I didn't fully understand what I was missing in sharing which I learned was the settings. I do Jolly Ranchers at 135 degrees for 2 hours. No pre-freeze necessary.
Yes! On the 5.0 software versions it does require a 15 minute pre-freeze for some reason but then you select "skip" for warming the trays and the machine will start warming up and drying.
I have tried jolly ranchers twice and i can’t get them right. I just didn’t 130 for 2 hours nope i added another hour nope then added 2 more hours and it’s not looking good. First time i tried 150 for 2 hours and it didn’t form at all. I did warm the trays for 5 min before i started the drying process
I don't warm the trays. 135 degrees for 2 hours. Sometimes the top and bottom trays don't pop as much but that is the setting that works for me. Part of the freeze-drying candy process is trial and error and seeing what will work.
$8-$10 per bag depending on the candy and time it takes to cut them. You won't find a public case, most settlements are confidential. You can search on some of the Facebook forums for cease and desist letters and fines for infringing on the trademark, lots of people have received them. It's not something to mess with, just come up with a different name for your products and only list the brand name in your ingredients.
I absolutely love all of your content! As a new freeze dried business owner all of your videos are extremely helpful! Could you tell me if you ever warm your trays when doing candy?
Awesome! Thank you for watching. No I do not warm the trays. I've tested both warming and not and there's not a difference. It's either going to warm-up slowly to the temp you set in settings or you select "skip" and it immediately starts the pump.

Hey I just ran my jolly ranchers for the time you said and nothing happened maybe 2 or 3 actually puffed up I don't know what I'm doing wrong
A method I saw was to use pruning shers, I did and it worked very well

Do you heat the trays at first in the freeze dryer
No heating for Jolly Ranchers
Do you warm the trays?
No, not necessary
Will it do the same thing if you dehydrate it
No
Thank you so much for this information!! How long do you preheat them for??

140 degrees is my temp but they are sometimes inconsistent it’s just part of the game
Thanks for your videos. So, do you do a tray warm for jolly ranchers? If so, how many minutes?
I don't warm trays for any candies except for hard-shell candy like Lemonheads
I set my freeze dryer for an additional 2 hours dry time and it only ran for 2. It did not continue the additional 2???
The default is two hours and then you should see an option to increase once it starts drying.

Somewhat airy but still stick to teeth

they are so fragile. how do you secure them during the packaging and shipping?
Very gently, I don’t do them as often anymore because of how fragile they are
How'd you cut the Jolly Ranchers in half? I can't even bite it.
I used a knife but you can also use pipe cutters
Try quail egg scissors 😊 The candy fits it perfectly!

What do they look like after being frozen?
You mean after being freeze-dried? The thumbnail for the video gives you an idea of what the end result would look like. I need to refresh this video.
Why do mine come out sticky?
Sticky on the outside is okay, it will dry out
Are you turning off the freeze time completely?
Yes! On the 5.0 software versions it does require a 15 minute pre-freeze for some reason but then you select "skip" for warming the trays and the machine will start warming up and drying.

135 degrees for 2 hours, cut into halves
Do you sell internationally?
I don’t currently but would like to as soon as I get orders
What do you charge for a bag of candy.
What case has occured where jolly ranchers has sued for using the name jolly ranchers?
