This series is so fun. As someone who doesn’t watch every game, it’s cool to hear about players from around the league who may get overlooked or overhyped.
Dexter Lawrence is the greatest athlete in the history of this planet he's not just the goat of football but of every sport, event, and anything vaguely competitive, if there's an award he should win it, i mean emmys nobel peace prizes, nba mvp, everything, he's not just getting my probowl vote I'm writing his name on the presidential ballot next week
I like that our guys are getting respect now. I would say I think Dante Fowler and Andrew Wylie are way outperforming my expectations. I’ve been a little disappointed with Chinn but he hasn’t necessarily been bad, I just had higher expectations for him.
Forrest dealt with some injuries early on and he didn't impress in the preseason which led to other guys passing him up, and he's shown himself to be more Strong Safety than deep Free Safety rn, so he's mainly backing up Chinn. Trust me tho, a lot of us have been clamoring to see him play more.
I think the reason Washington's IDL has been struggling is the adjustment from going from a 2 gap to 1 gap system. Both Allen and Payne had their early struggles but have seemed to settle in as the weeks have gone. Allen especially struggled the first 3 weeks, but he started playing better from week 4 onward until he tore his pec vs Baltimore, which is unfortunate cuz he was improving, but yeah he's out for the year now, and he won't get traded at the deadline. Newton is bouncing back from his injury, he missed the whole offseason due to it, so it's expected for him to come along slowly.
@@ThatFranchiseGuyyeah that’s a very large part of playing DL, especially on the interior. If it’s not base over/under front style teams (especially for the ones that like to line their guys head up or “inside eye” of a lineman)
Makes sense other than I would expect 1 gap to fit them better and especially Allen so I'd expect almost immediate better fit. Haven't really payed attention to Washington film like that but they've been better as the season goes on? That could make some sense with a new defense getting more comfortable in it although idl is also a more direct translate-able position
Igbinoghene has been better since he's been moved to slot. He wasn't great outside, which is why Sainristil is playing outside. As for Johnny Newton, he missed all of training camp, so it is going to be a year of catch up. One player who is on the upswing and maybe will get on your stud list next time is Phidarian Mathis, who is finally starting to play like that guy we drafted him for.
Btw Mike Sainristil has been playing outside ever since week 3-- the coaches have said he will move back inside at some point but currently is their best option on the outside. Igbinoghene has been really good in the slot also fwiw... I would recommend you take another look at Percy Butler, he's been an awesome run defender and just kinda a havoc player. Sucks in coverage but routinely gets shine from the coaches because of his run D. Shows up on film.
I just looked up the stats on PFF. He has played 116 out of 347 total snaps in the slot (33.4%) and 202 out of 347 at outside corner (58.2%). The other 8 or 9% of snaps have come from safety or inside the box (mostly inside the box).
@@NoFGnoPUNT you might know at least one of the people involved already, it's a show run by Brett Kollman and EJ Snyder, and they're amazing. They really know football and they're also just great and funny people lol. They're a little different in the way they approach things in some aspects compared to TFG, just like anyone would be. Hard recommendation imo, they're great
7:55 hand to God, had no idea Noah Brown was that big. I thought he was like 5’10, 200lbs, when you said that hes a similar body type to Nico i was so lost until i googled him. No idea why i thought he was smaller
Jerzhan Newton has the opposite thing of what good players having going with his 32 PFF grades. With good players, say an O-Lineman they may have a 83 pass blocking grade and 80 run blocking grade and it adds up to a 89 overall grade because most guys who are good pass blockers 83 pass blocking grade are not as good at run blocking, so by being good at both your total PFF grade exceeds either of the two main components. Jerzhan Newton has the opposite. He has got a 32 overall grade with a 37 run defense and 45 pass rushing grade because usually players are not bad both they are average at least one.
I will say in defence of ceedee lamb i feel like almost every play they have him running hitches. It could just be me but the offence is feeling like the old jason garrett and scott linehan plays
For a somewhat netural thing I went to look at the roster grades for the Eagles and Commanders after the Thursday night game. Commanders still have a way to go from a talent perspective. The top 20 combined players from the two teams using Marcus's rankings (I am not going to include Jonathan Allen because he is out for the year and will probably be released after this season, but I am going to include Marshon Lattimore because he will be with the team for the rest of this year and is under contract for 2025 and 2026): 1. AJ Brown 95 (Phi) 2. Saquan Barkley 93 (Phi) 3. Lane Johnson 93 (Phi) 4. Terry McLaurin 89 (Wash) 5. Jordan Mailata 87 (Phi) T6. Davonte Smith 86 (Phi) T6 Marshon Lattimore 86 (Wash) 8. Dallas Goedert 85 (Phi) 9. Jalen Carter 83 (Phi) 10. Sam Cosmi 82 (Wash) T11. Landon Dickerson 81 (Phi) T11 Daron Payne 81 (Wash) T11 Darius Slay 81 (Phi) T14. Josh Sweat 80 (Phi) T14: Jayden Daniels 80 (Wash) T14 Jalen Hurts 80(Phi) 17. Brandon Graham 79 (Phi) T178. Bobby Wagner 78 (Wash) T18. Byrce Huff 78 (Phi) T20. Frankie Luvu 77 (Wash) T20. Jordan Davis 77 (Phi) T20. Quinyon Mitchell 77 (Phi) T20 Reed Blankship (Phi) T20 Cooper Dejean (Phi) T20 CJ Gardner-Johnson (Phi) So that is 25 players and 18 of them are Eagles and 7 of them are Commanders. I think the Commanders are punching over their weight. For the most part I think Marcus ratings are decent reflectors. I think there some bad rankings on both teams. Just to list them. Zach Baun is the second best LB by PFF ratings (88) and has an incredible 91 coverage grade. Marcus's studs and duds elevated him from a 69 to 73, but he should have got the Jayden Daniels treatment and got elevated like 11 points to a 80. The sample size is small enough that you don't want to elevate him to like a 90, but 73 is just a bad rating and mostly reflects that he was rated way too low to start. I feel Bobby Wagner was also rated too low to start the year, but he should be adjusted from like a 78 to 81 or 82. He has been absolutely fantastic both as a run defender (89.3 PFF run defense grade) and captain of the defense (which is value PFF doesn't capture). I feel like at this point Dallas Goedert is probably like 5 points overrated. He is still a good receiving TE, but not elite and he is not much of a blocker. I would say all the other players are probably within 2 points of what my impression (largely influenced by PFF and career reputation) would put them. I might quibble at the very bottom and say Dorrence Armstrong over CJ Gardner Johnson but it would barely change the rankings. I do think Jayden Daniels is better than Jalen Hurts (Marcus has them both at 80). Jayden is probably like a 82 in my opinion and Hurts like a 78. I listened to Logan Paulsen do a Commanders Eagles preview. He said he has never liked Kellen Moore's offenses. They are the NFL equivalent to the NBA's iso-ball which only works when you have talent. Luckily for the Eagles they do have a lot of talent (but Moore was pretty much the same in Dallas, where they had talent, but not as much as this Eagles team). He said Moore tries to scheme matchups more than tries to scheme routes open. He'll ldo thinkls like do 3 x 1 and have AJ Brown by himself on side to get a matchup or he'll use motion to try to get a favorable matchup. But the offense has a lot of Hurts identifies the best matchup presnap and then stays on his first read for a long time then either checks down and run. They have great receivers and they have a great O-Line. (Probably Mekhi Beckton is underrated by a few points as Paulsen said his run blocking is really good (particularly on gap runs) and he is fine in pass blocking for a guard though not elite). He said because its iso ball and Hurts just says on his first read for a long time then either checks down (to Barkley) or runs (which he is good at) he has one of the easiest starting QB positions in the NFL. He time to throw the ball is 3.11 seconds the highest in the NFL. I think Hurts is a capable QB, not bad, like 78 is not a bad rating, but I don't think he is good. If he was really good, the Eagles would be as good as the Lions. Likewise on defense, Paulsen wasn't impressed by the Eagles playcaller, Vic Fangio. Says he disguises his coverages really well, but its all off coverage so there will always be yards underneath despite how good he is at disguising coverage so there is a chance to have first and second down success even if it will be tough on third down. Says he plays with lighter boxes so opportunity to run. Said like Moore's offense the scheme works well enough if you have good talent, but probably not great for a talent depleted roster.
From a Commanders standpoint I think one guy who probably deserved to go up a point or two is Bobby Wagner. He came in with a 78 rating and has been the best player on the defense. He has a 83.3 PFF grade and is playing every down. He probably should have been a couple points higher to start the year as he had a 82 PFF grade last year. But due to our weak corners we have played a lot of two high shells and while we have struggled to defend the run because we are playing with light boxes, it hasn't been a total game killer largely because of how good Wagner has been (89.3 run defense grade). He is not near as good in coverage, but he is not useless either with a 62.8 grade. Not reflected in his PFF grade is that he is a great team captain on defense and getting us into the right alignments to match the defense. I think he is still probably a top 10 LB and 78 is a bit low. I think Marshon Lattimore may really help the run game because he may allow us to play with heavier boxes and we may actually have a good run defense once he starts playing. Luvu is not as consistent but makes more impact plays than Wagner. He has been good as well, but its just not near as consistent. He'll have great weeks, then meh weeks.
I feel bad for Bryce Huff considering the fact he's probably watching this video and feeling all sorts of shame hearing you talk about him like this especially since he's a fan lf yours.
Hey Marcus, appreciate the commanders love, but why in your opinion shouldn't Luvu and Wagner rise in ratings? Were they already high ahead of time or am I missing something? Thanks for the content, I've been a big fan since your 2019 draft coverage!! Keep it up man!!
And saying that about Wandale lmao. He is a slot receiver and a good one although limited in length and long speed yeah. Short and intermediate is his bread and butter but that reception to yardage ratio is just welcome to the Daniel Jones experience buddy
Dotson after his rookie year has struggled with getting separation, and he quickly got behind the 8 ball with the new regime, which is why he was traded. It was hoped a change of scenery would help him, but it hasn't.
I thought Dotson was good at the top of his route and was good in getting separation against any off man coverage. But he couldn't separate against tight man coverage as well because he lacked physicality and he lacked the want to when blocking. I think it probably was the lack of "want to" on blocking that got him traded more than anything else. The new regime values WR's that block. Not all of the WR's are great blockers. For example, Terry McLaurin is just serviceable at it. OZ is physical for his size, but he is 5'8. But they will all give the effort and that helps the run and screen game.
Brandon Coleman at a 65ovr after playing well as a rookie at LT is wild. I could maybe see it pre season, but he deserves at least a 70 now, probably more so a 72. And I’m not a Commies fan
@@ThatFranchiseGuy He's played roughly 40% of the Commanders snaps. They literally rotate their LT's every other drive, and that's only cuz they've been working him back from being injured in the offseason. He's not perfect, but he's been better than a 65. They'll probably keep going with the rotation tho cuz it's been working so well despite how unorthodox it is. I think it's fast-tracking Coleman's development getting rotate in and out with a veteran like Lucas, who admittedly has been more consistent in pass pro.
youre clearly a new viewer of his and have no clue how he works, he is slower to react than everyone else as he needs a larger sample size to truly raise a player…. Hurts has been doing it for some years now, JD for like 4 weeks and he has said multiple times that JD has been playing like a top 10 QB, but he needs to do it over a course of a year to truly determine if its just a flash or truly what he is ( another reason as why Stroud isnt that high YET )
not new. it doesn't change him making videos shitting on Jalen hurts and then making JD5 the same rating not weird take. he is slow to adjust but his take originally back to the draft was bad so feel like he could've adjust quicker for that
Daniel Jones didn't have a solid 2022. They tailored the entire offense around what he is able to do, and he was still bottom half. They treated him how a rookie would be treated. Calling the offense around what he can do. The difference is that eventually coaches will start to open up the offense as a rookie gets acclimated, and a good QB will start to excel. You saw last year what happened when the Giants tried that. 2022 was pretty much a coaching miracle, and Jones was still mediocre at best.
The Dexter Lawrence disrespect continues. A *NOSE TACKLE* is currently leading the league in sacks, and is having a DPOY run, and can't get even mentioned? I'm mostly joking, love the content, but really didn't you have him at a 96? Move him to 97 at least. Just so you can talk about him and the dominance.
The fact that Kliff Kingsbury made Marcus Mariota a good quarterback is amazing. Kingsbury should be a head coach next year Edit: Forgot to mention that Mariota was decent in Tennessee until Mike Vrabel ruined him
That was nice to see, but I feel like that's a little overboard after 1 game from Mariota against a horrible Panthers D. Plus I also feel like it'll take another couple years for him to get another chance after how things went in Arizona.
Was mariota even THAT bad in Atlanta, he was a top 3 pick for a reason and is now a veteran journey man so seeing him play well isn't that shocking especially in a short stint
You could convince me I died and went to heaven based on the way you talked about Washington in this video

hearing you talk about jalen hurts then hearing you talk about jayden daniels and then seeing the same rating for both is wild. lol
youre clearly a new viewer of his and have no clue how he works, he is slower to react than everyone else as he needs a larger sample size to truly raise a player…. Hurts has been doing it for some years now, JD for like 4 weeks and he has said multiple times that JD has been playing like a top 10 QB, but he needs to do it over a course of a year to truly determine if its just a flash or truly what he is ( another reason as why Stroud isnt that high YET )
not new. it doesn't change him making videos shitting on Jalen hurts and then making JD5 the same rating not weird take. he is slow to adjust but his take originally back to the draft was bad so feel like he could've adjust quicker for that
Don’t understand dropping Steele! Feel like he’s returned to form in the run game
Didn't touch his run blocking
I'm shocked that the commies are this good already. I really thought they were gonna be a bottom 5 team
Time for my eagles to get roasted 😂
The Dexter Lawrence disrespect continues. A *NOSE TACKLE* is currently leading the league in sacks, and is having a DPOY run, and can't get even mentioned?
I'm mostly joking, love the content, but really didn't you have him at a 96? Move him to 97 at least. Just so you can talk about him and the dominance.
I feel I've given Dexy the credit he deserves on this channel.
Begging for validation lol
bro what are you on everytime he talks about him its nothing but praise
I'm a diehard eagles fan and I agree with you about everything you said about Jalen hurts.
The fact that Kliff Kingsbury made Marcus Mariota a good quarterback is amazing. Kingsbury should be a head coach next year
Edit: Forgot to mention that Mariota was decent in Tennessee until Mike Vrabel ruined him
Some people are amazing coordinators, but bad head coaches. Kliff falls in that category.
@@itsgeorgiejoe I’m willing to give Kingsbury a second chance I think he’s adapted well
That was nice to see, but I feel like that's a little overboard after 1 game from Mariota against a horrible Panthers D. Plus I also feel like it'll take another couple years for him to get another chance after how things went in Arizona.
No
Was mariota even THAT bad in Atlanta, he was a top 3 pick for a reason and is now a veteran journey man so seeing him play well isn't that shocking especially in a short stint
In the future to make this easier you might wanna just pick 5 focus players per team.
Giants fan they have better coach and better young players
Zeke is no where near as good as Dowdle.
ur jalen hurts hate is insane 0 turnovers since his guys came back do better you give excuses to ur favorites tho.....
If Daniel Jones didn’t exist, Hurts would be by far the worst starting QB in the Nfc East
If I ever got a bag I’d send this man 100k just for supporting my childhood😭🫶🏻
