@@ScotlandHistoryToursYou have me hooked, Laddie! It's only been two hours since this came out. There will be more wanting to hear this. That and I'm going to look for the book!
Lets hear the rest This story hits home my 6th Great Grandfather Was snatched off families lands . Next to the river Tweed on border with England. He was taken by the English and put a ship to Virginia in the colonies at the time. Sold into servitude he was 14 .it took 3 generations for my family to be free from servitude
@homie3461 Because indentured servants weren't considered property like slaves. So while a plantation owner would give his slaves the things they need to survive. The indentured servants were charged for these items. Food clothing shelter were all charged for by adding time to the servitude. Getting married and having children also added time if the wife was also a servant then the children were born into servitude and simple by being born they were indentured servants and would owe decades. By the time they were old enough to work in the tobacco fields
@homie3461 No my ancestors were taken prisoner by the English they were put on a prisoner ship and sent to the colonies and sold exactly the same as African slaves were. The only difference is the law didn't allow Christians to be considered property. So while a plantation owner would take care of his property ( African slaves) the Scottish people who were forced to be servants were not treated the same. The price of a African slave was often 3 or 4 times more than what was paid for the jacobite prisoners of war . My ancestors had their own lands in Scotland with a family abbey on the river Tweed border between Scotland and England. The killed most of my ancestors took the rest prisoner and sold them to rich plantation owners here in colonies. There never was contract They were only labeled indentured because they Christians and couldn't be called what they were slaves
Being Amerin of Scottish ancestors, my paternal side landing in PA, this is very interesting..🤔 I'd love to hear the rest of the story, and the title of his book, please.
What?! The Natives captured slaves in raids? Children were kidnapped from the streets of Scotland and sold into servitude in the Americas? The French deported people from Canada? You’re blowing my American mind once again there Bruce! Love it. Absolutely love it. More about the life of “Indian Pete” please!
Basically every single society and tribe in history has captured slaves from war or raids from that mindset it would be stupid not too because it's free labor in their minds I do agree this story is fascinating
If a thousand people told you that they didn't want to hear more stories from you, would that stop you? You are a storyteller so just keep doing what you do. I look forward to hearing more from you.
@@haraldtheyounger5504not many people know that one. It would appear it's been buried, along with the fact Indian Peter was actually a local Aberdeen boy which was one of the reasons his story was so popular
Bruce! I'd love to hear what happened to Indian Peter. You have such a talent for telling intriguing stories about old Scotland. Don't leave us hanging too long!
That was brilliant I love hearing about the lesser well known people of Scotland but those times were horrific the things it's still happening across the world
I would absolutely love to hear more about this story...I honestly couldn't begin to imagine what Peter's parents felt never knowing what happened to their son..it's heartbreaking 💔...god bless 🙏 🙏
Yes we definitely want to know more about this incredible story. You never fail to Wow us, Bruce! I grew up in Pennsylvania, the descendant of a long line of Scots and Scots Irish both. There’s an interesting Fort in Pennsylvania named after my maternal grandmother’s family “Fort MCCord” in which the inhabitants, save a few, were massacred or taken hostage by Indians during The French Indian Wars and at the site of the ruins and cemetery stands a memorial monument with the Scottish Thistle on it. Been there a few times, interesting history, dark times. Cape May is one of my old haunts too...when I’m not traveling back to Scotland!
Seeing you next to various locations in Aberdeen, gives me fond memories of living there in the early 80s - Prince of Wales Pub I went to several 100 times : )
Another incredible forgotten Scot I'd like to see a video on would be Michael Scott (1175-1232) the mathematician/astronomer/linguist/wizard and only Scot featured in Dantes Inferno.
I am in the hospital getting a treatment so I have the sound off and reading the captions. I miss your lovely voice but reading made me realize how well written your talks are. I loved this and am amazed at the continuing expanse of your knowledge and story sources! Thank you!
Hey bruce! Im in. Lovin it! Why arent we more supportive of scotland. Those who fought and won wars, fought for independence, and fought their way into the world. Your a great people Scotland. Gotta get there. Cheers Bruce! Craig
I would love to hear more about Indian Peter. I enjoy all your stories so far, but unfortunately, my family lost their Scottish accent & can't understand your last statement, which you say on all your videos, I was hoping you would enlighten me.
